Bret Confirms WWE’s Owen Hart DVD & Blu-Ray Documentary, WDN Wants You!

June 3, 2015 by Daniel Bee

WWE Owen Hart Sharpshooter - WrestleMania 10

The news of an Owen Hart WWE DVD broke last month, along with the revelation that the documentary will be produced without any support from Martha Hart, widow of Owen.

Bret Hart was a guest on the latest episode of “The Ross Report”, Jim Ross’ podcast, and among discussion of other topics Bret confirmed the WWE DVD being in the works.

Both he and JR shared that WWE has not yet interviewed either of them for the documentary, however Bret suggested that other family members were about to be interviewed.

It was reiterated again that Martha Hart and her children are in no way attached to the project and are not happy about it, while most others in the family are supportive. Bret believes Martha to be on the “wrong track” with her approach to the situation and has the opinion that she wishes to “erase everything he did in wrestling” in a “childish” and “selfish” manner.

Responding to Martha’s recent public statement to WrestlingDVDNews.com, in which she implored WWE to “just let [Owen] rest in peace”, Bret said that there’s a lot of people that miss him and would love to remember him fondly with a DVD and the stories it could tell.

“I think it’s important to remember what Owen accomplished in wrestling and I disagree with her position about Owen. There are so many happy memories tied in with Owen and I wish his kids could hear the stories”, he stated on the podcast.

As of last word, “Owen Hart – Hart of Gold” is the planned name for the DVD/Blu-ray.

The Home Video is tentatively scheduled for release by the company in November. Keep on voting in our poll below on whether or not you think WWE should go ahead with it.

I am hoping they would add the match when Owen won the title and gets to hold it for a few seconds

Some people tend to live in a -reality-tv- bubble universe, where they think that debating is when you call others whiners, just because they have another opinion, and actually can debate with arguments.

Damn you to hell, Jerry Springer, Rickie Fake, MTV’s Real World and lately Total Divas. 😉

  3. Sidxx says:

Bret Hart is absolutely 100% spot on!!!

I’ll wait for LP1 and Roly’s whinging responses haha.

  4. RabidHeat says:

I don’t really buy into this idea that the widow of somebody who has passed on is automatically right in everything that they say or do in relation to what happens after their husband has passed away. I understand her grief and she’s entitled to her opinion more than anybody, God knows that’s true, but she’s not the only relative Owen Hart left behind, he still has brothers, nephews, nieces, cousins, etc. My point is, do we know for 100% that Owen would even agree with Martha on this if he could speak now? Just perhaps he might say to Martha: “But I want my wrestling career to be celebrated, despite everything”.

I’m not spouting some lame “do it for us fans” thing, because that would be selfish and it’s got nothing to do with us as far as I’m concerned. But if Vince McMahon is legally allowed to release this footage, and he can take splice in the fact that relatives such as Bret would love to see it done, then I think he can have a clear conscience.

It shouldn’t be about: “Well, she was his wife, so she MUST be right”. If she died in tragic circumstances tomorrow, would she want her children to wipe out any memory of her life’s work? I dunno, that’s my two cents. I’m not trying to offend, I’m just saying she doesn’t speak for everybody, I’m sure Owen was proud of being from the Hart wrestling family and to work for the WWF, and I highly doubt that Owen himself would want his life’s work to go unhonoured. No, I didn’t know him, but it’s just a hunch based on everything we have read about the guy over the years and what a character he was.

take solice * I meant to say

    • attitude.era.4life says:

Owen’s life’s work is not wiped out..it exists on the physical media collections that wwe released and keeps releasing, latest example is a match against the Warrior on Always Believe..

and it exists on the Network.. a career perspective release will be great for sure..but, to take the opinion that, if this release does not come true, means that Owen’s life’s work is not existing, that is just plain rubbish.

The matches and promos are what’s make a performer’s legacy visible..a career perspective release is just one of several “tools” to show that legacy.

      • RabidHeat says:

I don’t understand the point, as nowhere did I say that the release of a DVD was the only way to honour his legacy – kind of putting words in my mouth there, aren’t you? I don’t think people who want to check out his legacy should be relegated only to the network and past releases – that would be getting into Benoit territory, so while not the ONLY way to honour him, a DVD release solely dedicated to Owen would be more appropriate.

        • attitude.era.4life says:

“If she died in tragic circumstances tomorrow, would she want her children to wipe out any memory of her life’s work?” – the memory of Owen’s career is hard to be wiped out, since it already exists in before mentioned medias.

Now, if Owen’s widow has decided to somehow deny her children to get to know their fathers work, that is a total different story…and a private one, that certaintly I am not entitled to have an opinion on, how a parent raise his/hers children…unless any physical or mentally harm can be detected.

“and I highly doubt that Owen himself would want his life’s work to go unhonoured..” – well.. it isn’t really unhonoured, since like I wrote earlier, the matches and promos exist for all to check out.

I based my comment on these quotes from you, and if I have misunderstood, then so be it.

When I read it, it just sounds like the only way to honour Owen’s career is to release this, and I just don’t think that is true.

  5. J says:

Well said Bret. It’s good too hear you have full support of Owen getting a DVD.

  6. INDYFAN says:

    yes yes yes…

  7. no one says:

If they haven’t done the interviews yet and its due this year then that’s not a good sign. I really hope that this is not being rushed for the holidays. Put it out early 2016 if that’s the case. Especially if he’s going in the HOF. This is a once in a lifetime thing.

    • Vintage Simon says:

I don’t know the specifics of the Bret Hart episode in question, but I do know that Jim Ross often tapes his podcast interviews up to two months prior to their airdate, in some instances. His recent podcast with Shawn Michaels that aired in April was recorded in February, so it’s possible the same occurred here too.

      • Daniel Bee says:

Bret/JR are clearly referencing the news that broke (here) just last month, and also Bret mentions Martha’s response a day later that she has and wants nothing to do with the DVD, so it must be a recently recorded podcast.

For one, JR says he read about the news of the DVD online.
