Sunday Tidbits: Bret Hart DVD Prices, WWE PPVs on Blu-Ray, Digital News

March 3, 2013 by Daniel Bee

The Extreme Rules 2013 DVD will be released on June 18th. We currently have no information yet to indicate that the event will also be produced on Blu-ray format in the US. Below is the official synopsis:

It’s time to toss the rulebook out the window once again as WWE goes extreme! With the after-effects of WrestleMania still lingering, stipulations are added to each contest for guaranteed chaos in – and sometimes out of – the ring. Last year’s event saw the return of the merciless Brock Lesnar, who battled John Cena in one of the fiercest contests in WWE history. Who knows what will happen this year, when the Superstars of Raw and SmackDown collide on the one night where the only rules are extreme rules.

Including Extreme Rules, you can check out the full list of confirmed WWE DVD and Blu-ray release dates from March to June at WWE DVD Blu-ray Release Dates.

As you’ve heard, Elimination Chamber 2013 will be on Blu-ray as a Best Buy exclusive. We can confirm that it will be exclusive to that store for a 3 month period until it is released widely on June 18th, the same date as the Extreme Rules release.

Amazon recently dropped the price of the SummerSlam 2012 Blu-ray over here.

All 4 WrestleMania Anthology volumes are now priced less than $20 each! Check here.

Readers are sending word that the new Bret Hart “Dungeon Collection” DVD (released this Tuesday) is now being found at K-Mart stores, priced at $19.95. Some have been successful buying it early before the street date, while others have been turned away.

If you’re buying the Bret Hart DVD online then Amazon is worth a look ($19.59 at this link).

If you’re buying the Blu-ray online then eBay is worth a look. You can get it for $28.16 shipped at this link and it’s priced similar on BestBuy.com.

Robert Joncas sent word that he recently imported some of the re-issued Attitude Collection (e.g. Undertaker: The Phenom with WWE logo on the cover) from the UK to the US. He notes that all appear to be region free, and if that’s the case it’s a good way to save some money if you can’t find or afford the originals.

Speaking of those Attitude Collection re-issues, we’ve heard they have recently found on sale in UK Poundland stores for the bargain price of £1 each! Thomas Goodearl let us know that HMV’s Blue Cross sale, which includes 30% off WWE DVD titles, ends tomorrow.

We had word from WWEShop that our “DVDWWE5” promo code continues to be active through March. That gets you $5 off any purchases of $30+ on their site and remains the best way of getting money off lower priced orders! Use the code.

Until tomorrow, code “WWEAFFTAKE20” gives 20% off Clearance Items. No min. spend!

Roger Palmer’s rundown of digital/download news out of February:

– The biggest WWE release of the month was The Best of RAW and Smackdown 2012 on most digital platforms such as Vudu and Amazon. This set is released digitally across 3 volumes.

– Royal Rumble 2013 was also released, featuring the Rock vs CM Punk and the Royal Rumble match. As per the norm with these digital releases, each match is available for just a couple of dollars each.

WWE Bret Hart Dungeon Collection– WWEGreatestMatches.com posted some new full videos this past month including the CM Punk vs John Cena match from RAW, as well as some Elimination Chamber matches from 2012, 2011 and 2010.

– The WWE Studios “The Marine 3: Homefront” movie starring The Miz will be released on March 5th through the usual digital platforms.

– Also set for release on March 5th is Bret Hart: The Dungeon Collection which will see each match available as single separate downloads, following the same format used for the recent Undertaker: The Streak and nWo: The Revolution releases.

We noticed an original WWF WrestleMania 17 DVD sold on eBay over the weekend (here) for $54 which is quite a reasonable price for anybody hunting it. Below are a few more upcoming auctions to keep an eye on, thanks to Mike Bonavoglia.

What is with the ridiculous edit in the middle of the Bret v Owen match… I just checked the original airing on youtube and I can’t, for the life of me, make sense of that edit job. Any thoughts/ explanations?

  2. Marty McFly says:

I got the new Bret Hart blu ray at Best Buy for $31 (after taxes).

I wish I got it at Wal Mart because it was 4 dollas cheaper AND included a digital copy ~! Yes Wal Mart has a Vudu digital copy code included with their WWE blu rays. I’m taking note of this and will be purchasing all WWE blu rays through WalMart.

Kind of bummed out I paid more & didnt get the Vudu digital copy, but the set is amazing and I love the set.

  3. Ryan says:

i went to best buy today and got the new bret hart bluray. they match prices so i showed them on my phone that its $22.99 at target and saved 5$ cause its reg $27.99

    • David says:

I had the same luck. Note that for whatever reason Target has the Blu Ray listed as a DVD. I had to explain that was a mistake, thta it was the Blu Ray (noting the there was more content on fewer disks) and further that Best Buy also listed the Blu Ray as a “DVD” on their site.

  4. THOMAS says:

Breaking The Code : Behind The Walls Of Chris Jericho was the last official WWE DVD in HMV store in Ballymena Northern Ireland, also was on sale as well

  5. Simon says:

Must have been a very luck son of a gun.. I got my WMania 17 on amazon.ca Like new condition for 20$ + shipping = 23,49$!!! ahahah If you want some great deal, you must check like 10 times a day lol

  6. Geolink says:

HURRAY FOR ANOTHER WWE PPV BLU-RAY RELEASE! Hopefully this year all the PPVs will be on Blu-ray from here on out.

  7. Shaun Blackford says:

mania 17 is really going up these days. in the last 3 years ive seen it jump in price

  8. Alex says:

Best of Raw and Smackdown is definitely not on iTunes.

  9. Rip Savage says:

You mean to tell me that theirs no photo of Brett Hart anywhere? It would have been a lot nicer than the artwork?

  10. David says:

A few notes about some of the Blu Rays listed above.

Summerslam 2012 Blu Ray can be found at familyvideo.com for 8.99. Note that it was a bit cheaper earlier this week so that price could drop again:

    http://www.familyvideo.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=404613

THere are other Blu Rays (e.g. CM Punk’s Blu Ray) on that site that are a bit cheaper than I have found other places.

Additionally, Target is offering the Bret Hart Blu Ray for 22.99.

    http://www.target.com/p/wwe-bret-hit-man-hart-dungeon-collection-2-discs/-/A-14410166#prodSlot=medium_1_1&term=dungeon+collection

Note that this can be price matched with Best Buy. They have made their rules stricter, but per their latest rules which just changed today, you should be able to price match this Blu Ray.

I hope I didn’t break any rules by providing this information. If so, my apologies.

  11. wrestlingfan says:

any word on an amazon.com price drop on the new bret hart blu ray still 33 bucks as of now

  12. Thomas says:

thank goodness I bought the tagged classics of SummerSlam 1988 & SummerSlam 1989 out of HMV lol {not the Chris Jericho Break down the walls dvd} for a good decent price

  13. rvd420 says:

    Thinks this site blows

  14. Thomas Goodearl says:

I need to get to Poundland! lol

  15. David says:

For the Attitude collection DVDs, even if they’re region free wouldn’t they still be PAL format? If thats the case you still need a region free dvd/blu-ray player.

I remember i had an issue with the TNA Twin Pack – Final Resolution 2011 and Turning Point 2011. I imported that from Amazon UK, and it was region free but in PAL format so it wouldn’t play on my region A PS3, but played fine on my region free blu-ray player, but it had the PAL lag effect.

Also i imported the Kofi Kingston DVD (UK magazine exclusive) and it was region free but in PAL.

There are very few NTSC TVs that accept PAL signal, so you would have to have the player itself do the converting.

    • Daniel Bee says:

Yeah, they will be PAL. So, as you say, it would depend on the equipment you have available if you can play them. Whomever sent that info in the DVDs must have worked for them.

In the case of the PS3, it’s very clear cut – PAL or NTSC. For example I have a PS3 from Japan (Region 2 NTSC) and that’s exactly the only DVDs it will play. If I put in a Region 2 PAL disc it won’t work. Here in the UK as I understand it for our TVs and DVD players it’s very common to have PAL/NTSC conversion but that’s not always the case in the US. That’s what I’ve always heard anyways.

    • Larry says:

      Daniel

Do you think with this price drop on the Wrestlemania Anthology that either a new unblurred DVD or blu ray set is forthcoming? Thanks Daniel

      • Daniel Bee says:

I think it’s probably in part due to the new re-releases supposedly coming this month. It’s also “WrestleMania season” so a good time to move some units! I’ve long guessed there may be a Blu-ray Anthology made at a fitting time (like after WrestleMania 30) so might not be too far away.

        • Whatever Trevor says:

That is what you think! WWE will never release any anthology’s again.

          • Daniel Bee says:

Thanks for that insight. Straight from WWE offices I assume.

            • pmdmf says:

Trevor might be on to something. I would love to see a Wrestlemania anthology on blu ray, but they never completed the Survivor Series anthology. I can only hope they do both someday.

              • Daniel Bee says:

The Trevor guy is someone I had to ban and he came back to disagree with me whatever I said, but yeah it remains to be seen if WWE make another Anthology.

                • Mark D says:

I think an issue with the Survivor Series is they they (WWE) don’t really like it. How many times has it been off the schedules and going to rebranded etc. I recall Vince himself saying the Survivor Series was an “antiquated concept”. WrestleMania however is their baby and I could absolutely see another anthology for it (how many VHS/DVD anthologies/re-releases have we seen already; 4?).

                  • pmdmf says:

I figured that Survivor Series was less popular than Wrestlemania, but I didn’t think it was that far down the list. To me, it’s a shame they feel that way about one of their four big pay per views.
