Changes to the 2013 WWE DVD Schedule – Triple H, War Games, Mid South

February 1, 2013 by Mark D

Triple H 2013 WWE DVD Documentary

Today we can confirm that WWE have decided to mix up their 2013 DVD Schedule since being announced last year. Some of the DVD titles have been moved around, and one has been dropped completely in favour of a brand new release!

We also have clarification on some of the types of release which are currently planned for the rest of the year.

Firstly, the biggest change is that the Top 20 Divas Countdown has now been dropped and a brand new addition has been made titled “Midsouth”, which we can only presume will be a DVD set focusing on the History of Mid-South Wrestling/UWF, and all being well this will be released on September 10th.

The Goldberg set, which was originally planned for release in June, has now been delayed until October 8th, and we can also confirm that this will be a compilation of matches, rather than a documentary; as hoped by some.

Other tweaks made to the schedule include The Best of War Games being moved forward to June 25th (Dusty Rhodes confirmed last month he was working on a new WWE DVD project, which is very likely to be this War Games release), the Triple H Biography has also been brought forward by two weeks and is now scheduled for September 24; which is Stephanie McMahon’s birthday – I wonder what she will be getting this year 😉.

yes i m sad to see the top 20 divas get replaced by something that no one knows about. they could at least release the dvd next year or something. they could have just changed the date of when it was going to be release instead of replacing it. that is what they should have done

  2. mark foster says:

I cant understand why no andre the giant dvd set.I can name a lot of great matches.King kong bundy, jhon studd, black jack mulligan, ernie ladd, kamala, jerry blackwell, bam bam bigalow, utimate warrior, and yes the early hulk hogan matches.Andre was a fan favorite all over the world, lets give him respect and his fans a dvd set

  3. Josh MD Jordan says:

The TBD PPV has been noted to be called WWE Payback… Just FYI

  4. Rich Ralbovsky says:

When will an Evolution box set become available??? They only teased a little by putting some of the good moments on the Best of Raw 100. I would love to see some of the best Evolution matches on one DVD set…. Will it ever happen???

  5. Ashley says:

I think it’s so terrible the way the WWE treats their divas. I began watching wrestling because of Lita and Trish Stratus. After they left, nobody has been given a chance to show their abilities except maybe Eve and even she was put in a ridiculous story line. Now they are axing their DVD? That’s just so disrespectful. They might as well cut the entire division if they are going to treat them like that

    • Daniel Bee says:

Kind of agree with you. A Divas DVD could be pretty good done right. Maybe they also just think – how can we release a DVD on the division right now when the current product of Divas we have on show is poor at best. Make it special again then bring attention to the history of it with a DVD, I’d say.

  6. Anan says:

RAW 20th – I hope this covers in length all the moments, matches in full, and individuals who made this show successful. To name a few:
    .Austin
    – Bedpan Mcmahon
    – Cement In Corvette
    – Zamboni 3:16
    – Austin having Vince and the stooges arrested sis days before Over The Edge 98
    – The Stunner on Vince in MSG in 97
    – Austin and Tyson (night after Royal Rumble)

    Taker
    – Kane saving Taker from DX and “reuniting” by saluting each other
    – Taker returning to accept WM14 challenge
    – hanging Austin on his symbol six days before Rock Bottom

On the Top 25 rivalries, I expect Taker vs Mankind to be there.

On the history of WWE, I hope that there is a very in depth, lengthy documentary about the company’s history from Vince Sr’s WWWF creation and impact all the way to where we are today.
As extras, it’d be cool to see what happens backstage on WWE TV shows, live events, PPV’s.
But what I really wanna see is the stars who made WWE what it is today profiled where we get commens from various personalities about the impact these men made and how the popularized WWE. Names like Bruno Sammartino, Hulk Hogan, Austin, Taker, DX, etc.

  7. Anan says:

I fully expect the Best Of MSG to have a lot of Bruno’s matches in there considering he sold out that place a ton of times and cause he’s FINALLY going into the HOF this year.

Aside from that though, here’s what else I want:
Summerslam 98 – Outlaws vs Mankind, HHH vs Rock, Taker vs Austin

Non televised, live event – Taker/Bret vs Diesel/HBK (this is where Diesel hit all three guys after the match)

    Taker vs Bret Hart (1992)

Taker vs Snuka (I think this was Taker’s MSG debut)

  8. Marty says:

This can probably go under this article, but, as announced yesterday, Bruno Sammartino is getting inducted into the WWE Hall Of Fame. Part of the agreement made between Bruno and the WWE is that Bruno does interviews for DVD projects. I imagine we’ll see him interviewed for the Best Of MSG set and perhaps the History Of WWE set as well. As the saying goes, “Card subject to change”, and it wouldn’t shock me if they have a Bruno DVD in mind as well before the end of the year. We’ll see.

    • Mark D says:

I really hope we do see a Bruno Sammartino DVD documentary; as he has a really great story. In regard to its timing, I think WWE would be wise to strike while the iron is hot.

Finally regarding the Best of MSG – I hope that they film the wraparound segments with Howard Finkle (as the host) inside and around an empty MSG (when they are there over WrestleMania week) – that would be really cool and unique.

  9. Jonathan M says:

Yes Triple H deserves a 4 disc documentary set since he’s had a long established career in WWE. I expected people more likely to Vince and Stephanie to be interview for project. Here the people that should be interview for the DVD of Triple H.

Shawn Michaels, Ric Flair, Kevin Nash, X-pac, Mr Ass, Roaddog, John Cena, Big Show, Chris Jericho, Edge, The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Mick Foley, Mark Henry, Christian, Sheamus, Arn Anderson, Goldust, Booker T and others. I bet with all those individuals interview it should make the DVD more interesting to see.
I am more interest to purchasing the history of the WWE this fall. I expect a lot of past and present superstars appearing to be interview. People like, Vince, Steph, Triple H, Hogan(archive footage)Austin, Rock, HBK, Cena, Punk, Bret, Nash, Flair, Brock,Patterson, Brisco, Okerland, JR, Lawler, Cole, Steamboat, Ventura(Archive Footage) Luger(archive Footage) Edge, Christian, piper, Sunka, Steamboat, Dibiase and others.

    Looking forward to these DVDs.

  10. R&REXPRESS#1 says:

Totally agree with ” wrestling fan”….& canceling the divas DVD is hardly a reason for a lawsuit. The mid-south DVD will mean something & be worth buying because its REAL history….most people only want diva DVDs because they’re perverts anyways….I mean honestly, what other purpose do those sets really serve??

  11. Jake says:

Really though if wwe isn’t going to care about there divas then all the divas should quit and file a lawsuit for unfair treatment and discrimination in the workplace

  12. Daniel Almeida says:

    Looks really interesting!

  13. tony banik says:

I can’t wait for the mid south dvd release. Ted Dibiase, Dr Death Steve Williams and Good old JR are classic.

  14. RandomAssPost says:

Well, I was gonna get the divas and wm 29 but now I guess just wm. But they probably would have littered the diva DVD with Kelly Kelly, the bellas, Maria, Ashley, and other shitty divas. Little to no lita, Molly holly, ivory, sable, or chyna. I actually was a fan of divas and they were a reason I watched wwe (shocker right? Divas so have fans!) But I’m not even gonna buy wm 29, I’d only be buying for Chris Jericho’s match. The rest of the releases I have no interest in at all.

  15. Ryan says:

Very excited for the Mid-South dvd set. Besides the Top 25 rivalries and War Games this will be a must buy.

  16. wrestlingfan says:

Who honestly would want a divas dvd set… I mean a bunch of two minutes meaningless matches that no one will remember in a year. This would have meant something five years ago. The WWE has buried their divas division. Mid South dvd set is going to mean something.

  17. Tv-14 says:

I could careless about Mid South, I wanted the Divas DVD F*** wwe!!

  18. Big Jem says:

History of WWE will be incomplete if the company continues to pretend if Chris Benoit never worked for them.

    • paul Jackson says:

I heard the comment below about Benoit it’s going to be tricky because he was in the very first Money In the Bank Ladder match, And the Money In The Bank DVD. IDK

    • paul Jackson says:

The Divas DVD doesn’t concern me. After Trish & Lita maybe Jazz, Victoria, Molly Holly, who else on that DVD is any relevant. For all the so called “real wrestling” fans that are not interested in the Mid South DVD. Get ready for one extraordinary history lesson.

  19. Jamie says:

Smart move getting rid of the Divas dvd. I’d rather have a dvd on Mid South

  20. Nick says:

Glad the divas are gone, who buys those anyway? Very excited about midsouth, have very little knowledge so it will be a great history lesson for me.

Along with Bret, wargames, hhh, msg, foley, rivalries, this may be the most dvds I buy in a year from WWE.

  21. ChadWWE says:

NOOOO. Why did they have to drop the Divas DVD? Well that saved me $25-$30.

  22. James says:

I’m shocked the Mid-South set is coming out so soon. I was told by a very reliable source none of the footage they received from the ex Mrs. Watts was marked at all. So they must be working very hard to figure out what is on them. Glad it is out so soon. Very happy War Games was moved up.

    • David says:

Must be pretty difficult going through all of those if thats the case. I read when they bought the NWA/WCW tape library some were in bad condition and could not be repaired, also all tapes were unlabeled and not categorized.

  23. John Peterson says:

The Mid South DVD will be a good history lesson hopefully.Since most of us didn’t watch Mid South back in the day.I hope the DVD Sells decent enough so that the E can release more

  24. Colin.V says:

Glad they dropped the Diva one, didn’t really care about that.

  25. John says:

I am somewhat disappointed that the Divas got canned! I am looking forward to The Best of WCW Monday Nitro Volume 2, Bret “Hit Man” Hart: The Dungeon Collection, For All Mankind: The Life & Career of Mick Foley, The Best of In Your House, Top 25 Rivalries, Best of War Games, ECW Unreleased Vol. 2, Triple H, Goldberg, Money In The Bank Anthology, History of WWE, Raw 20th Anniversary Box Set, and Best WWE PPV’s!

  26. X-23 says:

I hope the Triple H DVD is four discs at least… it should be as definitive as it gets!

    • David says:

Agreed. It should get the latest Austin DVD/Blu-ray treatment with a long comprehensive documentary plus would be awesome to get some alternate commentary with him and JR for some of his matches.

  27. insanetombstone96 says:

History of WWE should be AMAZING! Cant wait!

  28. a says:

I’m really curious about the Raw 20th anniversary box set, that could be a gem, if done right.

  29. Vincenzzzzzo says:

It’s looking to be another great year for DVD releases! Looking forward to the Mid South DVD for sure. I’d really like to see a bio DVD on Jerry “The King” Lawler, Ted DiBiase or Sgt. Slaughter come out soon. There’s always next year I guess….

  30. JOBBER says:

Is Ryback hosting the Goldberg dvd? In between the matches he can stand there chanting Feed Me More. He’d still be better than Josh Matthews.

  31. NickP says:

So WWE won’t be releasing the Tyler Reks Definitive Collection this year?

  32. Rob L says:

Love this site. Always on top of everything! Great job guys.

  33. Roaster says:

Triple H’s doc has been long overdue. Hope it has good matches and extras unlike Rock’s. the Raw 20th anniversary could be interesting, unlikely to happen, but I hope it’s a box set with all the seasons they never released and there would be no blurring.

  34. ck says:

With Triple H mentioned on the title, I was worried WWE dropped his DVD release again. Thank God that wasn’t the case. 🙂

  35. Joey says:

This is going to be the best year of wwe DVDs 🙂 so excited!

  36. David says:

Glad the Divas DVD was dropped…i don’t usually collect Diva DVDs, the only ones i have are Trish Stratus, Lita and Divas Undressed, since i got those very cheap.

Was hoping the Goldberg set would have documentary…this might be the first compilation set to include over 100 matches in their entirety. Goldberg only really had a handful of matches that were good, other then that nothing really special.

Glad they’re finally releasing the long overdue HHH doc. Really looking forward to that.

Very good year for WWE DVDs/Blu-rays…the Midsouth one was a surprise, definitely picking that up.

  37. James says:

    YES!
    YES!
    YES!

  38. Glad to see the Divas set has been dropped, couldn’t see it selling well at all. (I bet one Mark D is ecstatic at the possibilities of a mid-south set too!

  39. ALK says:

Well, the schedule is now much better without the Divas set. These days, if people want eye candy, there’s the Internet. If people want women wrestlers that can wrestle, there’s Japanese Woman’s Wrestling. ;P

The others look good and interesting, expect the MITB compilation, though how the hell are they going to do the Raw 20th Anniversary set? We had the Raw Top 100 Moments set recently and the 15th Anniversary set covered a lot. Anyone else think this’ll be a “Collector’s Edition” of the Raw 15th Anniversary set, but renamed 20th Anniversary, and have extra interviews and disc containing the last 5 years of moments?

  40. ty says:

very glad they dropped the diva dvd – probably wouldnt have sold well anyways

  41. Edward Kendrick says:

Not sad at all to see the Divas one go. UWF sounds interesting. The HHH one I’ll pick up for sure.

  42. CrimeDawg says:

Hate to say it but I could care less about the Divas DVD, am majorly excited about a Mid-South DVD set.
When I saw the headline all I could think is “$%^%^ they cancelled the War Games set again.”
    Glad I was wrong.

  43. Cody Schields says:

People wanted a Goldberg documentary? That would have sucked. It would have been a collection of people ragging on him, comparable to the Self Destruction of the Ultimate Warrior DVD. Not sure I’m that interested in seeing a match compilation on him either. Will it feature over 100 matches since most his early matches went about 3 minutes tops? I’m sure it will sell well since that guy was so over inflated by WCW, but a waste of time if you ask me.

  44. Ben says:

It’s nice that Triple H’s DVD is coming out sooner than the previously mentioned date. Hope it would be a detailed biography like CM Punk’s DVD!

  45. mid south set, gotta say that took me by surprise. the year looks strong with alot of variation

  46. LP1 says:

Yet another slap in the face to the women. And they wonder why all of them are leaving the company. I remember a time when the annual Divas DVD was one of the best selling releases every year. They might as well just scrap the entire women’s division at this point. They have nobody left and they treat them as afterthoughts. Look at that total mess of a segment on Raw last Monday. Ironic that they have that segment on the same show they announce their greatest Diva going into the Hall Of Fame.

    • chrisH says:

I’m guessing those Divas DVDs actually didn’t sell that well. They’d still be doing them otherwise.

      • LP1 says:

You’re guessing wrong. The diva DVD releases from the early 2000’s were definitely some of the top selling releases every year. They won’t sell swimsuit and lingerie DVDs now because they’re a PG company. It’s as simple as that. Those DVD releases were a nice chunk of residual change for the girls who don’t get paid anywhere near the same amount of money as the guys do so those little extra perks such as DVDs and magazines and posters and stuff made a big difference in their bottom line every year. This new DVD if nothing else would’ve been a nice extra payday for whichever girls they decided to include on it.

But I digress. WWE should just get rid of the whole women’s division. They havent taken them seriously in many years and its not looking like theyre going to start now. The best thing is to stop torturing the fans with useless 1 minute matches and segments and just get rid of them.

        • chrisH says:

WWE didn’t go PG until June/July 2008. The last Diva DVD came out during the spring of 2006.

They could have released two more of the annual spring-time DVDs (in 2007 and 2008) if the PG rating was the only reason for stopping them.

          • LP1 says:

They didn’t do an on-location photo shoot for 2007. So there was no reason to release a DVD that yeat. They did release the final Divas magazine in the summer of 2007 though. By the spring of ’08 they already decided they were going PG so that was the end of the annual magazine. It was also the end of the annual Playboy issue. Which was another big payday for the girls every year. None of this even matters now cause its all irrelevant.

            • chrisH says:

“They didn’t do an on-location photo shoot for 2007. So there was no reason to release a DVD that year.”

Why would WWE not do a photo shoot unless they knew they weren’t going to be releasing the annual DVD?

“By the spring of ’08 they already decided they were going PG so that was the end of the annual magazine. It was also the end of the annual Playboy issue.”

Maria was in Playboy a mere 3 or 4 months before the change to PG, around the same time the Divas DVD would have been released and well after the photo shoot for said DVD would have taken place.

So it’s not just a PG thing. The decision to end the annual Diva DVDs was made over a year before the move to PG, and WWE had two Divas (Ashley and Maria) pose for Playboy afterwards.

  47. Steven Jackson says:

Very excited for MSG, Wargames, ECW and WCW volume 2 along with Mid-South. Mid-South has had a ton of praise so I can’t wait to learn about it in more detail. I hope it is as enlightening and enthralling as the WCCW 2 DVD set as that was brilliant. Bret Hart is already a must buy, so it is looking a good year for WWE DVD’s. Just need to watch all the ones I’ve bought first haha =)

  48. frank anguiano says:

Anyone who is not excited for the Mid South DVD has obviously never seen mid South wrestling. If its done right it will blow your mind.

  49. bill says:

Very excited for the Mid-South DVD set. Wargames too.

  50. Duane says:

Well damn, I was looking forward to the Divas countdown. Oh well, a Mid South doc will be an interesting watch as long as the Cowboy is involved.

I’m a huuuugggeee Goldberg fan but a 3 disc set of just his matches sounds pretty boring. If any set needs a doc it’s that one.

    • Mr Z says:

No offense intended Duane, but it says something when even a huge Goldberg fan thinks a compilation of his matches sounds boring. Considering how his matches usually went, a 3 disc set of Golberg has the potential to hold about 50 to 60 matches.

For a doc to be done right Goldberg would have to be interviewed about his career. Any interview I’ve seen where he talks about his career always has the same two elements, 1: He’s not really a wrestler, he’s a football player who just happened to do some wrestling. 2: It was a mistake to ever take a title off of him. With that attitude maybe straight matches is the better option.

  51. Alan says:

Quite a few great ones to be released this year. A few I’ll buy. The others I’ll just wait until they hit Netflix.

  52. Big Greg says:

I’m a little sad to see the Divas one nixed but I had a feeling it was coming so now I will get 3 out of this year’s, Nitro 2, Best of In Your House, and maybe Triple H.

  53. WWEFAN2013 says:

Most obvious WWE DVD change of the year award goes to….

That shitty Diva one. Knew this was coming.
