Yesterday we published an article on the possibility that WWE had cancelled the upcoming Attitude Era DVD (WWE Cancels Attitude Era DVD? Removed From Schedule).
In the running of WWEDVDNews.com we can have access to internal WWE Home Video schedules for the United States (Gaiam Vivendi Entertainment) and Australia (Shock Entertainment). Looking through those this week we noted that the listings for WWE: The Attitude Era [DVD/Blu-ray], previously slotted in for a November 20th release date, had been removed.
A removal from one of the two schedules could be taken as an error, but the same removal for two different regions indicated more than coincidence.
As such, we speculated that the Attitude Era title had either been cancelled outright or postponed to a later date. Whenever such a schedule change has occurred in the past that was exactly the situation, as we saw with the recent Triple H DVD and various Blu-ray versions of WWE PPV events pulled from schedules, and ultimately not released.
Since the time of our article, WWE spokesman Adam Hopkins reached out to at least one other wrestling news publication, including WrestlingInc.com, with official word that the Attitude Era DVD is still going ahead as scheduled on November 20th, 2012.
This follow up article today serves two purposes. Firstly, to pass along the official word from WWE that the Attitude Era DVD is still on for November. Secondly, to communicate that our original report was not false. It is factual that the Attitude Era listings have been removed from two official, internal schedules and as of writing this has not changed. We would also like to point out that our report stated that we “cannot confirm an outright cancellation at this stage”.
We suggest there is a reason behind the abrupt schedule removals but would not like to speculate further as to what that could be. This week BestBuy.com sent out cancellation emails to those who have pre-ordered the Attitude Era set, and have since removed all product listings for the DVD, Blu-ray, and store exclusive versions from their website.
Best buy does not show the exclusive version previously offered –is the exclusive still to be offered of the Attitude Era? Also is it a dvd only, or Blu-Ray exclusive as well?
The exclusive was a DVD version as usual. Status on that unknown but perhaps it’ll just take a bit longer to get added back since it was slower to be removed earlier this week. A week or two should hopefully clear up all this mess.
Has been Added Back to Best Buy.com for American Fans, This should give a clear indication they had to remove it for a reason for that time frame and that everything is ok they are going to release it come November 20th, This is the first dvd i believe that is going to have a match listing released late as wwe dvd listings are usually released to the public 2 months in advance!!
And usually released by Silver Vision UK, who won’t be releasing the content for this one as of last word. They are not receiving the master for it because they are not releasing the DVD.
Perhaps WWE themselves will reveal details of this one given how major a release it is, and the tie-in with WWE ’13.
Daniel, I’m not sure if you’ll be able to answer this, but with Silver Vision no longer releasing the DVDs do you think there is a chance that we will miss out on some DVDs in the UK if they don’t sort distribution arrangements in time? I think that happened with some TNA DVDs a while back but I’m not sure. I’d like to think that a new distributor or WWE themselves would start exactly where Silver Vision left off. It wouldn’t be good business not to release the Attitude DVD in the UK at all, so my hope is that they will sell it to us. I know Silver Vision don’t even know what the new plan is. I know you’d tell us if you had any info on it, but otherwise what’s your take on that matey? I’d expect the DVDs to hit the UK one way or another. It will be very disappointing if they don’t with such a great upocoming DVD schedule.
Hey Harry. Well, I wouldn’t be surprised if the UK missed a few releases (or had them delayed) during a changeover, but as far as I’m aware the European DVD market is big business for WWE so things will probably get sorted out quickly. Just my prediction – like you said, I don’t have info and it seems only WWE know at this point.
I can’t really envision a situation like TNA had where releases were totally missed, especially with the likes of the Attitude Era set one of the next on the schedule. The Silver Vision situation hit us all quick but WWE will have had a long period of time planning it all out, I’m sure.
Thanks Daniel. I was just interested in your opinion to be honest. I could handle a delay but missing out on some of those titles altogether would be bad news. I feel lucky though because the nWo dvd was the one I wanted to get my hands on the most.
My prediction is also that they will have it sorted because WWE is usually pretty well organised with that kind of thing. Because it seems it was WWE’s decision to part ways with Silver Vision that suggests they would have a plan as you said. Otherwise they probably wouldn’t have made that call. I’m guessing but that would make sense. I’m also not sure if its a coincidence that they have parted ways now that Silver Vision has all but exhausted the tagged classics range. I guess they don’t really need them anymore (a bit like The Honky Tonk Man). I’d still consider it a massive shame because of the quality of service I felt Silver Vision has given over the years.
Anyway. thanks for the response. Have a nice day!
Certainly must have something up their sleeves.
Anytime. 🙂
Yea, wouldn’t be surprised if the content is released through WWE, since you mentioned the Attitude era is the main feature and selling point for WWE ’13.
So we could expect the content and cover out probably by mid-October to coincide with hype of the game.
Also would be pretty cool if the Attitude era DVD has a code for some DLC for WWE ’13. Probably a long shot though.
I honestly don’t see how a politician could say anything about a TV-14 Attitude Era DVD release, because youngsters wouldn’t legally be allowed to buy it anyway. WWE would have clearly stated on the packaging that it was not suitable for children or family viewing. They’ve therefore done everything they need to. Are the politicians going to complain about a WWE Studios movie with bad language in too? Secondly, if WWE can release other TV-14 releases (i.e. CM Punk), why not this one? The Rock’s DVD had vulgarity in it too. Why aren’t the politicians jumping all over the other releases? There have been violent matches on the ECW and Greatest Cage Matches sets.
Because, contrary to what some of the fear-mongerers of this site will have you believe, there will probably never be a backlash surrounding the use of old footage. Even in the off chance that the Democrats try to raise some stink about it, it won’t get far. Why? WWE owns the footage and there isn’t a media company in the world that would run with a story based on them knocking WWE for using any of their footage. Those who believe there’ll be any backlash are living in some fairy tale world.
Well it’s either canceled or not just have to wait and see before I do buy it which I doubt I will I l liked to see what one it first and I am sure I am not the only one who will wait and see .

This works.
There is an Andre the Giant DVD box set out in Japan.
And Chris Benoit has aired repeatedly in the last 5 years in Japan also! Yes, you read that right! Japan, a country well-known for being very serious and respectful while taking no non-sense, has continually aired Chris Benoit since the incidents and there’s been no media coverage or discussion whatsoever.
Tell you what, I’ll buy 5 Andre 3-DVD sets and keep them all sealed shut if WWE reinstates Benoit footage. Deal?
Who cares if Benoit footage is shown in Japan?!
Japanese Wresting hasn’t been relevant since the 90s. WWE is a worldwide wrestling company known all over…big difference.
You could very easily argue that wrestling as a whole hasn’t been relevant since the late 90s/2001, so I’m not sure what your point is.
Regardless, Japan, a more respectful, no non-sense country has no problem with continuously airing Benoit when he wasn’t even as important to their product as he was to much of the North American promotions that are so heavily storyline driven. That speaks volumes. Of course, they also didn’t have a company leader say that Benoit will never be seen or spoken of again.
Oddly enough, a few years later he changed his stance and said it’s not right to erase Benoit from history and he should be included in all anthologies and complete shows. As soon as the company follows through on that directive, I’ll be happy.
Well, Benoit was included in the Elimination Chamber Anthology, also the Summerslam Anthology wasn’t delayed and still released with Benoit.
Also the Nitro DVD from last year has the complete 4-Horsemen reformation with Benoit introduction.
So WWE have been including Benoit in DVDs when if necessary the last couple years…they don’t have to include his matches if they don’t want to…like the Jericho DVD for example.
Benoit also has a quarter of a page on the WWE Encyclopedia that came out in 2009 and has his World Title history on WWE.com.
That, and reinstating his footage in complete showings on Classics on Demand, is all that WWE should be doing with Benoit footage. That’s an appropriate use of Benoit footage. It’s also a very good example of how there won’t be ANY backlash if they continue with this type of appropriate usage of Benoit footage. They should never include his matches when it’s not a complete show or something like a Lesnar DVD extra. However, until Benoit matches return to Classics on Demand and continue appearing on DVD complete shows, the debate will rage on.
I think that they should get rid of the Attitude Era DVD altogether and replace it with…an Andre The Giant 3 disc set with an hour long biography.
A better idea than the Andre set would be to throw paint against the wall and watch it dry. It may be cheaper and it’ll certainly be about as entertaining.
I’d love an Andre The Giant set. It should have been done by now.
So let me guess, either you guys are northerners/Europeans over 40 and looking back on Andre with rose-colored glasses, or you guys are under 20 and have never seen an Andre match other than WrestleMania 3, right? I say that because I’ve seen my fair share of Andre and couldn’t see why anyone would want to buy a 3 disc set of his.
To be fair, Andre was a truly great legend, but a 3-disc set exposes just how limited he was. The one-disc they already released coupled with the A&E bio are more than enough to understand his legend and still appreciate it.
I love Andre as much as anyone else….but no. Attitude all the way!
I’m not comparing the two. Andre was a massive part of wrestling history so he should have a DVD. If you can do one for Dusty Rhodes you can do one for Andre. I’m not in my 40’s, I’m in my 20s. When I first watched wrestling Andre was at the end of his career but I loved him. When the attitude era came along I was a teenager, which is definitely who that was aimed at. Both great times in wrestling and there is no point in comparing them. But there is a reason why Andre The Giant was the first name ever inducted into the Hall of Fame. He wrestled in just about every territory I think and if they wanted to make good use of a lot of libraries on one set it would be great. Each to their own though. I wouldn’t expect everyone to buy every WWE, that’s silly. The whole point of the show is you have your favourites and cheer for them. And Andre is one of my favourites.
While Andre and Dusty had similar guts, I don’t think they equalled each other in many other important fields. For one thing, Dusty was one of the very best talkers of all time. Andre was far from it. Dusty had incredible charisma, while Andre was more quiet, yet had incredible presence. Dusty also had the ability to have some great matches. I personally can’t think of a single great Andre match.
Regarding why Andre was the first entrant into the Hall of Fame, that’s politics. Andre happened to be the first guy that the McMahons ever promoted in such a unique way. Essentially, they worked out deals with the various territories where Andre would make random cameo appearances and both he and the McMahons would get a cut. They set it up so that way he’d never stay long enough in any area –like others of the day– to lose his specialness or ability to pop a big house number.
Andre was truly special in every way and a bonafide first ballot Hall of Famer, but Dusty was a far more versatile, creative and entertaining wrestler.
A proper 3-disc DVD set on Andre the Giant should have been done years ago. I only have the one disc DVD re-release of his old Coliseum Video tape from a few years ago.
Must be so annoying when readers misquote what you actually posted. Thanks for the clarification, guys.
Would like to see the set released but completely understand why, politically, if it isn’t.
And I’d like to take you out for a steak dinner.
God forbid a girl post something on the internet without getting instantly hit on
I’m vegan. Thanks anyway buddy.
I’d say 75% of what I post here is meant as a joke. Sometimes people miss the intent.
funny how you say its a joke after you get shot down, you got shutdown and know you don’t want to look like a fool
can a women just post and not be hit on?
i mean it took this guy less than a hour and he was asking hitting on her
To be honest I took it as a joke. Think people need to chill slightly.
Meet the miscreants of the comment section. 😉
Don’t know where else to ask this question so thought I would do it here. Daniel, do you know of the existence anywhere of a WWE DVD match index? I was thinking of creating one as I can’t find one, unless you, or anybody else, knows of one?
As in a list of every match available on WWE DVDs and which sets each match is on? Nope, but that’d make a great list. The closest thing we have on this site is…
http://www.wwedvdnews.com/list-of-wwe-championship-matches-on-dvd/13073/
Yeah, that’s what I mean, a list of every match and which set(s) it appears on. If there is nothing available I will create one once I get my new iMac and share with the site if you like.
Sure, it’s a date. No steak.
…though your name is coming up as Roland in the back-end of this site. #Oops? 😉
Savagra,
If you were to create a listing, in order, of every match ever released and the source or name of the DVD that it’s on, that would be a great help to everyone who’s ever wanted to find a match and not known where to look.
To help you, here’s a link to match listings of every DVD WWE has released: http://www.thehistoryofwwe.com/dvd.htm
I look forward to seeing the finished list.
I am working on the same thing for the WWE and TNA dvds at the moment and if I ever get them all done I will see about the best way to list it online.
I am missing the raw homecoming, trish stratus w/bonus disc, viva la raza w/bonus disc and wwf best of 2001 viewers choice dvds so I cannot fully complete them all.
Kind of fun but very time consuming.
I did the same thing for my dvds and blu rays and also labeled how long each chapter was. I’d share my list but a) it would be time consuming and b) I wouldn’t know where to start.
I still can’t believe the amount of great DVD’s that are going to be released for the rest of this year, and next year. So many to look forward to that I really can’t complain even if the Attitude Era one was postponed. Wether its on November 20th, or later, eventually, it will see the light of day. I liked the Attitude Era as much as anyone, but I’ve lived through other eras that were much better, in my opinion.
All I know is that I’m getting nWo November 6th and I’ll wait and see about Attitude Era one. If it’s cancelled it will be back because it’s too much of wrestling history to not be remembered.
ok so maby everyone can get off 1998s dick finally.
Or maybe you could just let people like what they like and shut the fuck up?
Sweary McPants
I’m not sure if I believe the “official report”. I think actions speaks louder than words, and cancellations on websites tell me that it probably isn’t happening. We haven’t seen a cover art yet, and the nWo one which comes out a few weeks before the attitude DVD is already out.
I suppose we will just have to wait and see what happens November 20. With all this attention on one DVD, then WWE would be stupid to not release it. I started watching WWF in the attitude and I am a WWE DVD collector. I will be a bit disappointed if we don’t see the DVD. Shout out to WWEDVDNEWS for keeping us posted. You guys are doing a great job!
