As WWE look to be beginning a new budget Home Video series entitled Superstar Collection, let’s look back on a series released over 20 years ago by Coliseum Video…
Hi again folks… Sean Mooney back with you for the latest installment of Coliseum Corner! This week we are bringing you something that is sure to please audiences of all ages.
Are you a collector?
Odds are if you are reading this article the answer is YES. Well in 1989 Coliseum Video realized there were a lot of fans like you and decided to release a 10 part series called… The Collector’s Series! (The catalog numbers for these releases in the U.S. were WS901-WS910).
These releases were 60 minutes in length and were priced (often at $19.95) much lower than the traditional “WF” full length releases. True to their name, this set contains become some of the most sought after titles for Coliseum Video collectors.
We hope that you enjoy the below pictures of each release, and if you have any of these then make sure to tweet us @ColiseumVideo with a picture. We would love to see how many of you still have these releases in your collection! Until next week…
WS901 – Hulk Hogan Real American
WS902 – WrestleMania’s Greatest Matches
WS903 – High Flyers
WS904 – WWE Strong Men
WS905 – Wrestling Superheros
WS906 – The Best Of Hulkamania
WS907 – The Ultimate Warrior
WS908 – WWE Wrestling Tough Guys
WS909 – WWE’s Funniest Moments
WS910 – Greatest Hits
Just got the WWF Wrestling Superheroes VHS for 49 cents at Goodwill
I have a v.h.s video of greatest hits collector;s series, can anybody tell me how much its worth,or know a web site that can tell me how much its worth
I have 4 of these. 3 aren’t listed. I have Wrestling Superheros and the ones that aren’t listed that I also have are Hulk Hogan’s Greatest Matches, WrestleMania The Greatest Hits and WWF Wrestling’s Greatest Champions.
I had Superheroes ( first ever WWF matches I ever saw and introduced me to the world of Wrestling) & Greatest Steel Cage Matches (not on the List). Are memories 🙂
Out of that list, I have;
– Hulk Hogan Real American
– Wrestling Superheros
– The Best Of Hulkamania
LOL at “Strong Men”
I remember reading an interview with Raven a while back (who used to work as a producer for WWE in 93-94), he was saying how they would purposely put crappy matches on these as to not detract from PPV buys. Their logic being that if you owned “good” matches, you wouldn’t have an incentive to buy PPV where the real “good” matches are. Nowadays you can find pretty much anything right away on youtube, back then tapes were all you had. How times have changed!
they should be released on DVD i think that will be…………………………………….. AWESOOOOMMMMMEEEEEEE!!!!!!!
Got the UK version of WM’s greatest matches. Bought it at a bring and buy sale my school did when I was like, 7. Funny, even back then I thought the matches on it sucked lol.
Yes! I used to have some of these (UK versions). Awesome.
Wow I got almost all of these, the ultimate warrior one is a tough find. I got most of the coliseum videos from back in the day, hell most are still sealed with the coliseum water mark, I love seeing these old videos still being talked about, they are still the originals with no editing, that makes them great!
Hi,
Are you interested in selling some of your sealed tapes? I would be willing to pay top dollar.
Look at that Tough Guys video, Bushwackers vs Powers of Pain, Duggan vs Boris Zhukov, Garvin vs Haku, and based off the picture Hercules vs Akeem. Wow, that’s a hell of a show. Funny how if there was a line up like this today people would complain but since it happened 20+ years ago now people love “the old days.”
I got the Best of Hulkamania free @ a Garage Sale I volenteered for last summer.
I actually have the Hulk Hogan and WrestleMania tapes. Got them when I was a kid and still have them to this day.
The “tough as nails” Bushwhackers? Whaaat?! Lol.
Theres something about Coliseum videos and the smell of summer that brings me back to my childhood going down the street to rent them. I hope WWE releases these on DVD sometime in the future (In North America).
Also, is this actually Sean Mooney writing these up? LOL
I have all 10 Collector’s series videos. They continued the WS series with WS 911 on up, but no longer had the WWF Collector’s Series logo on it. I remember Coliseum Video advertising a JYD & Royal Rumble 88 video, but were never released.
