Last month we were pleased to report that the new year will kick off with a ‘non-PPV/PLE’ WWE DVD for both the US and the UK; an Attitude Era-themed Royal Rumble set releasing in January.
WrestlingDVDNetwork.com now has an exclusive look at WWE’s planned cover artwork and confirmation of the DVD’s contents!
RELATED: FIRST FOR 2023: WWE “Best of Attitude Era Royal Rumble” DVD Scheduled for Both the US and UK
The official title will be “Best of Attitude Era Royal Rumble Matches” (which clears up whether this is a ‘Best of’ all matches at the Rumble event, or Royal Rumble matches specifically – it’s the latter). It’s on the schedules as a 2-disc DVD set with a UK release date of January 23rd and a US release date of January 24th, the Monday and Tuesday of the same week.
The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin and Rikishi appear front and center of the cover artwork, with The Undertaker featured on the spine. The logo is inspired by the Royal Rumble logo from 1999. Expect to see this artwork uploaded to retail sites soon, including here on Amazon.com, where the DVD can currently be pre-ordered for $19.98.
Our initial hunch of the content potentially including the full 1997-2001 Royal Rumble matches turned out to be correct. This is because the WWE Network special “The Best of WWE: Attitude Era Royal Rumble Matches” is presented on DVD here, which covered the Rumble matches from 1997 through to the year 2000. The DVD adds the 2001 Rumble to that collection to make it complete.
BEST OF ATTITUDE ERA ROYAL RUMBLE MATCHES
Relive the greatest Royal Rumble Matches from 1997-2000 with The Best of WWE: Attitude Era Royal Rumble Matches. Witness some of the greatest names in sports entertainment – such as “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, Triple H, The Rock, Undertaker, Kane, Shawn Michaels, and more – as they compete in WWE’s over-the-top-rope free-for-all.

Speaking of the Rumble, this year’s event now has an official DVD release date of February 28th to the United States. Royal Rumble 2023 is scheduled for the usual 2-disc DVD set.
We can confirm the US release of Royal Rumble will be on DVD format only, however Fremantle in the UK will definitely be offering an exclusive Blu-ray edition once again.
Pre-orders available in the US and UK soon!
A number of WDN readers (including “Ruthless.Attitude.Eras.4Life” who let us know first) spotted some new WWE DVD product listings on Amazon Germany in recent days, signalling a couple more ‘non-PPV/PLE’ Home Video releases might be on the way for early 2023.
You may recall similar happening on Amazon Germany earlier this year with “Summerslam 1992 – 30th Anniversary Edition” (which obviously did turn out to be true). On this occasion, though, we would like to verify the news before making an announcement — we’re hoping to do that during the week ahead, so please stay tuned.
I bought the attitude era Royal Rumble. On Disc 1, the 1997 1998 and unlisted 1999. On disc 2, tne 2000 Royal Rumble and for some reason the 2001 Royal Rumble is the special feature. Pretty weird. Can’t remember which Royal Rumble it is, i think 2001, but there is a weird replay that happens. I think it is a glitch. I think it is after Tazz gets eliminated by the rock.
These were good rumble matches I especially love 1997. But kindve an odd release. Haven’t bought a www dvd in forever. Bought the mania dvd from 2021.. and I barely watch anymore I just watch old stuff occasionally on peacock BUT of this is 10 dollars I might buy it. OR get some chipotle with the money instead lol
well.. we are getting more then just ppvs now but this is so lazy.
so each disk is 2 hours and a DVD EXTRA is rumble already listed……….. hua … ok then i mean better then nothing, but still
’97 Rumble isn’t represented with a photo anywhere on the front and back cover. Jjst sayin’. Even the cover designers don’t consider that to be Attitude Era.
The image of Austin on the top-left of the back cover, looking at his imaginary watch, is from the 1997 Rumble match.
As is the image of Austin, Undertaker, Fake Diesel and Flash Funk (also on the back cover).
what on earth are dvd ple’s and non ple’s?
Stands for premium live event no more pay per views brother
PLE (premium live event) is the new marketing term that is being forced down everyone’s throats in hopes that people stop using the PPV (pay-per-view) term. To that I say good luck. The term PPV has been used since 1985. They’re not just gonna all of a sudden have people breaking a 37 year habit, especially when these are still, in fact, airing on PAY-PER-VIEW!
will the attitude era royal rumble set be available in asia and australia?
Dont think Australia I read they stopped releasing wwe dvd ple there, but Asia think so will just be USA release you would get
See which one works out cheaper to buy UK release or American release eBay or Amazon when released
This & legend’s biography already pre-ordered let’s go!
Already pre-ordered this & legend’s biography for January let’s go!
Says Shawn Michaels on this but he did not enter rumble again till 2003 was not entered between 1997 to 2001
true, they should’ve fixed that error and added I dunno, mankind, shamrock or big show?
Maybe they have already printed on dvd cases too many typos they might leave it there haha
Now this is a release I am excited for!
although I wouldn’t be clamoring for this release, it’s okayish to me since I don’t the Anthology dvds and unless I’m mistaken this will be the only time since then that the 1997, 1998 and 1999 Rumble are being released on dvd.
(while 2000 and 2001 have obviously gotten standalone ppv releases back then)
If we’re gonna do miscellaneous big 4 releases, finally give us updated anthology sets. If not a big box set, give us something where each volume includes all the events of the era represented.
Golden Era (’88-’92, maybe ’93, I’m not really sure at what point ’93 is dubbed the New Generation)
New Generation(’93 or ’94-’97)
Attitude (’98-’02) the artwork for this release could’ve worked for my proposed idea
Ruthless Aggression (’03-’07, maybe ’08 depending on whenever WWE considered Ruthless Aggression to be over)
So on and so forth.
And yes, do the same pattern for SummerSlam and Survivor Series too, and maybe do individuals for WrestleMania for the sake of showing how special WrestleMania is.
Great artwork, pointless concept. And if anything, the 1997 Royal Rumble is still the New Generation era rather than Attitude, even with 1997 being the “dawn of attitude.” If anything, including all the matches from 1998-2002 would’ve made more sense, even with 2002 being a watershed period of Attitude and the start of Ruthless Aggression.
Yeah, but you’re absolutely right. Attitude clearly started with MchMahon’s speech after the screwjob in late ’97, and Ruthless Aggression started with John Cena uttering the words in mid-2002, not long after the name change to WWE. Prior to that, 2002 didn’t feel any different to the A.E.
Why on Earth wasn’t the Network special 1998-2001 anyway? When all of 2001 is fully considered to be part of the A.E. while only a fraction of 1997 is.
I’m sorry, but it’s just a depressingly pointless compilation release. Big deal.
Already got it pre ordered and if Ruthless is right (hopefully) what releases they are!
