Last month we broke the news that a Kurt Angle DVD, his first-ever with WWE, has made it as a last-minute addition to the 2017 schedule following Angle’s return to the company.
Today we’ve got our hands on the trailer (see it above) and exclusive to WrestlingDVDNetwork.com, a first look at the official cover artwork planned for the release!
“Kurt Angle – The Essential Collection” will be made available worldwide as a 3-disc DVD set and it will be formatted as a compilation of Kurt’s greatest matches, moments, and, “in his own words”, a Home Video-exclusive interview with the Olympic Gold Medalist himself.

The scheduled release date for this one is September 5th, one day later than the UK.
The next WWE DVD offering is not until the end of the month, but Kayfabe Commentaries has you covered with another edition of “SUPERCARD” this coming Tuesday!
The “SUPERCARD: SummerSlam ’88” DVD will see the Honky Tonk Man and the Kayfabe crew recount the event blow-by-blow. Watch this preview clip in which HTM discusses his refusal to drop the Intercontinental Champion to Randy Savage, which led to an entirely different match.

When does the match listing come about?
I like the cover, sometimes less is more, I think it looks fine. But I do think it’s shitty that Angle is the only one in the HOF class 2017 that’s getting this kind of recognition.
Aside from DDP that is.
Does anyone else think that Kurt cover looks a bit lazy? Just a photo with a black title bar just slapped over the top with no blending or photoshopping etc. Surely that’s just a provisional image and not the final artwork, because no effort has been made there at all.
If was just placeholder artwork we’d have said so in the post. It’s true, it’s damn true! 😎
Fair dos, just looks so out of place with previous WWE artworks to me. Looks more like a banner on WWE.com advertising something on the network. Quite simplistic and I think any of us could’ve knocked that up in MS Paint, but must just be me, lol.
I’d say it looks kewl! Although I would’ve preferred to see him with his full set of hair like back in 2000.
By my reckoning, KURT ANGLE week should be happening on this site very soon. This title is pretty much guaranteed a place in my collection!
It’s been a while since WWE released such a highly anticipated release like this. I have been waiting on this one for years! Now, lets great a Rick Rude dvd on the shelves. And also one for the man who revolutionized sports entertainment- you guessed it: Paul Roma!
Where r the match listing? Lol
What WWE ought to do, is release them all in DVD & Blu-ray combos just like how all the new movies are released nowadays and that way people can chose whether they want to watch it on DVD or Blu-ray and wouldn’t have to worry what sells better. It’s a shame that Kurt Angle Collection and Unreleased 1986-1995 won’t have a Blu-ray release with bonus matches, etc.
That sounds like a nice, simple way of putting it 🙂
I don’t know why WWE have just cut down on Blu’s for?!
“just like how all the new movies are released nowadays”
but that’s not accurate at all?! you can still easily get either the dvd or bluray, not both as a combo pack.
You mean your Star Wars Rogue One Blu-ray didn’t come with a DVD?! It’s very common to get new movie releases in both DVD & Blu-ray combo. You may have to pay a few extra dollars, but you can get them in a combo pack.
also it might lead to the producers actually using all of the dvds again.
(look at many of the older releases. especially since the start of bluray releases the WWE has cut back on the length of dvd content, instead reserving some of it as a blu exclusive)
That is what WWE should have done back when they started doing blu-rays. If fans only have a DVD player, they might want to purchase a blu-ray player, when they see they already have a lot of blu-rays in their collection.
Nice cover! And while it’s a slight bummer there’s no BR, it’s not as big of a deal since Kurt left 2 years before they switched to HD (unlike the Rollins collection coming out where his entire WWE career was shot in HD).
Very good point – never looked at it like that!
Wow, amazing artwork. Really looking forward to this release.
Is that picture of Angle recent or archival?
I agree with RCS1988 I am looking forward to seeing reveals for both of these upcoming releases as well
Is it only DVD and not Blu-Ray? This company should be moving into selling only Blu Ray not backwards and cutting Blu-Ray’s in favour of DVD’s.
DVD outsells blu ray that’s why
True, but I think ‘Ryan’ is right… they should carry on w/Blu-Rays & perhaps knock the prices down a little if they feel they can’t sell them so much!
Then again, I’m in the UK & I know loads of people whom go for blu-rays the most.
Looking forward to adding this one to my collection. I am a Pittsburgh native and Angle is truly one of the best ever.
, Rebellion 2000, I think he had a triple threat for the title with HHH/ rock after he won kotr on RAW the day after, undertaker no way out 06, vs Eddie halloween02, edge from backlash/ judgement day02. I hope these will make it
Why no Blu Ray?
It seems DVD still sells better and is cheaper to produce. I prefer bluray as well but sadly physical media seems to be fading away as well.
That sucks big time! DVD’s are great but Blu-Rays are more full of surprises including extra scenes/matches, etc
None of his matches were HD anyway so why would u want them on bluray :S
Pretty simple really… cos titles like ‘Ultimate Warrior’ / Owen Hart & others were based in older times, yet they still came out in great HD (Blu-Ray) sets! N Angle is hardly so old! I’d say some of his great matches started round 2000-02
The picture quality for the older footage is far superior on Blu-ray than on DVD. Unlike on DVD, there is no picture pixelation with Blu-ray. I seriously hope WWE starts making titles on Blu-ray again soon.
because (allegedly?) the bluray versions of many titles did not sell that well.
that’s why only select titles will be released on blu from now on, usually sheer match compilations unfortunately generally aren’t anymore.
Hopefully a Kurt Angle week with listing reveals comes next week followed by Unseen Matches 1986-1995 match reveals the week after.
Interesting, yes, but a it would be a shame that I won’t be getting it if no Blu-Ray comes out for him
I actually don’t hope for this. Lately it seems the match reveals are too far ahead of time. I do like knowing whats on them but knowing all the content 3-4 months ahead of time makes it feel like I’ve already seen it by the time it comes out.
why?
I mean, if you haven’t actually seen the matches before, why would you have the feeling to have seen them? (and if you HAVE seen them, it’s not just a “feeling” but something you actually did)
