Two Matches Revealed for ECW UNRELEASED Vol. 1 Blu-ray Edition

April 2, 2012 by Daniel Bee

Last night Joey Styles confirmed the cover art we revealed earlier in the day for “ECW UNRELEASED” on DVD/BD.

Along with that though, he revealed these two matches that will included on the release as Blu-ray exclusives.

Three Way Dance for the ECW Championship
Sabu vs. Terry Funk vs. “The Franchise” Shane Douglas
The Night The Line Was Crossed – 2/5/94

Tommy Dreamer vs. Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka
The Night The Line Was Crossed – 2/5/94

Joey’s updates on Facebook from yesterday read,

Coming June 2012, I am proud to host the home video release available on both DVD and Blu-ray, ECW UNREALEASED VOLUME 1“.

Some people think that ECW was all about blood and barbed wire. Many people forget that ECW was about great wrestling instead of gimmicks. It’s time to remind them.

The ECW UNRELEASED VOLUME 1 Blu-ray will include the Triple Threat Match that arguably put ECW in the national spotlight, The Night The Line Was Crossed: Sabu vs. Terry Funk vs. “The Franchise” Shane Douglas plus Tommy Dreamer making history vs. Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka from 2/5/94…BUY A BLU-RAY PLAYER FOR THESE TWO MATCHES“.

ECW: UNRELEASED – Volume 1 will be released within the US on June 5th, 2012. It’s available to pre-order on DVD and Blu-ray formats by clicking here.

Re: Vincenzzzzzo, it will be upscaled footage, not real HD, but it’s the best we will get.

  3. Vincenzzzzzo says:

Lol @ Joey Styles “buy a blu-ray player” bit. It took me a long time to jump into the blu-ray stuff, but I’m so glad I did. Especially watching wrestling, the picture is amazing.

Anyway, to the topic at hand. I’m very excited for this release. I can’t wait to watch ECW in HD.

  4. SRB says:

I like most people here have both of these matches already. Got them like 10 years ago on DVDR and the quality is so bad that Sabu looks like Kurt Angle. Even if you have these already get the Blu-Ray, to finally get this 3 way match directly from WWE and on blu-Ray is a double win. Even if the content is released and you have everything already (highly unlikely) this is still worth getting to see ECW on Blu-Ray. The quality will be perfect as well as the matches. Day 1, no question

  5. nightmare says:

I have both of these matches already so I still not sure if I will buy the blu ray or dvd yet .

FINALLY!! The greatest multi-man match in PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING history makes a WWE DVD!! Its about time!! Ohh man you WWE fans are gonna love it! It put ECW on the map and brought WRESTLING back to North America!

  7. oldschool says:

all the ecw items are already on dvd. http://www.rfvideo.com/ecw.aspx
If you want your stuff uncut and uncensored I would check out the above website. ECW before the original one folded had a deal with rfvideo to release their tapes/dvds. When wwe bought ecw out rfvideo retained their rights to release the ecw library.

    • Mark D says:

If you have ‘issues’ with purchasing from RF Video they actually sold the rights to the ECW footage recently to Highspots. However part of the deal stipulated that all of their ECW releases must carry the RF logo. Just a heads up.

      • SRB says:

RF and Highspots are both great for old school purcahses like ECW and new stuff like shoot interviews. But, the stuff is on DVDR, so youre not really getting official releases like the WWE/ECW library. Only WWE bought the official ECW video library.

      • neverAcquiesce says:

        Heh, “issues”…

  8. indyfan says:

Complaining about borders isn’t as bad as complaining about dvd covers. Complaining about the cover is the absolute idiotic thing you can complain about. But yeah get used to the borders. who cares?

  9. SRB says:

So these 2 matches announced seem to be the blu-ray extras. Is that correct? Isn’t the 3 way dance about an hour long? I might be confusing it wih another match.

    • Mark D says:

Nope, you are exactly right – its a great match.

    • Anonymous says:

Yeah the 3 way dance was a 60minute time limit triangle match and typically we get just over an hour of blu-ray exclusive extras so those 2 matches would make sense

      • SRB says:

Nice, thanks guys. This looks like it could easily be DVD of the year. Even with these 2 teasers as far as content I’ll predict this as a fantastic release.

  10. ALK says:

Borders are here to stay, as far as old footage is concerned, so better get used to em…

  11. jgreeds says:

People bitching about borders again? You really don’t get it, do you? Next thing you know you’ll be complaining about the bluray getting more features…

    • Dave says:

I agree…people just don’t understand the regarding the side bars on archive footage…WWE has been putting out DVDs in 16:9 since 2010…any footage that is recorded in 4:3 will have side bars.

Some people are just too dense to realize that.

  12. Dave says:

Let the whining and crying begin from people that don’t have a Blu-ray player, claiming how Blu-ray purchasers get extras they don’t………..

  13. Nate says:

YES….Finally the three way dance gets a DVD release.

  14. Sticky Fingers says:

i wont purchase this if wwe edits out the blood or adds in those stupid borders.

    • Daniel Bee says:

Blood won’t be edited. The borders will be in. Does that really still need explaining?

      • Harry Faversham says:

Well you might have to explain it to new readers, which you want of course? Those are great matches so far!

        • Daniel Bee says:

Sure and I do. Maybe needs it’s own page ;).

          • Harry Faversham says:

Well maybe you could have a FAQ page mate. Just a suggestion, but if a newcomer has a question I think its nice if someone can answer it. What’s obvious to a veteran like yourself might not be to some of the little Daniel Bee fans out there. Just my opinion as always. But a lot of people do raise similar questions about tagged classics regions for example. I know you’ve got it all covered.

    • neverAcquiesce says:

The borders help maintain the aspect ratio. If they weren’t there your TV or player might stretch it to fill your 16:9 screen and, believe me, it looks terrible.

  15. Roaster says:

Was getting the bluray regardless. Can’t wait
