30 years (to the day!) since SummerSlam was taped at the fabled Wembley Stadium in London, England, fans in the UK will be able to rush out and pick up a copy of SummerSlam 1992 and relive “the SummerSlam you thought you’d never see”, remastered for the first time on Blu-ray and DVD!
BREAKING: SummerSlam 1992 – 30th Anniversary Blu-ray/DVD Added to WWE Home Video Schedule!
In the weeks since the announcement there has been much speculation regarding the title’s content (outside of the event itself). The inclusion of the three dark matches, which were taped but not part of the PPV broadcast, was confirmed. Of course, those matches did air on WWE TV in the following weeks, but were not released on the VHS in the US. In Europe, they were included on the VHS.
Outside of these three matches, would the remastered Blu-ray and DVD have any additional material included? Today, with the full content listing, we have that answer for you: YES!
The new SummerSlam ’92 DVD will include those dark matches and a 17-minute version of the 30-minute PPV Countdown show to the event (it should be noted, these shows often included repeated packages and PPV ordering info, which may account for the reduced runtime). The Countdown shows aired prior to the PPV as a way to hype the show, much akin to the current day “Kickoff” shows as a way to hype the show and provide backstory to the matches.
Interestingly, the SummerSlam 1992 countdown is one which has never found its way online in the 30 years since its initial airing – unlike so many of the others which did surface – so this one will be seen for the first time in a long time!
EDIT: The SummerSlam countdown show was planned to be a Blu-ray exclusive, as we originally had written here, but has now been squeezed into the DVD extras too!
WrestlingDVDNetwork.com has also learned that the initial pressing of the DVDs will feature a rather snazzy orange coloured case. This is likely to only ever be found on the first copies Fremantle produce, so if you’d like to secure yours, you’ll need to pre-order or pickup your copy early.
The Blu-ray edition will include even more bonus footage!
In addition to the dark matches and the countdown show, the Blu-ray will feature three episodes of Superstars that aired during the build to SummerSlam – the August 15th, 22nd and 29th episodes. So that’s tons of bonus interviews, promos and more content featuring stars of the era.
On both Blu-ray and DVD there will also be a special playback option featured which will mean you can watch the show as it aired on PPV or you can witness the event as the 80,355 people in attendance did — this being with the three dark matches inserted back into the event at the points where they were actually taped (the Tito Santana vs. Papa Shango and six-man tag prior to the opening contest, and the Tatanka vs. Berzerker match prior to the main event).

The SummerSlam 1992 – 30th Anniversary Edition will be released to fans in the UK on Monday August 29th (30 years to the day the event took place), while Germany gets it later that same week on the Friday, September 2nd. That week is also significant because WWE’s Clash at the Castle stadium show will be held in the UK on the Saturday.
Why are all the tagged classics and anthology of the summerslam’s in full screen and yet this has the black bars ?
Easy answer. WWE remastered all this stuff for the netword in 720p (HD Widescreen), so the black bars cover the space that otherwise have video on a regular wide screen/HD video (like the 2008 and beyond shows) or the DVDS that will have themed side bars (I hate those, lol). So, with this, the video maintains its original look without the need to adjust anyhting on your HD TV. But, you will not be able to manipulate the image and strech it wide like you can with old DVDs, which looks like sh*t to be honest.

– Who’s corner is Mr. Perfect in?
Should be “Whose”. Ugh.
Day 1 purchase for me if it was released in Canada. ☹️
This is how you load up and release a Blu-ray ! Too bad we don’t get this in the United States.
I always import all this good stuff they release in the UK. No way I will be left out of this goodness.
MITB 2022 DVD artwork now on Amazon UK. Cover nothing to write home about and single disc/no extras it look a like. Oh well.
it looks like *
I counted 5 hours 47 minutes on 1 bluray disc. If I am not mistaken, this will by far be the most loaded 1-disc ever, even surpassing the disc 2 of the 20-0 streak bluray-release which was 4 hours 50 minutes or something like that.
So happy to once again see a release similar to the heydays of physical content. Let’s have more of these! 😉
Just gonna correct myself regarding highest runtime for 1 disc prior to this awesome Wam-Bam-SummerSlam’mer disc: Not 20-0 disc 2, but Royal Rumble 2019 bluray, clocking in on 05h22m35s. I do not own the WM’s 35-38, so don’t know if any of those releases have a disc surpassing the 5h47m runtime for SS ’92?
Will this ever be available in Canada?
while I understand the reason (the “Castle” show), it’s still crazy to me that is something that exists (well, will be existing, I guess).
like, just weeks prior to the announcement, would anyone have guessed that there was any chance of a 1992 show getting a bluray release?!
(and since I love that show this is day 1 buy for me. can’t wait to revisit it and even watch all those Superstars episodes beforehand)
Dying for this to be released in the U.S.!
Actually we don’t care about this anymore! cause every thing in this set is in the WWE Network
– SummerSlam 1992 Countdown Show
And the 3 dark matches aren’t on the Network either.
Best release in a long long time. Hopefully there will be more classic PPV’s re-released like this (HD remastered with tons of bonus content).
Great comment and couldn’t agree more! For those of us who prefer HD over inferior DVD quality this is a great release, especially with the bonus goodies as a cherry on top.
Maybe it’s just because I’m from the UK and I’ve therefore never had any trouble accessing those dark matches since they are on the VHS AND the Tagged Classics DVD release which I still have, but I’m not psyched for this at all.
The only thing that would’ve pulled me in would’ve been the three Superstars episodes, but as I buy DVD rather than BluRay that’s not even a selling point for me either. A 17 minute countdown show alone isn’t enough reason to buy this.
The legends segment will finally be shown hopefully.
Nice listing, but that seems like a lot to fit on one blu ray. I will get this at some point.
It is so refreshing to see a Blu Ray release packed with extras again.
