Fantasy Concept: WWE Championship – 50th Anniversary

WDN Fantasy Concept

Fantasy Concept returns today to look at: WWE Championship: 50th Anniversary.

Next April will mark the 50th Anniversary of the WWE’s richest prize: the WWE Championship, and I decide this milestone should be marked with a four disc DVD and three disc Blu-ray set. The set would feature a documentary looking at the history of the championship, complimented with a selection of Championship matches from the 1970s up until the modern day.

  1. mr love says:

oh jesus give me Shawn Michaels free with this Blue ray Disc

with love from Misha Armaan Rohit

    from India

  2. Spritz1999 says:

GREAT concept, I’d love to see more RAW title defences on here, I know there isn’t a lot, but some more would be cool to see! Just because they are not often released. 🙂

  3. Scsa says:

Good concept, but why don’t you or the WWE ever think about putting in the WM6 multi-title match-up for both the IC & WWF Championship between The Ultimate Warrior & Hulk Hogan??!!? I’ve been waiting for that match to come out on Blu-Ray ever since the start of wrestling Blu-rays!!

    It’s like nobody wants it!

  4. Nate says:

Where are the wwe championship elimination chamber and hell in a call matches, there have been some good ones.

  5. Anonymous says:

Very nice! One suggestion for a future fantasy concept (not sure if this is out in real life, doubt it): The History of the WWE Tag Team Titles

  6. This is great! good job great read

  7. JoMo says:

PLEASE TELL ME WHAT PROGRAM YOU USE!

  8. Marty says:

Mark, as usual, a fine effort! It can be argued which matches should be used, should be replaced, should be used instead, etc. but I generally like the layout. What would sell me the most is the doc. A championship that’s been around for 50 years has a story that needs to be told. I think you have the chapter layout perfectly done.

  9. DrewD says:

I’m with the anonymous guy, cut the Austin/Kane title change and put on the Austin/Undertaker title change from June 1999 Raw.

  10. Anonymous says:

i would put the stone cold steve austion vs undertaker from raw from the atittude era

  11. mason says:

when do you guys at dvd news think you will get the attitude era dvd cover

  12. CrimeDawg says:

That would be an awesome DVD. Really like most of the matches. Wonder if there is any stuff out there from Bruno’s first run as champ.
Also agree the In Your House Final Four would be a great choice.

  13. Supersonic says:

Not bad at all, some repeats but enough stuff not on DVD (or HD not on blu ray yet.)

  14. Mongoose Wizard says:

YES Mick is awesome! I sent him a tweet about his Boiler Room Brawl match with Big Show at Backlash 1999 for his new DVD/Blu Ray and he replyed back! Look it up on Twitter! 🙂 THANK YOU MICK!

  15. Marcelo says:

I tried finding a record of a ric flair vs undertaker match from 1992 but I couldn’t find anything?

  16. miz4life says:

Bob Backlund Vs Harley Race is an instant Sell for me, hope its on Best of MSG. Like to See Miz title win on there too.

  17. This looks great. Love the plain/simple cover. Quite the match listing too.
    This one got me excited.

  18. Mongoose Wizard says:

I agree with Brad that’s a match we all have been wanting to see for a long while now! It is definately a classic!

  19. Brad Attitude says:

Great concept although I’d replace the iron man match from Bragging Rights 2009 and throw in the iron man match from Judgment Day 2000 featuring Triple H vs. The Rock 🙂

    • Mark D says:

I agree, I did try and get the Rock/HHH iron man on here – it’s just would you like that 1 match or 5 others?

Plus the reason I decided to go for the Orton/Cena Iron Man was because typically the blu-ray extras are mainly HD footage and as that match has never been released in HD, I thought it would be a nice addition.

      • Brad Attitude says:

Fans have long wanted to see the Iron Man match from Judgment Day 2000. I think in this case, it would be easy to choose that over 5 random matches. But if it were the 2009 iron man match, then I think its split 50/50.

  20. wrestlingfan says:

I would like to see one on the western heritage title from wcw

  21. Anonymous says:

Looks good. The only potential problem I see is, and this may be a stupid question, but are all of those WWWF matches on disc one on tape?

  22. Anonymous says:

i would replaced the hogan vs mr wonderful big event match with the match they had at maple leaf gardens in 1985 or their snme match from october of 1986.

  23. Anonymous says:

Triple Threat Match for the WWE Championship
Rob Van Dam vs. John Cena vs. Edge
    Raw • July 3, 2006

If I see this damn match on another set….

  24. Marco says:

Like the concept, but hate the cover and choice of matches.

  25. KarlKayfabian says:

    Some glaring omissions, imo:

    Final Four

    1st Six-Pack Challenge

    Sid vs Bret (RAW)

    Austin vs Taker(RAW)

Triple H vs Big Show (RAW)

    Triple H. vs Rock (Ironman)

    Vince vs Triple H (Smackdown)

  26. KarlKayfabian says:

Though I do love the concept.

  27. KarlKayfabian says:

    Waaaaaay too many repeats.

  28. Dave says:

Looks like a nice collection of matches and a documentary would be pretty awesome.

I would also include Diesel vs. Bret Hart from King of the Ring 1994…surprised this match has yet to be released on DVD (other than the Tagged Classics in the UK). I thought this was their best match together, but their RR 95 and SSeries 95 matches were also really good, but the KOTR match was a rare gem.

  29. Steven says:

Good concept and I hope WWE will do one last set on Shawn Michaels because he deserves it and he had some 5 star matches when he was champion in 1996, against Bulldog, Mick Foley, Goldust in a ladder match its on YouTube last I saw it, and many other classics.

  30. james says:

How the hell did WWE not think of/promote this? I don’t think I’ve ever heard WWE even talk about the 50th anniversary on TV. Which is wierd since they love patting themselves on the back so much with their statistics. Mark, this is incredible!

  31. Hot Rod says:

I love these, Mark D does a phenomenal job with these.

  32. Scsa says:

It would interest me if only if SILVERVISION were to still stay available in the UK.

Your match listings look great, though I don’t understand why nobody has ever put up the WWF/IC title match yet from WM6 between Hulk Hogan & The Ultimate Warrior 🙁
That match needs to come out on Blu-Ray!

  33. Steven Jackson says:

Amazing collection of rare and well-known matches with a great looking documentary. I would have replaced the John Cena vs. JBL WM 21 match with their I Quit match at Judgment Day 2005 as I feel that is way superior, but great collection nonetheless.

  34. Waz says:

ThaT would be awesome would love to see it, also view my YouTube http://www.youtube.com/user/TheWazperviz/featured

  35. john rega says:

    I want on blu-ray

  36. Vincenzzzzzo says:

Even though WWE released the History of the WWE Championship previously, I think a 50th anniversary edition is fitting. Like this concept shows, with the added documentary on the history, and an entirely new match listing….this would be a great release, I think. I really like the match listing here. Each disc seems jam packed.

    • Dave says:

I hope WWE will continue with the “History of” titles sets in those booklet style cases to compliment with the WWE, World and IC title sets.

The US one would be a nice addition since it does have a rich history like the IC title.

  37. Harry Faversham says:

A United States Championship DVD would be quite welcome. I would say tag titles too but I don’t really see them releasing a set on one that is retired. Makes no sense to me why they retired the titles with the most history by the way (Women’s and World Tag Titles) and kept the versions that really don’t have much crewdibility (Divas, WWE Tag Titles). I would also say that they really need to improve their belt designs, stop making them look so gimmicky and make them look like a championship that people would work hard every night to have possession of. Simple but effective.

Its rare for me but I’m not too keen on this fantasy concept. I don’t think a set about the belt should feature rare and random matches but just the true defining moments and that is kind of what the set they released was. So I would be in favour of just an update to that set. But keep up the good fantasy work Mark, My faves so far were your Rick Rude, nWo and Bret Unreleased concepts. We are lucky that 2 of those are actually happening. Maybe they are watching you.

    • Vincenzzzzzo says:

I agree about the championship designs. My favorite WWE title design was when Brock Lesnar had the WWE Undisputed Championship back in 2002-2003. Awesome design. I really don’t like how the title today says “CHAMP” on it. Cheapens the meaning, it in my opinion.

    • Anonymous says:

I agree with you as far as the US title history. I’d like to see the history of the Tag Team title And the Million Dollar Man Bruno Samartino and Jerry Lawler DVD sets. I’d like to see the Fantasy Concept’s for those. I think part of the resion the US Title has not been done. Might be because of Chris Benoit. He was a big part of the the US title’s comeback in the last 10 years.

  38. Markus says:

I would prefer some DVD-Sets about the other Titles. The WWE Title has a History set and I think it’s enough. But I would buy it because I don’t own the other set. 😀

  39. Anonymous says:

I will definitely be giving this one a miss.

    • RabidHeat says:

      It’s not real, dude.

I wouldn’t buy this though, the last History of the WWE Championship was good enough. And quite frankly, not much worthy of note to do with the title has happened since, lol.
