EXCLUSIVE: Full Match Listing for WWE ‘30 Years of SUMMERSLAM’ DVD – 18 Bouts, Reports & Recaps!

June 6, 2018 by Daniel Bee

WWE '30 Years of SummerSlam' DVD - Full Content Revealed!

It’s heating up today at WrestlingDVDNetwork.com as we exclusively reveal the FULL content listing WWE has in the works for “30 Years of SummerSlam”.

SummerSlam will be the last of the “Big Four” Pay-Per-Views to have its history documented on WWE Home Video following the 3-disc sets released in recent years on WrestleMania (“The True Story of WrestleMania” in 2011), Royal Rumble (“The True Story of the Royal Rumble” in 2016) and Survivor Series (“30 Years of Survivor Series” last year).

On the heels of this year’s upcoming SummerSlam spectacular in Brooklyn, New York, three decades worth of SummerSlam moments will be collected together for the latest 3-disc retrospective.

This time around it’s a match compilation and WWE have just finalized their list of 18 featured bouts — among them are WWE title matches, Intercontinental title matches, Women’s title matches, two Ladder matches, a Steel Cage match, a TLC match and even a Boiler Room Brawl!

Joining the matches will be a series of “Reports” and “Recaps” that highlight important SummerSlam milestones in its 30-year history (might we see a familiar face return to host these segments – perhaps Gene Okerlund or Sean Mooney?)

Everything combined, by our count “30 Years of SummerSlam” is set to pack in 8 hours and 40 minutes of content and you can own it all this August. We’re so quick with today’s scoops that this new WWE DVD offering has not yet been listed on Amazon.com (expect it within a week or two) but if you’re in the UK it is available to pre-order right now here on Amazon.co.uk.

  1. Me.me.me says:

Bunch of trolls in here talking about wwe putting out junk , but still bought & watched the release in moms basement, you trolls suck

  2. Yankee says:

    Nearly time for this!

  3. Brad says:

What a terrible collection. All the best matches happened from 88-91.. and you skipped over 90% of them?! Bret Hart vs. Mr. Perfect.. Warrior vs. Rude for the IC title, Mega Powers vs The Mega Bucks.. all of these classics are missing.. I have the box set, so luckily, I wont need to waste my money on this set..

  4. SCSA says:

WHY IN THE HELL AREN’T THEY INCLUDING A COUNTDOWN OF 30 GREAT MOMENTS TO THIS SET LIKE THEY DID IN THE ‘30 YEARS OF THE SURVIVOR SERIES’ SET⁉️

    • RabidHeat says:

Because that sucked and only filled 1 hour of the disc?

      • SCSA says:

No! That didn’t SUCK! At least it would go through 30 Years of Summerslam- Adding the 30 greatest moments!

        • RabidHeat says:

No new interviews were recorded, no talking heads, no new material. All of the moments were presented in the exact same form that they were on the original PPVs, which we already own. It sucked. And it was lazy. And you haven’t addressed the 2 hours of unused disc space on the countdown disc.

    • Anan says:

I’d have honestly preferred a documentary type style like True Story of WM and I think the RR set had over a countdown like the SSeries. You may gst your countdown portion if they ever release a RAW 30 or 35 set counting down the best moments in the show’s history but that means dvd repeats.

  5. Foley is good says:

Zero interest in this release. Oh well at least I will save some cash.

  6. Jose Roman says:

What a damn waste already have the anthology so yeah won’t be buying this crap….they gave up on anthologies smh

  7. MikeS_87 says:

It’ll never happen I know, but I wish WWE would go back to releasing complete anthology sets of PPVs instead of lazy releases like this.

  8. LP1 says:

They should have included (fill in the match) from SummerSlam (fill in the year). That would’ve made this set way better.

    • whut says:

      best comment.

    • Vincenzzzzzo says:

Isn’t that what comment sections are for, to talk about the subject of the article?

      • SRB says:

No Vincenzzzzzo, hence your thumbs down! The comment section is only designed to praise every single release WWE comes out with. Me personally, I’m looking very forward to this year’s upcoming Brock Lesnar set. 9 hours of suplexes! and a bonus disc with nothing on it since we haven’t seen Brock in months!

      • LP1 says:

I don’t even understand what you mean. I was referring to the SummerSlam 30th Anniversary DVD. Unless I’m missing something.

  9. Henry says:

I’m gonna pass on this set. I knew the match listing wouldn’t be good if it’s being released so soon. Some things never change.

    • whut says:

how would a sooner release make this release any better, when it’s literally a compilation of the last three decades?

      • SAB says:

Henry’s comment meant match listing released so far ahead of DVD release.

        • whut says:

I was aware of that. my point was that how would the match listing change significantly anyway?

          • SAB says:

            What?!

            • LP1 says:

SAB, the original commenter said he knew the match listing wouldn’t be good if the listing is being released so soon. I believe WHUT’s point is how would the match listing be any better, no matter when the listing is released? It’s still going to be the same matches anyway.

              • Henry says:

It’s not the first time they’ve done this. 30 Years of Survivor Series match listing came out so soon and it looked like no effort was put in whatsoever.

              • RabidHeat says:

I think what the original poster meant was if it was a more exciting match listing they would’ve waited and drummed up interest before posting it, but instead they just threw it out there early because they knew we wouldn’t like it anyway. I dunno, something like that. I think he was talking about when the listing was released, not the release of the DVD set itself.

  10. Vincenzzzzzo says:

Definitely should have had the Mega Powers vs the Mega Bucks on this DVD. I would have even preferred Hogan vs Earthquake rather than Hogan vs Michaels!

  11. SCSA says:

I feel that most of the matches are good, though ‘Perfect Vs Bret Hart’ should have been added!

Also isn’t there supposed to be a big list of 30 – 1 Best moments just like the 30 Best moments of Survivor Series?!

    • whut says:

from a “die hard” collector standpoint, that makes this compilation basically worthless (as much as many of us love some oldschool SummerSlam reports, we’re not going to pay money just for that, right?).

(although considering what an awful rushjob the Survivor Series seemed to have been, the home video department probably did us a favor)

      • Lachy says:

So it’s ok having Bret Hart vs. The British Bulldog for the umpteenth time but it’s worthless having Mr. Perfect vs. Bret Hart?

  12. Anan says:

Not a bad list. But if this is really supposed to be “the best of Summerslam” as I’m thinking it’s supposed to be, then the following really should’ve been included:

91: Bret Hart vs Mr Perfect – to this very day, still one of if not the definitive IC Title match in Summerslam history!

95: HBK vs Razor Ramon – a great follow up from their first Ladder match classic from WM10.

97: Taker vs Bret Hart – imho, best wrestling match of this specific year’s Summerslam.

98: Taker vs SCSA – of all their 1 on 1 ppv matches, this imho was their best one.

99: SCSA vs HHH vs Mankind – one of the best ppv closers of the Attitude Era and specifically 1999.

2000: TLC 1, Rock vs HHH vs Kurt Angle – TLC 1 us just legendary at this point and Rock vs HHH vs Angle is one of the best triple threat matches ever from a match quality standpoint,

2005: Taker vs Orton – a good, solid wrestling match. One of 2005’s best rivalries. Their chemistry always gelled.

2011: Orton vs Christian, Cena vs Punk – Orton and Christian in my eyes never had a bad match against each other and Cena and Punk were some of the greatest rivals of each other’s respective wrestling careers.

2013: Punk vs Lesnar – along with the already included Bryan vs Orton, this alongside that match are tied for mstch of the night 2013’s Summerslam.

2015: Fatal 4 Way Tag Team Title match, Cena vs Rollins, Taker vs Lesnar – loved the Fatal 4 Way. It was around this time New Day started getting over. Cena vs Rollins was an absolute hsrd worked, hard fought match. Taker vs Lesnar was a match the crowd (I was there so I know) was into start to finish!

2016: Demon Balor vs Seth Rollins – Banks vs Charlotte is already included. To me this is the other match that deserves to be on the dvd. Those who’ve seen the match already know why. For those that don’t know why, watch it.

This is what I believe is the best of Summerslam that’s missing from the 30 Years of Summerslam match listing. I skipped some years either bc I don’t remember those Summerslam events or didn’t think anything from those years were worth adding to the dvd’s match listing. If you believe I left something out that should’ve been included, feel free to add it rather than attack or criticize me for leaving it out.

  13. Ricardo Aguilera says:

This would have been my list summer slam 88 mega powers vs andre and Ted disabise summer slam 88 warrior vs honkey tonk man ic championship match summer slam 89 ic championship match Rick rude vs warrior summer slam 90 steel cage match warrior vs Rick rude summer slam 91 ic championship match Mr perfect vs Bret Hart summer slam 92 ic championship match Bret Hart vs bulldog summer slam 94 steel cage match wwe championship match Bret Hart vs Owen Hart summer slam 95 ladder match ic championship Shawn Michaels vs razor Ramon summer slam 96 wwe championship match Shawn Michaels vs vader summer slam 97 steel cage match mankind vs HHH summer slam 98 ladder match for ic championship The Rock vs HHH summer slam 99 love her or leave her street fight match Shane McMahon vs test summer slam 00 tlc match for the tag team championship edge and Christian vs Dudley Boyz vs hardy Boyz summer Slam 01 wwe championship match Austin vs angle summer slam 02 street fight match HHH vs hbk summer slam 02 wwe championship match the Rock vs Brock Lesnar Summer slam 03 elimination chamber match for the world heavyweight championship HHH vs Orton vs Jericho vs hbk vs Nash vs Goldberg summer slam 2004 wwe championship match JBL vs undertaker Summer slam 05 ladder match for the custody of Dominic Eddie Guerrero vs Rey mysterio summer slam 06 dx vs the McMahon’s summer slam 07 wwe championship match Cena vs Orton summer slam 08 hell in a cell match undertaker vs edge summer slam 09 tlc match for the world heavyweight championship match Jeff Hardy vs cm punk summer slam 10 team wwe vs Nexus summer slam 11 wwe champion John Cena vs wwe champion cm punk special referee HHH summer slam 12 Brock Lesnar vs HHH summer slam 13 no dq match cm punk vs Brock Lesnar summer slam 13 wwe championship match John Cena vs Daniel Bryan summer slam 14 lumberjack match Dean Ambrose vs Seth Rollins summer slam 15 champion vs champion for both championships United States champion John Cena vs wwe champion Seth Rollins summer slam 15 Brock Lesnar vs undertaker Summer slam 16 John Cena vs aj styles summer slam 17 wwe raw tag team championship Sheamus and Cesaro vs Rollins and Ambrose summer slam 17 fatal 4 way match for the universal championship Brock Lesnar vs brawn strownman vs Samoa Joe vs Roman reigns

    • Anan says:

Great list of matches but I’d leave out Test vs Shane and Taker vs JBL Shane’s had better matches in his career. By 2004, JBL did reach the top as Champion but I felt his in ring was a bit slowed down compared to his explosive Acolytes/APA days. But hey that’s just my opinion. The crowd was disrespectful during Taker vs JBL with their wave and I wouldn’t want WWE to take up disc space w/that disrespect when there’s other matches they could add instead. I added my own match additions list in a separate comment but I just thought of 3 more that could be added to the set:

2004: Eddie Guererro vs Kurt Angle – a great sequel to their WM20 classic.

2005: Rey Mysterio vs Eddie Guererro – If I’m not mistaken the ending to one of the best SD rivalries of 2005 (the other being Taker vs Orton.)

2008: Taker vs Edge – the ending to the best rivalry of 2008 (along with HBK vs Jericho.)

    • LP1 says:

That’s 34 matches you have listed. It would have to be a 5 disc set to fit all of them.

      • Anan says:

They could always replace some matches w/other ones. Or if this set sells well enough which I feel is unlikely they could have a follow up that includes the missing matches. That maybe why they left those matches off this set, in hopes that it’d sell good enough to warrant another set of SSlam matches.

    • whut says:

how are all of these going to fit on a three disc set (or probably even on a four disc one)?

  14. Cracker_Jack says:

Hopefully, we will see something similar to this for WCW PPV’s. SuperBrawl, and Halloween Havoc deserve some love.

    • Todd Cash says:

I wouldn’t hold my breath…with the network wwe seemed to have forgotten about wcw releases…

      • MikeS_87 says:

You’d think with the network that they’d have forgotten about releases like this SummerSlam one aswell.

        • whut says:

SummerSlam is made to seem like a big deal to newer viewers though (and this release doesn’t seem to be catered to rabid collectors – we own all of this already anyway).

while WCW, to a younger audience, is likely a mere footnote.

  15. Ricardo Aguilera says:

Wow I think for the first time ever I’m going to have to say I’m skipping this one I have all those matches anyways already

    • whut says:

to be fair, what did you expect?

I mean, literally all the SummerSlam have been released before already. and of course with it being one of the “big 4”, the most essential matches have been put on other compilations as well.

  16. Justin says:

I feel like they skipped some matches from the 1990s. Can’t tell what matches they skipped over though.

    • RabidHeat says:

It is a shame that so many PPVs have gone unrecognised with the match selections, but at the same time they only have 3 discs and 9 hours of space, so you can’t have it all. Hopefully they fill in the blanks for the missing years in the Recaps.

      • Anan says:

True about the amount of discs and the obvious result of the amount being 3. But they could always if they chose to add a 4th disc or 4-5 discs. While this still won’t mean that every fan’s wishlists will be fully featured, more discs does mean more matches along with enticing more purchases which’ll mean better sales though that’ll depend on the content of the extra disc(s.)

        • RabidHeat says:

The problem is when they add a 4th or 5th disc, their production costs get higher, so they will only do it for a set that’s gonna be a hot seller, like Austin’s.

  17. David says:

Meh…pass. Nothing more than a cash grab. Why not at least have some sort of documentary like True Story of Wrestlemania and True Story of Royal Rumble.

    • RabidHeat says:

Yeah, we pretty much all thought the same thing about the Survivor Series set, but like you said, it’s a cash grab with minimal effort put in, so they don’t care. They’re targetting the non-collectors/casual fans who don’t own all the PPVs with this one.

      • Craig says:

I’m still going to buy it even though I have the summerslam anthology. I’m a collector. I don’t have some of the more recent summerslam matches like reigns vs joe vs Strowman vs lesnar.

  18. Paul says:

There’s nothing surprising in that listing. For me it’s missing Bret/Perfect from 1991, the Shawn/Razor Ladder Match from 1995 and the Edge/Undertaker HIAC Match from 2008. I’ve got a bit of a soft spot for the HHH/Rock/Angle Triple Threat from 2000 as well.

Given I’ve got all the Summerslams on DVD this isn’t an essential purchase for me but the collector in me will still pick this up at some point

  19. Nik says:

    Here is my Summerslam List:
    Summer Slam 1990:
The Hart Foundation vs. Demolition 2 out of 3 Falls
Rick Rude vs. The Ultimate Warrior Cage Match

    Summer Slam 1991:
Brett The Hit Man Hart vs. Mr. Perfect
The Legion of Doom vs. The Nasty Boys Tag Title

    Summer Slam 1995:
Shawn Michaels vs. Razor Ramon Ladder Match

    Summer slam 1997:
    Stone Cold vs. Owen Hart
    Brett Hart vs. The undertaker

    Summer Slam 1998:
    Stone Cold vs. The Undertaker

Those are some of the Matches that they are missing with this Blu-ray release that I think are good matches that need to be included.

  20. RabidHeat says:

Glad to see they’re filling up most of the disc space unlike the Survivor Series set, but I’m still not excited for this set in the slightest. Also, what is WWE’s obsession with that one-sided glorified squash match between Lesnar and Cena at Summerslam 2014? They included it in their ‘100 Greatest Matches’ book too. How on earth is it a match that they feel should be picked out for compilations?

    • David says:

Lesnar/Cena was garbage and amazes me that Dave “plans may change” Meltzer rated that crap 3.5 stars…just a one sided squash match that basically started the lazy Lesnar we have now with his suplex spams.

  21. Nik says:

Where is Brett Hart vs. Undertaker WWE Title Match from Summer Slam 1997. That was a Classic WWE Summerslam Match it should be on this Blu-ray.

  22. SRB says:

Interesting that we get the listing before getting the cover.

I’m gonna risk getting negative feedback here, but besides being the 30th Anniversary, what exactly is the point of this set? This seems like a very cheap cash-in and because I own all of these matches already, I can literally make this set at home for myself. This set seems like a pretty big waste. “Then don’t buy it!” Don’t worry, I won’t.

  23. meme says:

First! Surprised to see this so soon.
