I’m a huge fan of my friend Jerry the king lawler becuse I from his hometown memphis Tennesse
He is the greast wrestler of all time he won more title then any wwe wrestler I’m going get his new dvd it good to be king the Jerry lawler story it going be number 1 dvd better then Paul heyman dvd
As I prepared to read the match listing, I hoped for a few specific matches to be included. I’m very happy to see that the 1982 bout with Ric Flair is one of them. I will no doubt buy the Blu-ray. However, to not include Lawler’s AWA World Title win from Curt Hennig, his SuperClash III bout with Kerry Von Erich, one of his many encounters with Nick Bockwinkle, and more of his feud with Eddie Gilbert (like Eddie running Lawler over or trading fireballs), and/or his fued with Tommy Rich/Austin Idol is a huge disappointment.
Theres a mid south colosium featurette??? Score!
Guessing the King vs King story as part of the blu ray excusives will cover his feud with Bret Hart from 1993?
With a 1 hour, 25 minute doc, it doesn’t leave much room for details, especially when you consider how long Jerry’s career has been spanning. What is on the set does look to be (mostly) good and worthy from where I sit.
I do wish they dedicated a doc chapter to his heel persona in the WWF where he antagonized the crowd and the faces and cheered the bad guys, kissing up to Vince, etc. And another to his love for “puppies”. Some nice extras that would have been nice to accompany his heel persona in WWF would be:
Trying to get out of his match with Bret Hart by coming out on crutches and telling the audience why he was “injured”- Summerslam 1993
Ripping on the crowd – King of The Ring 1996
– Getting Al Snow to sign a contract for a tag team match against Too Much at King of The Ring – RAW, (forgot the date) 1998. This is where Al Snow dressed up as an old lady and questioned Jerry as to whether Brian Christopher was really his son or not.
Surprised they didn’t put a match against Bockwinkel on this set. They showed at least one on 24/7.
Doc portion doesn’t seem very detailed when it comes to his greatest feuds, which was the same problem with the Savage one.
I’ll still pick up at some point, just not a first day buy.
I’m torn whether I should get this or just wait for it to become dirt cheap. I love the pre WWE matches on it but did WWE have to add the crap matches he had with Roddy Piper, Jake Roberts, Bret Hart, Miz and Michael Cole? Would’ve preferred to see his match with Ultimate Warrior over the Piper or Roberts match.
I hope there’s a reason why his hair vs hair cage match with Tommy Rich & Austin Idol wasn’t featured.
Isn’t WWE in talks to attain the Memphis Wrestling library from Jerry Lawler or whomever else might be holding the rights to them?
I expected a chapter with title like “Puppies” or so… on the other hand, we’re in the Ultra-PG era…thats NOT P for Puppies.. hopefully, the puppies are somewhere in the Announcement chapter, or so..
Other than that + the Cole feud, everything else looks very interesting.. in my book, it will likely not beat the Heyman release from last year, but hardly anything can.. still a great concept..
How in the world can they release a Lawler DVD and NOT include matches on the Tommy Rich/Austin Idol/Lawler 1987 rivalry? That’s a complete joke. It may have been one of the hottest angles Memphis ever had.
NO tag team matches from Lawler & Superstar Bill Dundee as a tag team? They were one of the most popular teams when they worked together. That’s surprising.
No Lawler/Randy Savage matches from Memphis? Wow.
wwe might not have the rights for the matches you mention..
I’ve never really been a Lawler fan, but this is packed with footage and lots of gems. Can’t wait for the documentary.
Jerry Lawler’s WWE Debut
Prime Time Wrestling • December 7, 1982
I think that’s a typo and should be December 7, 1992 given how the CD is presented in chronological order
