the only problem is when they edit swear words, they need an option for uncensored language. it’s not like kids are buying these dvds.
looks good
i wish wwe got the memphis footage for all these guys. undertaker is def gona need it for his dvd. heart punch baby
Not really that interested in this DVD. May get it to complete the collection once I find it secondhand. Think he’s over-rated myself. Take that ECW run out, and there isn’t much to Heyman.
Isn’t that like saying “take out Steve Austin’s WWF Attitude Era run and there’s not much to him” or “Take out The Undertaker’s run as the dead man, there’s not much to him”? You can’t take away a chunk of someone’s career and THEN say they didn’t do much.
Even without ECW, Heyman began as a ringside photographer, drove Freddie Blassie, became a top heel in a Memphis by shaving Lawler’s head, became one of arguably the greatest managers ever in AWA/WCW, became an incredible commentator, wrote the best and most interesting period in SmackDown’s history, then came back after a 5 year absence to reclaim his title as the best promo in the biz. – but that’s just my opinion.
Alot of websites and a lot of people are making it sound like this DVD geared more towards his promo and managerial work on screen. Judging by the DVD and the Blu-Ray release synopsis, it definately is.
I’ll put it to you like this, I just don’t find his promo work all that great, and I believe especially post-2001, a touch over-rated as I believe since then, he’s simply ridden on the back of his ECW success, thus making Paul Heyman the person, more popular.
I wonder how a DVD release would go if there was one on say, Jim Cornette? People MAY argue that his promo work wasn’t as good as Heyman’s, but I didn’t mind his promo or ringside work. He’d have some stories too
The primary difference between Paul Heyman and Jim Cornette (let me clarify this, I’m a huge Corney fan) is that Cornette has had his story out in the world. He has done countless shoot interviews etc, Heyman has never done those and infact seldom talks about his career publicly. That for me (and I suspect a great number of fans) is the true draw of this DVD, wether it will be the true story or even the 2014 version of the truth remains to be seen.
In terms of the actual content, personally I would much rather see his best “work” featured and honestly (no disrespect intended) that isn’t his in ring work, it’s his mic work.
Finally I can’t disagree more about Paul riding ECW’s coat-tails, in fact I would go so far as to say he has distanced himself from ECW over the past 3 years. He never brings it up, nor does WWE.
Come on WWE! stop wasting time with all these boring ecw type dvds and release some more bret hart, ric flair, jericho sets…
After how badly the last Bret Hart set sold, I doubt we’ll see another one for a very long time (if ever).
Extras I’d include:
Lesnar vs. Punk
Lesnar & Heyman vs. Edge
Brock Lesnar is the 1
Lesnar vs. HHH I or III
Lesnar vs. Taker HIAC
This release looks top-notch but I can’t believe the “Brock Lesnar is the One” promo after Wrestlemania doesn’t close the show. I really hope it will be a blu-ray bonus but still, this promo is must no matter the format.
I hope blu-ray exclusives will have snippets of great moments / reactions like the “OH MY GOD !! OH MY GOD !!” from Wrestlemania or “Oh my God you broke his arm !” with Lesnar/Michaels from 2012.
This looks great, could listen to Heyman talk for hours.
After listening to Austin’s Podcast with Heyman, I really wanted to hear more. The guy is definitely a creative genius.
I could see the Blu-ray exclusives being Punk vs. Lesnar from SSlam or Lesnar vs. Taker from WM30 and his promos about Lesnar conquering the streak. Surprised they’re including the NoC 2013 match, but i guess they are since Heyman was the one that pinned Punk.
Yes! WWE didn’t forget CM Punk existed.
This looks like an amazing release! Definitely will be at the top of my list of DVDs to pick up!!
I know I’m totally alone here, but I’m extremely not interested in this release and am not excited about it at all. I know Heyman has contributed so much to the business and that he is a historical wrestling figure, but something about this release comes off as boring to me. I’m not a big Heyman fan to begin with and because I always saw him as a manger, promoter, and owner, pretty much everything but an on screen competitor, I can see myself buying this strictly for the documentary. However, usually my opinions of performers change once they get releases, which is what happened with Punk.
I’m a big fan of Heyman’s, but still not really excited about this. The documentary will likely be excellent, but six hours of promos doesn’t really excite me. I’d rather have an hour of bonus documentary footage, like on CM Punk’s set.
I’m w/you, this seems extremely boring. I used to like him during his WCW days when he was Paul E Dangerously, but having a full 3 disc set seems completely unnecessary. I was yawning just looking at the listing of the content on the DVD’s. I’m completely baffled as to why anybody would want a 3 disc set about this guy.
Can’t believe the Jericho/Kane vs. Storm/Awesome match from the 7/9/01 Raw isn’t included. If it’s not on the Blu-Ray extras, I’ll probably pass.
Hopefully they put Heyman’s Promo from the night after Wrestlemania 30 on the Blu Ray.
Can this and the Batista DVD switch release dates?
A pass for me..
The rise and fall of ecw wasn’t that great either. Might get it if it goes cheap just to complete my collection
“The rise and fall of ecw wasn’t that great either.”
What planet are you on?
Did I just read you saying “The Rise and Fall of ECW” wasn’t great? It’s probably my favorite wrestling documentary.
…Rise + Fall of ECW is “the greatest WWE DVD” as voted by WDN readers (http://www.wrestlingdvdnews.com/march-mania-tournament-final-result/63426/)
That maybe so, but are you implying that i’m not entitled to my own opinion?
I implied no such thing. I simply added a comment to the string of comments regarding The Rise and Fall of ECW. Actually, if you look my reply was to “Chargebeam”.
Since “Rise & Fall of ECW” is one of the best selling WWE DVDs of all time, “cheap” second-hand copies are fairly easy to come by.
I would’ve liked to see his Tuxedo Match with Jim Cornette. It was hilarious!
Looks like they left a little something out… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Na1lkwHniKc
I think this is DVD of the year, it’s going to be amazing. We need the cover art now. As for Punk, I’m pretty sure that he has been interviewed for the Documentary as he is very good friends with Heyman, as Heyman was about the only person that believed that he could succeed in WWE.
This is going to be fantastic. I mean, I figured that there would be little to no matches, but I could listen to Paul Heyman promos over a 10 disc set. Fantastic set. The 3/3/14 Paul Heyman Pipe Bomb in Chicago where he teases Punk was awesome and I’m glad to have that.
This looks insane. I can’t f**kin wait!!
Less matches, more promos. But to be fare, he’s a non-wrestler after all.
*fair*
Awesome…even better picked up Summer Slam Anthology 1 & 2 for buy one get one 50% off at FYE. Right now they are retail at $9.99 so I got both for $15. Plus $1.50 off to sign up for there program that I canceled so $13.50 for 10 dvds…I don’t think it will be cheaper than that ever. Less than $1.25 per DVD a piece. They had all Summer Slam Anthologies and Royal Rumbles for $9.99. Enjoy:)
Interesting that CM Punk is featured on this DVD. One of the segments on this DVD is the “Paul Heyman Trolls the Chicago Crowd” segment from the March 3rd #HijackRAW episode.
Epic!!! I wonder what the blu-ray extras will be? I hope they cover the whole December to Dismember fiasco and get the insights of Heyman, McMahon, RVD and Show. Getting the blu-ray version! Can’t wait. This and United We Slam are the two I’ve been wanting since they were confirmed. I also wonder who they all interviewed for this.
Well as JR would say business just picked up!
Epic, gotta get this.
