Some how I thought I got Sting – Into the light early this weekend
But I see that it came out last tuesday Oct 6 in canada. But my local
Wal-mart had 7 copies and I got the best one or it arrived where I live
abit late then the original release date it was like that last year with
the best of Sting.
Who’s ready to see another Sting set come out in 2016!
Very unlikely it will happen since 3 has already been released and that is more than enough
Who said 3 are already released.it’s two only under wwe.there is scope of one more.
Wwe won’t do one until 2017 and that’s if we are lucky…
I’m getting this DVD via eBay and one match that stands out to me is the one vs Bret Hart. I do not have this match on anything I have.
Nice set. Already preordered it prior to reading the full contents. That said, there’s some things missing that I wish were here. But it’s a long list because when I first heard about a Sting set, I made a wishlist of what I wanted to be on there. I’ll just state some things from that list:
October 21 1996 – Sting takes out Fake Sting and talks his last words “The real Sting may or may not be in your price range. The only thing that’s for sure abut Sting is nothin’s for sure.”
November 11 1996 – Sting watches as Jeff Jarrett says Sting “fumbled the ball at Fall Brawl.”
The Sting Army segment – I think this was in 1997
Sting Hits The Death Drop On Fake Sting (this was when The Steiners called Sting out, but two Sting’s came through the crowd with the fake one chewing gum.”
Sting vs Rick Steiner – December 1996
WCW Title Vacated – Sting gives the WCW Title to Dillion on the Thunder episode after Starrcade and speaks for the first time in over a year saying “You’ve got no guts. And you, you’re a deadman.”
WWE:
A Look At Sting – Great video package where various talent comment on Sting
Michael Cole interviews Michael Hayes and Arn Andersen about Sting.
Sting helps Orton and does a Network Exclusive interview
Sting interview about his future the night after WM31.
I know Sting’s a private man. Bu it’d have been nice if it touched on his life before he got into wrestling (the usual growing up chapter) and outside the ring (being Christian in 98, whether he intended to stay retired after WCW ended, his family, etc)
I was expecting the half of the set to be matches with just Flair, lol. They should’ve included his Superbrawl II match against Luger though.
If they ever do another Rivalries set like Bret vs HBK, then Sting vs Flair would definitely work. That Bret vs HBK set IMO would not be as great as it was not the interview not been done with both men and would’ve been even less had the interview not been done at all.
Sting and Flair are currently still alive and as far as I know on good terms with WWE. It’s a shame WWE isn’t likely to call JR for the interview as he was there commentating when Sting became a star in the industry the night Flair made him one. Then again, they might make an exception for this one if the set is ever released.
With all the great rivalries, it’s a shame there’s been no set on one after Bret vs HBK or no new episode of WWE Rivalries or WM Rewind for that matter in seemingly forever.
This looks like a really good set about Sting. Unfortunately, because my DVD collection is big, I already have a lot of the matches on other sets. I will get this one eventually, but unlike Sting’s first collection (that I bought straight away), I am a little disappointed.
A good job, but could have been a lot better.
I see 5 repeats: VS Flair (BEST OF CLASH), VS Goldberg (GOLDBERG), VS DDP (Best of Nitro vol 1), VS The Giant (nWo), w/Dusty VS Anderson/Blanchard (BEST OF CLASH). Am I missing any? Still, I think it will be a good buy!
The ones that are really complaining about repeats are the people that buy every single DVD and Blu-ray with a WWE logo stamped. This sort of DVD/Blu-ray main selling point is the documentary and the matches are supplementary and/or bonuses. If people want unreleased Sting matches get the first set. I think this and the first one go well together.
Valid point. A lot of times, though not always, the documentary is the main selling point for me. And I’m for sure not the only one as the same can be said for many.
Agree 100% with you. WWE is pretty good at making multiple sets of a wrestler combine into one giant narrative of their career. I felt the same of the Mick Foley sets. I also felt WWE 50 and The Best of Madison Square Garden went together nicely.
There’s no chance of these Hogan matches announced for upcoming DVDs are going to be pulled are there? I hope not, I mean I get not releasing a feature on him, but for historical reasons I hope his matches are okay to be buried away on these releases.
For a legend with nearly 30 years to his name, the match selection is p*ss poor. I’m deeply offended that the match choice are mostly repeats or matches that aren’t properly thought out.
NOT BUYING.
I get why some repeats have to be on this. Sting vs. Flair from the Clash for example, but Sting vs. The Giant is on the NWO DVD, and honestly…. it’s not a good match. But I know why it’s there, because The Giant is The Big Show and he is a WWE guy so he makes the cut.
It’s too bad that Eddie Guerrero never worked Sting, because you know if he did it would have to make the cut too! *sigh*
Matches I would have liked on here are…
vs. Luger SuperBrawl 2 (with Ventura commentary)
War Games Wrestle War 92 (with Ventura commentary)
vs. Vader SuperBrawl 3 (with Ventura commentary)
vs. Harlem Heat (Lex and Sting win the WCW Tag Titles on Nitro 1996)
I will still get this DVD set though, but the matches just don’t seem that great.
The first time I read these chapters in an earlier column I thought they were WWE errors but again I see chapters like community relations, consumer products, digital media, and executive management. I am curious to see what those are all about on a Sting career bio.
I’m assuming the doc will go back and forth between Sting’s career and him meeting with WWE, going to different parts of their headquarters, seeing the merch ideas they had, sitting down with Vince and Tripl H, etc.
I’m gonna pre-order it on blu ray today.
Am I reading right that there aren’t blu-ray exclusive stories? That is my favorite part of blu-ray releases.
It looks good to me. Whether it has a lot of repeats or not, it still looks like it’s going to be a good set. I’m going to pick up a copy. I’m a very big fan of Sting.
I hate the fact they put vs vader from slamboree instead of the not yet realese superbrawl strap match ..i feel they are acting lazy ..and why no lex from brawl 2 ?!!!
Good listing. Although, I’m hoping for a volume 2 of WCW’s Greatest PPV Matches which would include his Superbrawl matches against Lex Luger and Big Van Vader.
A lot of repeats…but when put together with the best of Sting from last year…makes for a pretty good career retrospective…still gonna be a blu ray first day purchase…cuz it’s Sting!
Are you kidding? Correct me if im wrong but this must be one of the releases with the most repeats EVER!
Top 25 Rivalries had only 2 new matches out of over 20.
Yup, Top 25 Rivalries has to be the most disappointing release so far, I waited until Top 25 Rivalries was on sale for $10 to get it because that is what it is worth due to the amount of repeats and only 2 new matches on the set
