Mark’s Fantasy WWE DVD Concept #6 – Best of WCW Nitro Vol. 2

February 15, 2012 by Mark D

WDN Fantasy Concept

Following the success of last year’s Very Best of WCW Nitro DVD and the comments by host Diamond Dallas Page in the closing segment of that set, I thought we should see how Volume 2 would look with the latest “fantasy concept“…

WWE: The Very Best of WCW Monday Nitro Vol. 2.

As Nitro clocked up almost 300 episodes, there is easily another 2, 3 or 4 volumes which could be done in this series. I’m sure everyone would agree that DDP should return as the host and the set should follow the same format as the initial release. Hey Volume 2 should even have a F.Y.E exclusive (with a few more extras this time!).

It’s great to hear your feedback, so please sound off in the comments below!

Does this proposed WWE DVD interest you?

I hope to bring you more fantasy concept DVD sets in the coming weeks and months – so stay tuned to the site.

You can follow me on Twitter: @_MarkD_. I’m also looking for suggestions for future concepts.

Loved the dvd, although I like your cover a lot better than Vol. 2, lol. Keep it up Mark, you’re a genius! 🙂

  2. lee sheard says:

lived through the friday night wars back when itwa shown on sky sports and TNT on friday nights. I think TNT also showed Thunder right after Nitro aired. Missed a year when we switched from analog to digital.then started watching Nitro again when they showed it on Bravo. Also watched wcw when it was shown on itv on saturday afternoons. Loved the firt volume looking forward to volume 2 🙂

  3. Abel Gutierrez says:

Bring it! I want to purchase Volume 2 with a BANG!!

  4. Miz4life says:

Have The Great Nitro Brawl from 6/9/97. Everyone beath the shit out of eachother.

  5. Anan says:

DDP was a great host. But I think we should get different hosts for different sets or have someone joining DDP. For the very last volume, I’d personally want Sting to host as he was in WCW from beginning to end. He’s seen as The Face Of WCW. But JR’s also been a part of WCW so he, too would be a great host.

  6. sean says:

love th eidea and cover art, but they missed most of my favorite moments in the first one, i really wanted to see the match that i saw when i was 4 years old that made me a fan for life, in the macho man vs hogan in hogans comeback in 99 on nitro, and wantedt to see more sting stuff

  7. Matthew Swanson says:

i hope this idea becomes a reality heck ya and has all the matches that mark listed on it. i think wwe should ok this dvd set to be released as well.

  8. Matt says:

U kiddin’?!!! I would love 2 add this along with the best of the clash and the war games dvd-if wwe decides 2 make it 2 my selection!!! The first was awesome…the second may very well be even better!!!

  9. Matthew Swanson says:

im for it i loved the first one

  10. HHHfan1999 says:

Wow! They need to do this as soon as possible! You’re right there is at least another 2 volumes to be done!

  11. frank d says:

wow i love the first nitro set i hope they come out with this soon thank you wwe.

  12. Zach V says:

i dont think its that wwe releases dont excite us i think its just that all the releases have matches that appear on other wwe dvds ad thats y they suk

  13. WWEFanDerrick1984 says:

I love this. In fact, this has to be one of my favorite concept DVD cover art. WWE Home Video needs to step up and put together a second helping of the best moments in the history of WCW Monday Nitro. This would be a wonderful companion to “The Very Best of WCW Monday Nitro”.

    love it def buy it

  15. NWO 4 Life says:

A NWO set would be great and maybe a best of NWO Souled Out, I always loved the NWO promo on Roddy Piper get the point Pipper, where NWO was beating the crap out of him like Deadpool would a thug.

  16. SRB says:

@Vincenzzzzzo. I’m with you. I’ll be honest, I never watched WCW growing up. I went to some live stuff when Luger was main eventing in the 80’s but that was about it. When the Monday Night Wars were full on WCW was cheap nonsense who kept taking stabs at WWE. I said to myself back then WCW is going to go belly up, rather than focusing on their own product you’ve got Bischoff challenging Vince on TV and giving away WWF match finishes. I saw them as a low shot taking company who plays dirty. I did like all of the guys on there though from when I was little who used to be on WWF TV (Hogan, Savage, Warrior, Piper, Flair, Hart, Outsiders) but the product came off as just weird. WWE was the superior choice. My favorite time in wrestling to this day, even more than the attitude era was the WCW purchase and then when the NWO was brought in at No Way Out. Classic promo from Vince “I’m gonna kill my creation… Me… and the N…W…O….” Still my favorite wrestling promo to date. When WCW ended I was determined to see why they beat WWF in the ratings war week after week.

@Simon. To each their own. But I was never an all out Austin fan as I know most people are. The Montreal Screwjob of 1997 is one of the most popular happenings in wrestling history that still gets attention today as if it happened yesterday and if you saw what I saw on HBK/Bret you would have seen how much it STILL bothers Bret today. That says so much about him and what happened at Survivor Series. I didn’t see that much emotion in Austin’s set. The greatest rivalries set was a landmark and changed DVDs and was so successful that’s why everyone wants to see one on Austin/Rock. It’s a rare form when we get to see these guys sit down and discuss their lives. WWE is smart, they pretty much banked off of the shoot interview concept. Austin’s DVD came and went because it lacked matches, had countless repeats and the documentary is easily forgettable. No disrespect to Austin or anyone who is an Austin fan, the man changed wrestling forever, but when it comes to storytelling and professionalism I’ll take Bret and HBK’s opinions any day.

A bonus disc featuring the complete first and last episodes of Nitro would be a great addition.

  18. MadMike says:

    Great artwork!!!

  19. Mark D says:

@Brad Attitude I wondered if anyone would notice that classic match up 😀 LOL

  20. scott hall sucks says:

what about that nitro match that pitted kevin nash and scott hall against the two pornstar chicks??? now that was a match LOL

  21. Andy B. says:

I definitely would love to see another best of Nitro dvd set. As well, a good nWo set would be awesome too. I buy pretty any WCW related dvd set.

  22. Brad Attitude says:

that’s an awesome cover design, but judging by the title and some of the matches listed on the back, how the hell is Booker T. vs. Vince Russo a “best of monday nitro” match?

i would like to see these matches/segments on the next nitro dvd:

sting vs. ric flair (from the first monday nitro)
world title match: booker t vs scott steiner vs. mike awesome (2000)
fit finlay gives brian knobs a haircut
united states title match: scott hall vs. sid vicious (1999)
goldberg (and sid) vs. kevin nash (and scott hall) (1999)
eddie guerrero vs. alex wright (1998)
united states title match: raven vs. goldberg (1998)
randy savage vs. “la parka” (1997)
    ddp vs. curt hennig (1997)
sting and lex luger vs. harlem heat (1996)

Instead of a best of Nitro they should release a box set of all of the Nitro’s. They need to start releaseing WCW PPV’s instead of the these Best of DVD sets cause they leave out alot of good matches.I don’t understand why they don’t release lot of WCW stuff they are a hell of a lot better than the product WWE is putting out today

  24. Anonymous says:

WCW has a great back catalogue if WWE ever decides to actually exploit it! They’ve started by giving us the yearly dose…but, I think they could potentially release 2-3 WCW themed DVD’s per yr for, say the next 2-3yrs. Nitro Vol. 2, I think is one that will happen…at least eventually, I heard a stat that it sold the most units since WM 23. The Clash of the Champions set will be prob. the best compilation set this yr. I hope WWE decides to do other WCW themed DVDs, like History of the US Championship (4 Disc – DOC/NWA/WCW/WWE), PPV Anthologies (or at least best ofs for the big 4 – Fall Brawl, Halloween Havoc, Starrcade Vol. 2 & SuperBrawl), Best of Thunder & Saturday Night would be great just for the gems and the fact they could prob hold 30-35+ matches ea. considering match length would avg. about 10mins for ea. show. I agree w/ SRB that its sad how excited I get for WCW DVDs.

  25. Anonymous says:

Nah, the Austin doc seriously sucked, the first hour was wonderful (but most of the info had been covered on the Legacy of Stone Cold) but once it hit all of the “what” crap it really went down hill.

On the other hand I actually fucking cried during the Shawn/Bret sit-down.

Some posters on here need to get their heads out of their asses. WWE DVDs are really sucking right now. Look at the quality of the titles released between 04-08 compared to the last couple of years, it’s like night and day. The worst part is that the WWE doesn’t give a crap.

  26. Simon says:

@SRB: Did you not see the Steve Austin documentary? I personally found that ten times more compelling than that Michaels/Hart documentary, in which they revealed virtually nothing.

  27. Vincenzzzzzo says:

    @SRB

Its funny because during the monday night wars and , even before, I never watched WCW on a regular basis. They were always the “enemy” to me, lol.

But, since they closed I actually became a fan of watching all that stuff. I don’t think WWE will ever release a “Best Of” on the WCW pay-per-views, but I can see them doing a Thunder DVD set and another Nitro eventually. An nWo DVD set HAS to be made. A complete documentary included too.

And I’ve said this countless times before, but, WWE HAS to make “Greatest Rivalries: The Monday Night Wars -WWE vs WCW”. Has to happen. It just has that feel of the Bret/Shawn set, mostly because the hatred was as real as it gets. Without Eric Bischoff though, it can’t be done. Eric and Vince HAVE to go face to face with Good Ole JR.

  28. SRB says:

It’s sad news for WWE when I personally prefer WCW releases over WWE ones. Last year the Nitro set along with HBK/Bret were the releases of the year, easily. Not many WWE releases have excited me as of late because they fail at pulling real gems from the vault in and giving us rare stuff like they used to. Thats why fans, like me go crazy when a WCW DVD is released, it’s because the footage has never been released on DVD and it’s rare. WWE really digs deep and for the most part fans are happy because it’s the 1st time the footage has gone to DVD. For all of 2012 WWE could release 1 WCW DVD each month and would make a killing. Best of Nitro 2, Best of Thunder, Best of Great American Bash, Halloween Havoc, WW3, Clash of the Champs, WCW in Japan, another Starrcade, Crockett, another NWO, Monday Night Wars complete, and a cruiserweight DVD. I’d buy every single one if they all had the WCW logo on them.

  29. Sam d says:

Best of thunder will be cool

  30. Anonymous says:

    Incredibly unoriginal.

  31. Vincenzzzzzo says:

I think this is the best cover yet. I’m likin’ it. Nicely done.

I hope WWE continues with the Best of Nitro series. I very much enjoy the WCW releases for some reason. I can’t wait to see them on blu-ray.

  32. SRB says:

Does this proposed WWE DVD interest you?…. Ummmm YES!
