  1. Damian boyce says:

Oh dear. What could and should have been a brilliant DvD, sadly disappoints. The first disk is decent enough. Sadly the second disk is just all talk. The Pipers Pit’s are just dull, poor time fillers. Surely there must have been countless dark Piper matches in the WWE archive that could be used. A missed and wasted opportunity. 5 out of 10

  2. James says:

I’m ordering it from Walmart and I like the match listing. I never knew that he had a match against Randy Savage.

  3. thomas cianci says:

hello everyone. i know i’m a little late but WHY does amazon.com have this DVD listed as a Pre-Order coming out in march 2020? isn’t it already available & has been since august or so? is amazon out of stock & replenishing it next year or is it a typo? can anyone fill me in on this? thank you.

  4. Josh CW says:

Ok on the dvd & I met him about 2 years before he pass away & they should do A Ric Flair & Sting dvd just like the way Bret Hart & Shawn Michaels dvd was .

  5. Steve Gennarelli says:

Too bad they couldn’t find another Piper vs. Bruno match out there…But the ones they did in Boston and Philly are already out and available on YouTube. Wish they had taped one of the matches like at the Meadowlands which was a true bloodbath

    • James Kirby says:

The Bruno piper matches are on the network

    • Gary Wagner says:

I was there at the Meadowlands. What a great night. What a great card. ‘Adorable’ Adrian Adonis made his debut against Lanny Poffo. Andre wrestled Bundy and Heenan. And Bruno wrestled Piper like it was 1976.

  6. Damian Ray says:

Looks like I’ll be passing on this as well.

  7. John says:

This set is brutal. Maybe 2-3 matches that haven’t actually been released elsewhere. Hard pass.

  8. Timothy Thorpe says:

Sorry for being off topic here, but the Money in the Bank 19 dvd came today for me and the special features are as follows: Disc one has the kickoff match and disc two has three Raw and Smackdown features: Becky two belts signs two contracts (Raw, 5-13-19), Guest host for the Kevin Owens show (SD, 5-14-19), and The “Beast in the Bank is here! (Raw, 5-20-19).

  9. For-kee says:

    Pretty decent lineup

  10. whut says:

I think they did a good job considering the limitations of this set. personally I don’t mind a few less matches and more Piper’s Pits and other interview segments, since for most of his career Piper was less of a “workrate” and more of a “promo” guy anyway.

  11. Adam stewkaskoi says:

Hogan and savage wcw nitro matches, let me guess they wrestle under five minutes and it gets thrown out? Decent set, wish there was more matches. The sonny beach match is weird unless there was an angle at the end

  12. Alex says:

Might have to pass on this one but I’m not sure yet.I wonder when WWE is gonna release their first ever 4K bluray disc?? WrestleMania 35 would’ve been awesome in that format

    • LP1 says:

Zero chance of that. They barely even release blu-rays anymore. No way are they gonna keep up with the times and move forward to 4K releases. Don’t get me wrong, I would love it, but all signs point to it not happening.

    • RabidHeat says:

I’m not sure I could ever describe WrestleMania 35 as “awesome” no matter what format it was released on, but oh well, lol.

    • whut says:

considering they are even phasing out regular blurays? probably never.

  13. Ricardo Aguilera says:

Decent DVD can’t wait to get it

  14. Mike y says:

It would be cool to see all the Piper / Hogan matches in the early 80’s besides the MTV event. I think they had like 6 to 8 more matches around that time.

  15. RabidHeat says:

I don’t really have an issue with the content as I reckon the Piper’s Pits will be more entertaining than the matches, to be fair. But I do believe the title should have been: ‘Getting Rowdy: Roddy Piper Unreleased’ as opposed to including the word ‘Matches’, given that like half the content isn’t matches at all. Bit misleading.

    • RabidHeat says:

Ironically Shawn Michaels’ set was all matches and that didn’t have ‘matches’ in the title! Same for Hogan, pretty much.

  16. AK says:

I assume those Action Figure commercials are those old 80s Hasbro toy lines. These heavily featured Piper before the 1992 version was heavily featured by Randy Savage though both versions also featured some other superstars of those respective years. Piper did one on the talking Warrior and Hogan, that vintage blue ring, and some tag team figures. I already wanted em but just watching the commercials made me want em even more!

  17. SRB says:

How about they remove the Rousey interview and add another Piper match?

    • AK says:

On one hand I agree w/you. On the other hand she looked up to him so much that like him she had Rowdy in her wrestling stage name. If they really did remove her interview, can you come up with anything specific to put in place of that interview? Any unreleased matches that aren’t already listed to be on the set? I’m just curious is all.

    • LP1 says:

No reason to remove the Ronda interview. Piper himself passed the Rowdy name to her personally when she started in MMA. He also gave her one of his actual leather jackets that he used to wear to the ring, and she ended up wearing it in WWE. She became a friend of the family. Roddy really liked her. In a lot of ways she carried on his legacy and he approved of it.

      • AK says:

Wow! Thanks for sharing. Didn’t know their history was on that level. But they could’ve had that interview w/Rousey on a set focusing on her which is probably bound to happen at some point. Just my opinion.

  18. meme says:

I like the Wrestling Challenge matches. That’s good that they are looking into that part of their archive.

  19. BAS says:

As much as I would’ve liked this to be 3 discs, they did manage to squeeze a fair amount of content on 2 discs so I’m okay with that.

  20. Anthony says:

So what are the dark matches???

    • RCS1988 says:

Piper vs. Perfect from 11/20/90 Challenge taping and Pit with Brawler from Superstars taping 4/29/92. I’m hoping the 2nd Piper Perfect match is actually Piper Dibiase from 2/19/91 Challenge taping, but it’s probably Piper Perfect from the 2/18/91 Superstars taping that aired on the Coliseum Video 2nd Battle of the WWF Superstars

  21. Anonymous says:

I get that it’s technically “unreleased” but putting stuff from Nitro/Raw/SD/etc. that’s easily accessible through the network always feels lazy to me. I’d rather see these be more like the Hidden Gems uploaded to the Network where it’s stuff most people haven’t seen instead of things like the goofy Alcatraz segment or Piper’s Pits that aired on worldwide television in the last decade.

  22. meme says:

This is one heck of a compilation!

  23. David says:

The unreleased series were the only sets I would consider purchasing like 1985-1995, Shawn Michaels, and Randy Savage but WWE went ahead and ruined this series too just by cutting it down to 2 disc and overlooking a lot of footage. Looking at the listing this a hard pass. WWE should just end DVDs already, clearly no effort is being made and only being released to satisfy Warner’s contract of releasing a number of DVDs per year and the small segment of sheep that accept mediocrity buying every DVD with a WWE logo slapped on, no matter now garbage the release is. People buying lacklustre sets like this just gives WWE the message they are doing an excellent job and will continue with mediocrity until people actually don’t accept their crap on a platter which forces them to at least change and make effort.

  24. LP1 says:

The real question is what does Joe think about this?! Lol

  25. Ryan says:

Other than a couple matches against Rick Rude, Rick Martel and Mr. Perfect there isn’t much to see here. Half the matches were televised already. Hard Pass.

  26. RCS1988 says:

This is the other stuff they could have put on there.

      • AK says:

@RCS1988 and ClassicFan: dope match listings u guys! perhaps on a future Unreleased set these matches will see the light of day.

  27. Zac says:

This was one when announced I was like, Im buying this, but upon reading the match listings im unimpressed. Alot of the “Unreleased” matches have been released.
Will wait a few years for it to be cheap

  28. mike ford says:

Disappointed that some of his mid-80’s IC matches (Toronto, 1986) vs. Savage and Hogan matches (Boston, 1984) were not included, and a lot of TV enhancement matches made the cut. That said, this is still a must have for me.

    • Patrick Mcnamara says:

I completely agree. I totally love Rowdy RODDY Piper. He was the rebel before Stonecold Steve Austin. I’m so happy that even though it’s two discs, we get the maximum amount we can get on those two discs. August 27th can’t come soon enough. So excited for this release. I love that it spans from 1981 till 2014. So very cool. I loved that Piper’s Pit with The Shield. I really liked how he respected them but he was still RODDY Piper even in 2014. Good TV. Piper is missed if he was still alive today I think he would be an excellent GM of either Raw or SD live. Imagine him doing Piper’s Pit as GM. Sitting up matches and interviewing guys on his roster. I mean that would be cool.

  29. RCS1988 says:

I think they got some of the dates screwed up. There was no Piper Perfect match on March 19, 1991, unless it’s actually the February 18, 1991 match that aired on CV or it’s actually Piper vs. Ted Dibiase from February 19, 1991. Piper vs. Fuji is November 1, 1986. Good that they are showing Piper vs. Perfect from November 20, 1990 and disappointed no Piper’s Pit with Bob Backlund from February 1984.

  30. Wrestlevessel says:

Will Best Buy sell this DVD? I have a gift card there.

  31. Donny Markiewicz says:

Totally disappointed.I was really hoping for more of his 86-87 stuff when he bacame a huge babyface. All we get is a 3 min TV match against Mr. Fuji? Not happy

  32. D.P. says:

Too many interviews & Pits yet no match with Flair?.

  33. Joe says:

Wow! Disappointed! Piper vs Orndorff at MD is cool. What about vs, Muraco (Superstars-dark match)? Piper vs. Adonis (Superstars, Toronto?) HELLO??????? They basically skipped over the bulk of Piper’s 85-87 years. You biffed it WWE!

  34. Patrick Mcnamara says:

I totally want this. I am digging this collection. Can’t wait to add to it to my vast wwe library. August 27th,perfect perfect release date.

    • David says:

I’m sure WWE loves you for that, buying their lacklustre DVDs and accepting their garbage product.

      • Jon says:

And I’m sure the internet loves you for being such a brave soul and speaking up! (End sarcasm). We get it you don’t like the release, others do. Now get over yourself, you’re not that important.

      • Patrick Mcnamara says:

You are just mad because CM Punk never will come back. Lol. No seriously though, I can’t believe “fans” like you exist. I’m grateful for whatever I get. Life is too short to gripe over every little thing.

  35. Nick says:

    What the hell is this?
Not one Flair match, totally skipped 83/84 mid atlantic, no 70s matches, Too many segments & jobber matches. They must have better stuff than this in the vault, I guess they are saving it for the network. It’s a pass for me.

    • Patrick Mcnamara says:

I mean it’s actually pretty good. I wanted that Piper’s Pit with the Shield. And the handicap match against The ORTONs holy crap. I want this. A match with Jay Youngblood, Matches from all around. I know some epic matches are missing. Like you said they gotta release these and still have the network.

    • Mike Poulin says:

I’m sure a lot of the 70’s stuff can’t be restored to HD quality, and there’s some 84 stuff there I am kind of surprised that no Flair matches from the WWF 1991 run made the cut but how many of them were there actually that weren’t from House Shows.

    • Bubbs says:

What do you expect, its only a 2 DVD set. Maybe if they added a 3rd DVD but that would be unthinkable!
