Latest on Mick Foley’s 2013 WWE DVD, Greatest Rivalries DVD

October 20, 2012 by Mark D

– Over the past week more details about who will be featured on Mick Foley’s 2013 WWE DVD came to light. First Big Van Vader posted on his Twitter account that he had just completed a visit to the WWE Production Studio to record footage for the project.

@itsvadertime
Just finished up a very long hard week.Left WWE recording studio did some good work a little rusty on the promos thxs to Kieran from WWE.

Shane Douglas - Mick Foley WWE DVD 2013It was then reported by Mike Johnson at PWInsider.com that last week WWE also recorded interview footage with “The Franchise” Shane Douglas for the documentary.

This will be the first time that both Vader and Douglas have recorded sit down interviews with WWE; of course both Vader and Douglas have very strong links with Foley.

Foley and Vader had a legendary feud in WCW in the early 1990s (It was while facing Vader in Munich, Germany that Foley lost his part of his ear!) and Shane Douglas trained with Mick Foley at Dominic DeNucci’s wrestling school, as well as spending time with him in both WCW and ECW.

Finally, Jim Ross revealed on his blog, that he will also be recording an interview for the project next week at WWE HQ.

Mick Foley recently stated he “was able to ask for many specific superstars – both past and present” to be involved with the project. So with news that Shawn Michaels, Big Van Vader, Shane Douglas and Jim Ross are being interviewed, which other superstars would you like to see involved in the project?

Mick Foley’s Biography DVD set is scheduled for release on April 16, 2013.

– Again according to JR’s recent blog post, work is also beginning on 2013?s Top 25 Greatest Rivalries DVD. Ross stated that while visiting WWE HQ this week he will also be working on the Top 25 Rivalries DVD:

“After Raw Monday night in New Jersey’s Meadowlands, I’m heading to WWE HQ to do an extensive sit down interview for Mick Foley’s DVD which is due to be released in 2013. Also going to do some work on a Greatest Rivalry DVD of which I know little about other than it will address rivalries featured on many of the libraries WWE owns. Looking forward to both projects.” –  JRsBarBQ.com

So it would appear that “Top 25 Rivalries” (currently scheduled for release on May 28, 2013) will look at feuds from many promotions from WWE’s vast video library. Which Rivalries would you like to see included?

– Good news for WWE DVD fans in Canada, it appears that Brock Lesnar: Here Comes the Pain – Collectors Edition DVD & Blu-ray was released this past Tuesday, while US fans still have more than a week to wait. However it does appear that Canadian fans will have to wait a little longer for the final Superstar Collection DVDs (Rey Mysterio & Shawn Michaels) as they aren’t released until October 30.

Silver Vision have uploaded the latest edition of SilverVision TV. In this edition Steve reveals that both WWE SummerSlam 2012 (SilverVision’s final WWE PPV release) and Brock Lesnar: Here Comes the Pain – Collectors Edition DVD and Blu-ray will both be in stock this coming week! Rock & Roll Express vs. Midnight Express / Sting vs. Ric Flair / just to name a couple that SHOULD be on this set…will they be? Of course not, this will be another half assed attempt by wwe & will include the same old worn out shit as always.

  2. NickP says:

25 in no particular order.. That means NOT in order for the sensitive ones

    1 Bret vs Austin
    2 Bret vs Shawn
    3 Sammartino vs Zbysko
    4 nWo vs WCW
    5 Freebirds vs Von Erichs
    6 Austin vs McMahon

    22 E & C vs Hardys vs Dudleys
    23 Edge vs Cena
    24 Jericho vs HBK
    25 Funks vs Briscoes

  3. Newbie says:

Can someone please help me and tell me which Silver Vision Blu rays work for the Region 1 players in the US?

  4. Anonymous says:

    Cena vs Edge
Cena vs Punk no doubt should on that
    list

  5. Bowers says:

Please god don’t let one of the rivalries be the Dudleys/E&C/Hardys, were they bad matches absolutely not, it was a great rivalry but they are the most overplayed and repeated matches on WWE dvds. my impression of the Hardys probably affects this as well (they both suck and are an embarrassment to pro wrestling, yeah i said it)

  6. mommy says:

i wish they continued with the hbk/hart rival theme, 25 is way to many and it will be glossed over, i wish they would do a rock/hhh one with so many matches they had on smackdown/raw/ppvs during AE plus both guys still draw and it would sell

  7. Mark D says:

To everyone wondering, I can confirm that details on ‘The Attitude Era’ are coming NEXT month. More soon… promise!

  8. SRB says:

I dig the idea of the top 25 rivalries as WWE can really shoot back pretty far and include many rather than just putting in one and then us having to wait again. There are pros and cons. While the rivalries might not get as much time as one would hope like the 3-disc HBK/Hart set, I think this will be a great time to showcase rivalries that maybe we forgot about and really dont have what it takes to be a 3-disc set. I think Flair/Sting, Dreamer/Raven, Hogan/Andre, Warrior/Rude, HHH/HBK, Cena/Edge, Taker/Kane, and Mysterio/Guerrero could easily make the cut.

  9. mommy says:

are they really going to wait till nov 6 to release the cover art for a nov 20 release date, has this been confirmed, are they waiting till the election is over

  10. Thomas Goodearl says:

Dudleyz vs Hardyz vs Edge & Christian would be great for the rivalries DVD!

  11. wrestlingfan says:

I would like to see diesel vs Bob Backlund

  12. Joey says:

I would like to see on the rival DVD set is nation vs dx

  13. Do you think the Foley DVD could be getting released around Mania’ time because he’s competing? Just a thoughy.

  14. Harry Faversham says:

Whether on this or the Unreleased Hitman set I would like to have Bret Hart vs. Mankind from Shotgun Saturday Night 1997 on DVD. The only match they had that I’m aware of.

  15. KarlKayfabian says:

If they keep Ventura’s commentary intact a la the Steamboat set, then there are some repeats I would actually like to see included (vs Sting@Beach Blast). There are some unreleased gems that I hope make it on there with The Body’s commentary as well ( vs Vader@Halloween Havoc and the Broad Street Bully Match from Slamboree 94).

  16. Vincenzzzzzo says:

I’m really looking forward to the Mick Foley Blu-ray release. The people interviewed so far sound great and will make for an awesome documentary. One person that is a must to be interviewed is Terry Funk. I’d love to hear some stories from him about their rivalry and friendship in the business. Interviews w/ The Rock is a must also.

“The 25 Greatests Rivalries” looks to be a really cool release too. One rivalry that HAS to make the countdown is Undertaker vs Mankind. I still am hoping for a final showdown at WM29 or WM30 between those two. Classic feud that lasted for years.

    • Harry Faversham says:

I’m looking forward to this one too (if we get it in England). I agree the old Funker is a must. Foley is Good!

      • Vincenzzzzzo says:

Yeah, WWE definitely won’t stop selling DVD’s in Europe, so I’m 100% sure it will be released to you guys across the pond. Thats your penalty for all those years of exclusive Tagged Classics that we never got in the US, lol! Just kidding.

Funk and Paul Heyman need to have plenty of time on Mick’s documentary. I’m actually VERY suprised Shane Douglas is even on it. I always thought him and WWE had bad blood for years.

        • Harry Faversham says:

Yeah, especially after that weird thing he did sitting in the crowd on Raw a little while ago. I like Shane Douglas but that made him look a bit silly. But I’d be very pleased to see him on a wwe documentary. He usually has a lot to say!

        • Dave says:

I’m also very surprised about Shane Douglas being interviewed on a WWE DVD. Over the years he always bad mouthed Vince/WWE and even Dixie Carter.

I guess royalties from sales and a big fat check persuaded him.

Also having additional commentary with Foley and hopefully Joey Styles or JR for certain matches like Mind Games with HBK and HIAC with Taker would add something special to those matches since they have been released numerous times in other sets.

        • Joe Israel says:

Shane Douglas is always super outspoken when it comes to the WWE, so I am completely shocked that he agreed to be interviewed for this DVD, even if he is friends with Foley. I never thought we would see him do anything associated with WWE again.

  17. mommy says:

where the heck is the attitude era match listing?????

    • mason says:

i think they are waiting for the election to end with linda running for senate maybe after thats done with they wil release the listing and cover

      • Harry Faversham says:

Its very unusual for a match list to be this late and I think its because Silver Vision isnt producing it. But I’ve just remembered that they made the WCCW DVD not long after the Benoit tragedy. Obviously very bad timing for that DVD and no one was sure if it was coming out and until very close to the time when Silver Vision released the match list as always. But that DVD survived. Hogan (and possibly Jeff Hardy) had DVDs finish production and before it could come out he joined TNA, and they still released it queitly. But with this being such a huge DVD releasing it quietly seems a shame, but no one will care once they get their hands on it. I would love to know what’s on it though. And of course if/when it hits the UK.

      • SRB says:

“i think they are waiting for the election to end with linda running for senate maybe after thats done with they wil release the listing and cover”

Wanna explain what youre talking about? So, if the listing is bad people won’t vote for her? I hardly see how the Attitude Era match listing has anything to do with Linda’s chances.

  18. Anonymous says:

All I want on the rivalrie dvd is a full match between dork funk jr and jack brisco.

Cant wait for the foley bio, he is such a good story teller and I doubt they would include the match where his ear comes off. Not quite PG is it? nor is any other foley match.

  19. Marco says:

I’ve been there live, when Foley lost his ear in Munich back in 1994, sitting in the second row.

    • Mark D says:

Amazingly the video of the match has found its way onto YouTube! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SJPLkrfW-KY I wonder if WWE will use the footage in the documentary? I believe some of the footage on the Steamboat DVD came from YouTube (particularly the 70’s stuff with Flair).

      • yoyo says:

        @Mark
I HIGHLY doubt the WWE would take something from youtube. I am pretty sure they’d rather get in touch with a tape trader and digitalize the footage themselves (and, in the process, might still have the option to enhance the quality).

        • Mark D says:

I’m sure they would rather, but look at the footage on the Steamboat set, in fact checkout the match with Flair vs Steamboat with Andre the Giant as special ref (http://youtu.be/83rdPC-aEC8) this is the footage from about 15 minutes into “The Life Story of The Dragon” documentary.

  20. ernie says:

Greatest rivalries has to include Freebirds vs. The Von Erichs

  21. DrFever says:

Very much looking forward to picking up new Mick Foley set. First I’ll finally get to know if I have to buy the “hardcore edition” of his last set to get that 3rd disc. If those 4 (I think it’s 4?) matches turn up on the new set I’d be thrilled. Save me a few bucks.
