A “Best of” WWE DVD compilation on the United States Championship was confirmed for 2016 earlier this week. We can now reveal the name WWE has planned for it…
“The U.S. Championship – A Legacy of Greatness”
The first confirmed release date we have for the new DVD and Blu-ray set is May 9th, 2016 which is the official street date for fans in the United Kingdom and the rest of Europe.
Expect to see it go up for pre-order on retail sites later this month or early in the new year.
The possible Shane McMahon DVD was scrapped in favour of this project.
As for the reason why, going off informed speculation it appears that for reasons unknown Shane would not have been involved with the new DVD and therefore the decision was made that a match compilation without any of his input was ultimately not as strong as one of the U.S. title.
We’re told that this slot of WWE’s 2016 schedule was not to be filled by a full documentary DVD/Blu-ray whichever title was chosen for it, only a match compilation with packages between matches.

I wanna see Cena’s US Title Open Challenge against Neville, Sami Zayn, Ambrose, Ziggler, Cesaro, Seth Rollins though I’m not sure if he ever accepted it or not. Some US Title matches from WCW would be nice involving Sting, Steve Austin and others.
Hope, Santa’s got my mail.. I send it to the Northpole, Greenland, Bermuda, Paths Unknown and Truth and Consequencens, New Mexico. 😉
• I wanna see Benoit vs Guerrero for the U.S. Title from Vengeance 2003
• I wanna see Benoit’s U.S. Title victory over Orlando Jordan from SummerSlam 2005
• I want the second Best of Seven Series matches to at least be mentioned on the set.
• I’d like to see MVP vs. Matt Hardy for the belt from Backlash 2008.
Benoit will not be on the set or any future sets so give it up
hes on the ladder match 2 chamber dvd and mitb dvd so maybe ?? he might be added but so far its multiman gimmick matches that they add benoit to so shrugs
Benoit’s not on Ladder Match 2. The Elimination Chamber and Money In The Bank releases are Anthologies, which are different than compilations. Anthologies are a complete set of a specific theme. Compilations are random matches. Benoit won’t be on any compilations. After nearly 9 years, people still haven’t figured this out.
ehhh shrugs i mean really like this dvd is only worth it for tv matches cause you can find the ppv matches on DAS NETWORK so but benoit thing ehhh i could care less cause really theres not much of benoit i have not seen ex maybe his japan stuff and some ecw stuff
Cool. Go to WWE Network.
Thanks but I ain’t getting sucked into that crap. Try again troll!!!
Oh I understand. You don’t want to listen to reason. I get it
Yep, your reasons suck and so does the network.
Is the US Championship similar to the History of WWE Championship set that is already out? If so, I might pass
A Legacy of Greatness – particularly for that year where Ambrose didn’t defend the title for months and just used it as a prop
This isn’t related to anything in this article, but WWE Network uploaded the majority of Raw episodes from 2000 and a bunch from 2001 as well. It’s about time.
its what i pretty much said no shane no point of this dvd really. his best matches are just street fights and hardcore or last man standing matches really. NOW us title has a purpose cause its been around for ages has had many champions and honestly i am surprised is taken since 2009 aka the best of the world heavyweight championship to release another one
i say if us title sells well do the european title or ….. best of the cruiserweight/light heavyweight title
History of the Cruiserweight Championship would sell well!
I don’t even know why a Shane McMahon DVD was even considered in the first place. He had good matches and all, but not enough to fill up a 2 or 3 disc set.
i hope the us title has the mid atlantic wrestling matches plus nwa from 80s
Naaah.. Shane O’Mac is returning at WM 32 to claim the empire from his spoiled brat of a sister and her “nose”-husband, in a first time ever Brother vs. Sister Street Fight for Control of the Company..in a homage to the match between Father and Son at X7.
That’s why Shane’s on the shelf…for now. 😉
Even WITH his input it wouldn’t be strong. He didn’t do anywhere near enough worth releasing. And I liked him.
Agreed. What would we have? Maybe one disc worth of really cool matches and one disc worth of average matches, if that? There could be some good stuff that he was involved in that would make the cut. Like him as part of a team of other superstars or whatever, but I don’t see it. And then the doc. There wouldn’t be much different info in it that isn’t already out there.
I am much more into the US title DVD set.
