Wrestling author Scott Keith had a chance to check out the new Attitude Era WWE DVD ahead of the release this Tuesday (pre-order yours) and has posted thoughts on the rspwfaq.net blog.
He reveals that the documentary main feature runs for about one hour, and is quite fast paced in nature. Whilst recapping major milestones of the era, some personalities now confirmed to have been interviewed are Vince Russo, JBL, Mick Foley, and Mark Henry.
There is no blurring of the WWF “scratch” logo present on the DVD footage, nor muting of any WWF utterances. In regards to content, the last extra on Disc 1 entitled simply “GTV” is a compilation of GTV highlights. The four “special features” in the content listing are not present on the regular edition of the DVD, which all but confirms these will be Best Buy exclusives in the United States, but included as standard overseas.
Mike Tyson’s entrance music has reportedly been dubbed over, along with Undertaker’s Limp Bizkit track. However, it appears music edits are very few and far between.
The only ‘bleeps’ present are for swear words that had already been censored on broadcast TV originally. A couple of crowd signs are blurred (due to copyright or sensitivity), but language, middle fingers, and blood are all left intact throughout.

The GTV bonus feature should have confirmed what the plan actually was for that. The Goldust rumors are likely true, but it would have been nice for WWE to comment.
I can’t wait to see the whole thing though.
Just started to watch the blu-ray version, the documentary isn’ t that bad, but doesn’t explain a lot, but that doesn’t matters!! Also it’s great to finally see the WWF logo!!
They also blur all the nudity as well
The documentary sounds extremely disappointing. Only an hour long and pretty much the same stuff they covered in the Monday Night Wars. Unreal.
I watched it a few hours ago and found it to be very good, just not amazing sadly. Definitely had an edgy feel to it that’s missing in this era of wrestling, but felt it didn’t really go into detail as much as it should have or have enough stars interviewed (mostly Dogg/Foley/Henry talking throughout).
Yeah, I was hoping for the documentary to be somewhere in the neighborhood of 1.5- 2 hours. There is just so much stuff they could have covered. Damn.
Seems to me the original plan wasn’t a documentary but a set of matches/moments from the archive, so a documentary was probably a bit of an afterthought and something to help shift copies. Just find it a shame the Rock and Austin interviews are not new but from their recent DVDs, and the likes of Vince and Jericho were not even interviewed for it. That said, it is enjoyable so not all bad!
Are there any clips of HBK speaking about the era?
Nope, I don’t think I saw him pop up.
I just thought of something. Maybe the reason we didn’t get the WM2000 4 way and Vince winning the title is because Linda is involved in those matches. Linda does a run in in the match where Vince wins the title and is in Foley’s corner for the “A McMahon in every corner” stipulation. Still no obvious reason for not including the Six Pack Challenge, though.
So the Best Buy extras are going to be GTV segments?
No, very likely to be the four extras listed here:
http://www.wwedvdnews.com/match-listing-wwe-the-attitude-era-dvd/29902/
In the article above I was meaning Scott Keith’s review of the DVD didn’t include those extras so they must be store exclusive, and he must have seen the regular version.
I hope the undertakers theme got replaced with his 2002 big evil theme. Its such a shame Vince cant dish out extra cash to have these songs played on dvd. I mean, hell they used to own the rights back then 🙁
wwe has a new uk distrubtion deal with free mantle media ….SPREAD THE WORD
i wonder if they will release the night of champions 2012 and hell in a cell 2012 blu-rays, they only confirmed for dvd so far, they look exciting to me but it will be a big ask for them to continue what silvervision has done but the main thing is its all sorted now for us uk and european fans, i also wonder what the prices are going to be lol!!
i know what you mean …silvervisions service was top notch its gonna be hard to top it
That’s good news, but WWE still burs the Superstars of Wrestling logo’s and banners. They should pay a fee to them to start using it again.
You have no idea how the legal system works, do you…..
I could care less about “all but” until it IS confirmed. And the extras on DVD, what about the bluray? Sometimes those extras don’t make the bluray, did these? That’s all I need to know because the bluray is the purchase for me (and for the extras).
I see alot of people saying wheres 2001 Maybe there saving the year 2001 for the Best of the Invasion Wars??
Best of the Invasion wars? Oh my, what a short DVD that would be,
Having watched the NWO DVD this past weekend, they didn’t censor WWF or the scratch logo for the early 2002 footage involving the group. I think our long, national nightmare is over.
I was watching some of Invasion 2001 just now and the impression I kept getting was that this was definitely not still the Attitude Era. They are right to end it at 2000. I know WM17 is such a big deal to a lot of people but that was an anomaly — the WWE was in a comfort zone at that point. Even by mid-2000 it was mostly over. The main reason was that WCW was pretty much dead by then so WWE could let up.
yes by end of 2000 it wasn’t the same, they seemed to be in comfort zone as you put it
still popular but starting around mid 2000 to end 2000 the peak was over
austin’s return was botched big, and there never really was real end to rock/hhh, wcw/ecw were gone, or almost gone, it wasn’t the same
ohhh blood and swear words omg lets go insane lol
Any word on if the blu ray at Best Buy will have the bonus content or is it just the DVD version?
No, this is the same situation as Best of Clash and Top 50 Finishers…the DVD will only have the Best Buy exclusives and the Blu-ray has its own set of exclusives.
You would have to buy both versions to get the complete set.
Gotchya! Thanks for the info Dave, much appreciated 🙂
It must be just me, but the blurring never bothered me.
yes, just you.
Yup, just you.
The blurring was annoying but have to give WWE credit for doing a much better job on recent releases. The older ones, specifically the WM anthology was horribly done, especially 15-18.
But now they’re free to use the logo makes it so much better. Vince should have settled 10 years ago, but i assume the cost of the manpower to edit out every frame on archives would be more than to just cut a settlement cheque to the Pandas.
Good thing is unedited versions of shows are showing up on Classics such as RAW and even the ppvs they’re airing now don’t have WWF muted anymore.
Is it not possible that it was just a 10 year injunction? Just a thought.
Also seems slightly coincidental that once WWE can say WWF again they have ended their relationship with Silver Vision. Perhaps Tagged Classics was a reason for holding on to Silver Vision and they might have taken matters into their own hands sooner otherwise? WWE could essentially re-issue the exact same thing now themselves IF they wanted to , but I doubt it. Also just a thought. Sheer speculation.
The only blurring that really bothered me is the blurring during the Rock Vs. Austin match at WMX7. Too bad that match isn’t on this set.
YES YES YES! no muting over saying WWF or blur of the WWF LOGO 🙂 so excited!!!
Not happy. When it said it was attitude era I expected no beeps or blurs at all. Hate how WWE tries to ruin our memories.
Hmm, the only blurring Scott mentioned was a crowd sign, and the only bleeping for swear words that were already bleeped back in the day. Have a read again.
Should be no beeps at all Attitude Era = censoring = not right.
“Attitude Era = censoring = not right”
I don’t know if you realize this but according to your equation the Attitude Era = Not right. What do you have against the Attitude Era?
I mean’t + I didn’t press shift lol.
“I mean’t + I didn’t press shift lol.”
‘mean’t’? Is that a contraction for ‘mean it’? So you’re saying that you mean it that the Attitude Era = Not right?
Sorry, couldn’t help myself.
It clearly says in the article that the only censoring are signs and the bleeping are the ones that were already televised. It’s not like WWE just started bleeping bad words just for this DVD. They were already bleeped out.
Please quit complaining about the littlest things.
Uh, the article states that there is NO editing over anything, everything is intact from the original airings. The only things that are “bleeped out” are the same things that were edited on the ORIGINAL broadcasts.
Really looking forward to picking up The Attitude Era this week. This will actually be my first time going to purchase both the Blu-ray and DVD versions of the same release. I definitely have to get the Best Buy exclusives, even if there are only a few.
I’m surprised they even made a documentary for this, so the fact that it’s only an hour doesn’t bother me at all. All we needed was just a quick recap of the time period anyway, with the matches being the most important on this release, for obvious reasons.
I thought The Undertaker used the Kid Rock theme in the year 2000 and didn’t use Limp Bizkit until 2001??
Armageddon 2000.

Please no more Scott Keith on this website. Can’t stand that guy.
He’s not here, is he? His findings are appreciated though.
He did a good job with this review. Sometimes I just find his snarky style annoying, though. He’s tolerable.
Can’t wait!!!
is the wwf logo shown at the bottom left hand screen like in the nwo dvd or is it covered up with big wwe block logo like in the brock lesnar dvd, just watching survivor series 2012 and they
showed a add for the attitude era dvd and the blurred the wwf logo lol!!
I’m guessing they show it in the corner for all of the matches. They did in the nWo DVD, right?
No there is the wwf logo in the corner of some of the matches on the blu ray version anyways
Explain that again lol, Do they show the logo at the bottom left screen yes or no or do they just show for couple of matches/segments and then cover the logo for others, that would be pretty stupid if they did that !!
My guess is the reason they blurred out the logo at Survivor Series was because they’re not allowed to advertise the WWF logo on products they’re selling…they could show during flashback sequences and matches, but not when advertising for DVDs/Blu-rays.
They also blurred out the logo during advertisements for nWo and Lesnar Collectors Edition.
The showing of (2006?) DX in an Attitude Era trailer was rather depressing. That happened, didn’t it? It was hard to pay attention to the PPV last night!
Sounds good.
