Ahead of WWE’s new DVD and Blu-ray documentary release, The True Story of Royal Rumble, just scheduled for November is something new featuring every Rumble PPV in history.
Early word is that this will be achieved with two “Anthology-like” volumes that compile all 29 events; one a 14 disc set and the other a 15 disc set! The name being given to the updated box sets is the “Royal Rumble Ultimate Collection” and the first synopsis is ready to be revealed:
Let’s get ready to Rumble! The WWE Royal Rumble Ultimate Collection brings together the entirety of the storied history of one of WWE’s most exciting and long-running Pay-Per-View events.
The WWE Royal Rumble Ultimate Collection Volume 1 collects the first fourteen Royal Rumble Pay-Per-Views (1988-2001).
Volume 2 collects the latest fifteen Royal Rumble Pay-Per-Views (2002-2016).
That’s a combined total of nearly 83 hours of footage!
At this time we only have the box set confirmed for Australia, via Madman.com.au.
The original Royal Rumble Anthology was of course put out worldwide – it released first to fans in the United States back in 2007 and was later available in individual volumes (like shown in the image below), not too dissimilar to what’s being proposed with the new set.
2016’s offering will complete the collection with 9 more events and for earlier shows will most likely go back and fix any muting of “WWF” audible references and blurring of the “scratch” logo.
With the Hardcore DVD now in stores, the only other September WWE Home Video release is Battleground 2016 in the UK, so we have a slight wait on our hands for something new.
But fear not – in the meantime Kayfabe Commentaries will be releasing a new DVD and it’s out this coming Tuesday, September 13th. “Guest Booker: The Outsiders Stay Inside” will feature a sit-down interview with Kevin Nash as “Big Daddy Cool” fantasy books himself and Scott Hall had they remained with WWE in 1996 and not defected to the rival WCW, later forming the nWo.
The DVD cover artwork follows below. Hit up KayfabeCommentaries.com to get your copy.
In running WrestlingDVDNetwork.com this week, we’ve heard that the initial draft of the 2017 WWE Home Video schedule is being worked on; a tentative list of DVDs/Blu-rays planned for next year.

Given that WWE just released Alberto Del Rio, we can safely rule out that particular DVD.
Cody Rhodes, while still with the company, made mention on Twitter (shown again below) of a new project on Dusty Rhodes titled “The Last Cowboy”. That turned out to be a book but we do know WWE has considered releasing “Rhodes Stories”, a DVD centered around Dusty with input from his sons, Cody and Goldust. With Cody now gone from WWE that would seem unlikely to happen unless filming has already completed or they go in a different route to focus only on Dusty.
CM Punk, Kurt Angle, Goldberg and a much-anticipated Undertaker documentary are a handful of DVDs in the above list that could fit the term “surprising”. For now we’ll leave you to speculate.
Official announcement & more details forthcoming…but here's something to get excited for

would be the sets that interests me – because unlike the rest there would be potentially footage that hasn’t had a bluray release (and hopefully, regarding some of it, not even a dvd release) before.
what I personally don’t need is the same stuff we have seen on different release several times over the last decade.
Anybody else wondering what they’ll do about the 2004 Rumble? How they gonna handle that – leave off the Rumble match itself? Lol.
are you deliberately trying to troll?
IF you are serious: the SummerSlam Anthology set, which was released only a year after the Benoit murders, contained all his matches in its entirety.
Considering he’s so close to his career ending and the probability that he’ll have little if any (and that’s a big if)involvement, rather they wait on Taker till after his HOF induction. I feel that way about Sting too regarding his doc which was before it was revealed his set centered on his debut in WWE and first match at WM. I’m all for the other sets though. Also really wanna see a Goldust/Dustin Runnels career retrospective doc.
Regarding Royal Rumble, I hope the blurred logos and edits are removed to make ti uncut though with WWE being PG now, some edits, possibly new ones may be made to reflect that. Anyone know if this is just a DVD set? I’d like at least the HD versions which began in 2008 to be blu ray as DVD isn’t in HD. I probably won’t buy it. But for the sake of my friends who’ll probably get it as they don’t care for The Network.
I have the previous Anthology and aside from the edits, am happy with it. ALso have the Network so won’t bother me to miss out on this as I’m happy with the current Network versions of the PPV’s.
I hope they don’t waste this Rumble set only releasing it on DVD…
I really want sets on Rick Rude, Kurt Angle and Ted Dibiase! I’d also like to see Goldust, Sid and Marl Henry.
We can finally get Royal Rumble 2008 in widescreen!
It’s on the Network in widescreen.
I want it on DVD though since they fu**ed it up!
I really wish wwe would release smackdowns backlash and no mercy and there other pay per views on DVD for this year along with raws pay per views makes my collection not complete!
I feel like wwe could do a really good job with a Stephanie documentary
I only want the royal rumbles between 2001 – 2004. Everything after it sucked!
Hope the backlash 2016 ppv can release on dvd and blurays.
Royal Rumble is my favorite of the Anthology series.. the white cover(UK version) with the golden ornament and the stats in the booklets..just makes it look way better than the other 3 big events..
If they were to make this happen, it should be on blu-ray and with the same stats for 2008-2016, if I was to consider getting it. But..its problaly a Down-Under only release..and on DVD only, based on previously big boxes produced only to the Aussie’s..
Regarding 2017: Cena release and WM 3: noooo thanks.. both topics have been done to death..and neither are particulare awesome. Rest sounds like the Best. 🙂
This Rumble set had better be on Blu-Ray! Otherwise I just don’t know what I’ve been waiting for all this time
I will pass on it, I am happy with my Royal Rumble set
i be all for kane, goldberg, goldust lex luger, kurt angle, rick rude, sycho sid, survivor series and mark henry
any of those bios with matches or just match comps be good
The only thing that would make that Rumble Anthology worth it is if they definitely remove all the WWF blurring and edits. Otherwise it’s a complete waste.
Thats true, but i wouldn’t be surprised being similar to the Wrestlemania re-releases back in 2013 where they will just put the anthology versions. With the Network though they will probably just take those versions which would be great.
By all accounts those individual Mania re-releases didn’t perform that well. Who knows, that might be because people got wind of the edits.
I would say it’s safe to assume a 2016 WWE DVD release won’t have edits like that since they’ve been able to release the footage freely for a good 4 years now. Then there’s the Network too.
I understand not quite fully believing it ’til it happens though. 🙂
I would love to get documentaries on sid vicious and Goldberg .also a divas DVD is long overdue.
Considering I love documentaries over match compilations, this would be MY Top 10 choices:
1 Undertaker (Documentary)
2 Bruno Sammartino (Documentary)
3 The True Story of SummerSlam (Documentary)
4 Out of the Darkness – Two Decades of Kane (Documentary)
5 Lex Luger (Documentary)
6 WrestleMania III – 30 Years Later (Documentary)
7 Best of 1997: The 20th Anniversary (Comp)
8 CM Punk (Comp)
9 Kurt Angle (Comp)
10 The History of WWE (Box set)
I am from Pittsburgh, PA. So obviously Bruno Sammartino has a special place to me. I want that documentary, you know they are going to put some classic WWE CHAMPIONSHIP defenses from his 2 awesome title reigns. So what if they are edited having that classic footage in itself would be awesome. He was WWE CHAMPION 8 AND A HALF YEARS. Straight. Then his 2nd reign was 3 years. A combined 11 years as WWE CHAMPION. He is simply the greatest WWE CHAMPION, in pure in the pure sense of length of time and amount of defenses. As for Rick Rude I want that one too. He has had great battles with Sting and, little known fact, was actually a World Champion! WCW International WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION but still. Sycho Sid and Ted DIBIASE are also must haves.
I’m not sure how much great footage there is of Bruno’s first title reign. I don’t think there is enough to fill an entire disc most likely. His second title reign should have considerably more footage, cause it started in 73 and ended in 77. I’d love to see Shea Stadium footage of Bruno v Pedro or Bruno v Stan Hansen. The big thing for me with a Bruno bluray would be the documentary that would detail Bruno’s career, his issues with the company, his estrangement from WWE and his return.
I’m not a Rick Rude fan really, and sorry to say I don’t really consider that International title to be a World title on par with WWE or WCW titles.
Sycho Side has no appeal to me in the least.
I’d love to see a DiBisase documentary, but footage from his St Louis and Houston Wrestling years are a “must” to this story and sadly WWE doesn’t own that footage. Same with his work in Japan. It’s a big part of his story that WWE wouldn’t have access to.
I may have to get that collection but I wish they would show some unreleased content as well.
