Exclusive: News on WWE ‘Randy Savage Story’ DVD – Big 6 Disc Edition Planned

August 1, 2014 by Daniel Bee

WrestlingDVDNews.com can now exclusively reveal that the new “Macho Man” Randy Savage WWE DVD will be officially released on Tuesday, November 18th, 2014.

There are three editions planned – a standard 3 disc DVD, a 2 disc Blu-ray, and a “Collector’s Edition” DVD box set.

It’s titled “The Randy Savage Story” as of now. Lanny Poffo, brother of Randy, is said to be heavily involved with narration.

SYNOPSIS

WWE Macho Man Randy Savage Backstage

“Macho Man” Randy Savage was best known for his time in World Wrestling Federation (WWF) and World Championship Wrestling (WCW). Savage held 20 championships during his professional wrestling career. He held 6 world championships between the WWF and WCW, having won the WWF Championship twice and the WCW World Heavyweight Championship four times. A one time WWF Intercontinental Champion, WWE (formerly WWF) has named Savage as the greatest champion of all time.

“The Randy Savage Story” focuses on the life and career of Randy Macho Man Savage. The title chronicles the highs and lows of Randy’s life and career, and shows that while he was extremely driven and highly successful, he was a complex person who also had his struggles over the years. Later in his life, Randy remarried and found peace before his tragic and untimely death.

COLLECTOR’S EDITION

WWE Macho Man Randy Savage Story DVD - Collector's Edition Tin Bonus Items

We can also exclusively confirm that a limited edition “Randy Macho Man Savage – Collector’s Edition” DVD box set is in the works and to be released at the same time. This will have special tin packaging and right now is planned to include the following items:

• 6 DVDs (New 2014 Randy Savage Story DVD & 2009 Macho Madness DVD)
• Randy Macho Man Savage T-Shirt
• Randy Macho Man Savage Bandana
• Randy Macho Man Savage Sunglasses

The T-Shirt, bandana and sunglasses are said to be exclusive to this collector’s edition set, and not available separately. The “Macho Madness” DVD from 2009 looks to have been brought back for this special box set as it was recently reported to now be out-of-print.

CONTENT HINTS

WWE Macho Man Randy Savage - Tribute Video

A documentary main feature is expected.

Information we’ve received on the planned extras to the “story” refers to match picks against Hulk Hogan, Ultimate Warrior, Shawn Michaels and Ted DiBiase. Those are subject to change before the content listing is finalized and are not detailed any further than that.

  2. Kenny says:

I’ve got the first Savage DVD, but with the special packaging and all, I’d pick up the big 6 disc set. It’s a little bittersweet that we’re getting this now. I wish the b.s. could have been dealt with and put together when Macho could have participated, but I’m glad we’re still getting it, nonetheless.

  3. RCS1988 says:

The set will be good, if they include all of these matches. WWE definitely has them, so WWE should definitely use them.

I wish WWE did a voting poll like the History of IC title DVD, where you vote for 8 matches out of a list of 50, and the votes that get the highest go on the DVD, like the top 26.

  4. Michele says:

I really wish WWE would do a DVD set on Miss Elizabeth.

  5. ohyea says:

I was excited for the 6 disc set but then saw it was just a re-release of the other set plus a shirt, bandana, & glasses. I still cant wait for the set & hope they use a Sting approach to it- more unreleased matches rather then matches we’ve seen 1000000 of times before. I expect Steamboat from WM3 & Hogan matches but other then that, I hope unreleased gems like Sting.

  6. Todd Cash says:

I agree with you Steven…it would have been nice to have Randy included…I think WWE and Savage were still not on the best of terms…kinda like with the Bobby Hennan dvd they should have done it before Bobby got in such bad shape..it was like watching a tribute to someone who had already passed…they kept referring to him in the past tense.

  7. Steven Jackson says:

I am feeling quite bittersweet about this documentary set. On the one hand, I am really excited to hear the story of the “Macho Man” and the match selection. Yet, on the other hand, I am upset that WWE did not approach Randy a few years ago to do this set, as he could have commented on the documentary himself, instead of it being a posthumous feature.

  8. Todd Cash says:

One of the blu-ray extras should be Stunning Steve Austin vs. Macho Man from WCW Saturday Night 1995

  9. Wildman says:

Does the collectors edition apply to Australians? If so I’m buying it.

  10. Timothy Thorpe says:

I will be getting the blu ray edition and the collectors edition. Four days after my birthday too! This late in the year is looking real good for releases.

  11. Bill says:

I hope to see a match listing soon and hoping for a ton of nWo Macho Man matches on the set. I will be getting the Blu-ray edition.

  12. Steve says:

Looking forward to this and Attitude Era Volume 2. Only bought Mr. WrestleMania this year but Macho Man and Attitude Era 2 interests me. Put the Macho Man vs Disco Inferno match from April 97 on Nitro match on the Blu-ray extra.

  13. Gene says:

This might be a precursor to him being inducted in the Hall of Fame the night before Wrestlemania 31…

  14. TheManInBlu says:

    Finally something worth to buy.

  15. Jordan B says:

Do you guys know if this is going to be a collector’s edition that is for a example a best buy exclusive or will be sold at multiple places? May be too early to ask this 🙂

  16. Brad Attitude says:

    OOOOOOH YEAAAHHHH! Dig It.

  17. Mr Hesse says:

Already own “Macho Madness”, so pre-ordering the Blu ray for sure.

In other news, I got the Paul Heyman Blu ray via UPS today, and it’s amazing.

  18. sam says:

I can’t wait for this to come out. I think with the sting release having so many unreleased matches that’s a good thing for this set. I could see them including 80s house show matches, superstar, raw, nitro etc. Ohhhhhh yeah

  19. Anonymous says:

Considering they seem to really be pushing the fact that he was a multi-time world champion, I’m hopeful they release all of his unreleased world title victories and losses — even if that means they’ll re-release any world title victory that’s already out there.

With Savage getting yet another (deserved) release, it’s time they also start putting out some Unreleased Collection sets on guys who haven’t yet had one like Flair, Michaels, Undertaker, Austin, Rock, Horsemen, HHH, etc. I’d also love to see some of the overlooked legends (like Race, Terry Funk, Rude, Dangerous Alliance, Evolution, etc) finally get a release.

  20. nick says:

I just hope that theres no repeats. I think the documentry will be really great but the rest of the bluray wIll be repeats. I hope it includes that unreleased match where savage lost the wwe championship against flair!

  21. Kevin says:

I’m a big fan of Macho Man and I can’t wait…so is there anything about WWE releasing or will be releasing any 15th Anniversary set about Smackdown since this month will mark the 15th Anniversary of the show since it’s debut?!

  22. Roly says:

Literally can’t wait for this. Going to be the best.

  23. SCSA says:

So I take it the Exclusive eddition wont be added to the Blu-Ray set, no? Like the Tin Eddition, Sunglasses, Bandana & T-Shirt? 🙁

N of course no Macho Madness DVD?! Well, it sounds good so far, though I just hope it has the match for the WWF Title against Ric Flair which I think took place at the Wrestlemania VIII (8 I think) of 1993!

    • Daniel Bee says:

The box set thingy is just in DVD format by the looks of it. I suppose it has to be because the bonus item (Macho Madness) was a DVD only release.

      • ALK says:

Could of easily slapped on the old set onto blu ray too as an exclusive item.

Its like WWE just don’t want to make money anymore… lol.

  24. John Peterson says:

Wish they would do that special edition for the blu-ray.But still very excited for this set.Macho Madness forever.
