WWE 'Unreleased: 1986-1995' DVD - Rare Matches!

WWE’s anticipated Unreleased Matches 1986-1995 DVD (to be filled with unseen gems!!) is now…

“WWE Unreleased: 1986-1995”

With a new, simplified title comes an updated, official synopsis:

WWE unlocks the vault and brings you never-before-seen matches from 1986-1995. Check out these unreleased hidden gems featuring some of the greatest Superstars in WWE history.

— WWE has gone deep into its vault and uncovered exclusive content that you can only find right here on this set,

— Features Superstars such as Randy Savage, Ultimate Warrior, Andre the Giant, Shawn Michaels, Bret Hart, Mr. Perfect and more,

— Never-before-seen matches from the years 1986 through 1995!

This week, WrestlingDVDNetwork.com has exclusively learned that in addition to the Superstars mentioned above WWE has plans to include a rare Owen Hart match from 1986 and another involving Taz — possibly a WWE “tryout” — from 1993.

Initial speculation on the Owen match is it being one from a July All Star Wrestling taping in Brantford, Ontario when he took on Steve Lombardi. Our hunch on the latter; a Wrestling Challenge taping from Portland, Maine, which saw The Tazmaniac face Scott Taylor in May of that year.

When we hear more on the matches that made the cut, so will you! And of course the 3-disc DVD set will also feature newly-filmed host segments with Sean Mooney and Charly Caruso.

  1. Anan says:

Those Owen & Taz matches would be rare & unreleased for sure. I’m hoping though that this’ll have some house show matches (if the company records them), dark matches/segments, “PPV/Coliseum Video exclusive” content as well.

    • LP1 says:

Dark matches for sure. House show matches as long as they never aired on TV. Coliseum Video matches wouldn’t make sense since it wouldn’t fit the unseen and unreleased theme.

  2. Anthony says:

It’s kind of a long shot, but if by some chance the Roddy Piper vs Undertaker body bag match was filmed at some house show in Maine in 1991 I hope they include it!

    • Anan says:

Whoa! Never knew about this! And I’ve been following Taker as a fan of his since he debuted in 1990 at SSeries! Speaking of Taker & Piper, I’m hoping that tag match with Taker & Macho Man vs Flair & Berzerker. One can find it online so I guess it was a TV taping or whatever it was but it’s not in English.

P.S. Typing about Taker tag matches reminds me of how he was supposed to team with Flair vs Hogan & Piper at MSG in 92. They even ran promos about it during those Sean Mooney hosted Main Event Center segments but the match got changed when Taker turned face on SNME and Sid Justice replaced him as Flair’s partner.

    • brandon vendetta says:

I never knew that Piper and taker even had a body bag match. I would buy this set for that one match alone, but having said that it probably won’t be on there cause we want it to be. They will have a Barry Horriblewitz match instead.

  3. brandon vendetta says:

This has the potential to be the best set this year. Hope the matches have commentary, at least most of them but I don’t want to get into that argument again.if there’s commentary then it will definitely be a better release in my opinion.I’m gonna shut up now so I dont start another war on here about my opinions about commentary.

    • RabidHeat says:

I agree, it’s awful that we have to feel like we’re walking on eggshells posting our opinion, but that’s the reality! 🙁

  4. RabidHeat says:

I just watched the 1992 “Wrestling Grudge Matches” Coliseum Video the other night, where Sean Mooney and Lord Alfred Hayes try desperately to justify why all these totally random matches are supposedly “grudge” matches. Mooney: “I overheard Terry Taylor backstage saying that El Matador can’t even defeat a cow, Lord Alfred” / “We have seldom ever seen Big Boss Man in tag team action” (lol, despite the years as one of the Twin Towers?!)

  5. SCSA says:

For me to buy this ‘Unseen matches’ only on DVD, not Blu-Ray would have to include matches like Bret Hart Vs Roddy Piper – IC Title (WM8), Quebeckers Vs Bret & Owen – Tag Titles (RR94).

Also Shawn Michaels w/Sherri Vs Rick Martel, Nailz Vs Virgil, The Undertaker Vs Kamala (SS92)… as well as other matches including Doink Vs Crush (WM9), & others

  6. marty krankshookk says:

I like the ideas of debuting squash matches on a superstars yet but they rarely do that anymore. I’m still looking forward to this set.

  7. RCS1988 says:

I look forward to this. Something I’ve been waiting for many years. The Taz match probably wouldn’t be his match against Ray Oddyssey from the 8/19/91 Superstars taping. Hopefully they include a Konnan match on the set.

  8. Eric Lombard says:

Until I see the match listing, I’m not quite sold on this.

  9. yeahitsme says:

I really hope this isn’t like the Attitude Era one which was all dark matches. I wanted rare Coliseum Video and TV matches with a small amount of dark matches and live event matches.

  10. Anthony says:

I just read on pwinsider.com that in October an attitude era dvd will be released and in December an NXT dvd will be released…

  11. JJA says:

Whiners in the comments already overreacting over the content

  12. SCSA says:

    No Blu-Ray I take it 🙁

    • HM_Nilsson says:

What a shame. WWE should have at least released it in a DVD & Blu-ray combo, like they did with Royal Rumble 2011 & Elimination Chamber 2011 and give people the choice to watch it on DVD or Blu-ray. That’s what WWE should be doing with all their upcoming Home Video releases, instead of going backwards on technology. It would have made a great Blu-ray release with a few extra bonus matches.

  13. NickP says:

Please include some Duane Gill squash matches. Gems they are!

  14. LP1 says:

I’m curious why they specially chose the years 1986-1995. Not that I have a problem with those years, those were some of my all time favorite years. But why not just open it wide up to include unreleased matches from any era? This way they can continue to release multiple Unreleased volumes and not have to pidgeon-hole themselves to just those specific years.

    • Vintage Simon says:

My guess is that the best unreleased matches from 1996-2000 were already on the Attitude Era set, and by 2001, the nature of TV tapings had changed to the point that pretty much everything being recorded was for the actual TV shows.

1986-1995 seems a good fit because they had those mammoth TV tapings several times a month where a great deal of the content was taped and never intended for release.

For instance, The Undertaker vs. Dusty Rhodes took place at a TV taping a few days before Survivor Series 1990, and that’s the kind of hidden gem I’d be hoping to see on this set.

      • RabidHeat says:

Right on the money. The best Unreleased stuff from 1996 onwards was on Attitude Era Vol. 3. This is effectively a prequel to that. Any anything pre-1986, you’re probably getting a bit too ‘old school’ to expect high sales.

  15. Roy Lucier says:

If there’s no Tom Magee vs Bret Hart, I’m not getting it

    • LP1 says:

      100% agree with this

    • ILoveUnseen says:

But what if WWE doesn’t have that match?

      • LP1 says:

They do have it. It was from the October 7, 1986 Wrestling Challenge taping. It was supposed to air on TV as Magee’s debut match, but they held off on his debut and pulled the match from the episode.

        • ILoveUnseen says:

How do you know they have it though? Have you seen it?

          • LP1 says:

Are you suggesting they lost the tape? Or taped over it? Doubtful. They have pretty much everything they’ve ever filmed going back to the early/mid 70’s.

            • ILoveUnseen says:

I’m suggesting that perhaps they might just not have some footage that everyone thinks they do so why get hopes up?

              • LP1 says:

But they definitely taped it. Like I said, it was scheduled to air on an episode of Wrestling Challenge, but they decided to pull the match off that episode. So if they taped it, chances are they still have it. They keep everything.

  16. David says:

I hope they include one of the series of 30 or 60 Minute Iron man matches with Bret vs. Owen and Bret vs Flair. Not sure if they were taped but those would be great gems to include. I seen the fan cam footage which i think unfortunately probably the only source.

There was also a Bret vs. Savage match from Japan sometime after WM9 but again, not sure if they were taped, and likely only fan cam footage exists.

  17. Chudd says:

Come on jobber matches?? With their extensive collection of never before seen classics I hope this picks up a bit, I’ve got really high hopes for this and another couple of volumes hopefully

    • Indyfan says:

My thoughts exactly. With all those shows from MSG, Philly Spectrum, Copps Colisuem, MapleLeaf Gardens, Nassau Coliseum, Boston Gardens, LA Sports Arena etc…they bust out jobbers matches? I really hope it picks up.

      • LP1 says:

I wouldn’t expect any matches from the MSG, Spectrum, Boston shows. It says these are matches that are “never-before-seen”. So that sounds like it will be mostly all dark matches that have never been seen on TV, VHS, DVD, BR, the Network or anywhere else.

    • lol says:

“jobber matches” are matches. Considering it’s not real in the first place, what difference does it make? WWE’s concept of ‘hidden gems’ doesn’t always mean the matches are actually good, the selling point is that they’re largely unseen, period.

      • RabidHeat says:

” “jobber matches” are matches. Considering it’s not real in the first place, what difference does it make?”

        Really well said, lol.

      • Chudd says:

It does matter otherwise Wrestlemania would be Barry Horowitz v the Brooklyn brawler, the are so many unseen gems out there like Savage v Taker, Hogan V Jake , Warrior & Von Erich v Perfect & Rude, Bret & Owen v Money Inc, Owen v Angle so absolutely no need for jobber matches. And it’s not real you say mind blown

  18. Richard Land says:

They showed a clip of Owen vs. Barry Horowitz on a 1988 Challenge taping on the Owen DVD/Blu-ray (I believe on a Blu-ray extra), so it could be that?

    • Mr Nash says:

For the true worldwide wrestling fans, these single/ tag team/ cage matches must be included:
-Rick Rude VS Bret Hitman Hart
-Ultimate Warrior VS Big Boss Man
      -Ultimate Warrior VS Sid Justice
      -Randy Savage VS The Undertaker
      -Roddy Piper VS The Undertaker
      -Warlord VS Hulk Hogan
      -Warlord VS Sid Justice
      -Randy Savage VS Mr Wonderful
-Rick Rude & Mr Perfect VS Ultimate Warrior & Texas Tornado
-Hulk Hogan & Bruno Sammartino VS One Man Gang & King Kong Bundy
      -Haku VS Andre the Giant
-Hulk Hogan & Mr Wonderful VS Rick Rude & Andre the Giant
-Hulk Hogan & Big Boss Man VS Powers of Pain
-Mr Perfect & Bret Hart VS Lex Luger & Razor Ramon
-Ricky Steamboat VS Randy Savage inside a steel cage
