RELEASED TODAY: First Look Photos of WWE ‘RAW 25th Anniversary’ DVD – No More Digipak Casing?

April 3, 2018 by Daniel Bee

It’s time for a new WWE DVD, don’t you think? The first of two new Home Video releases in April is “RAW 25th Anniversary”.

Celebrate 25 years of WWE’s flagship show with a 3-disc DVD packed with 8 hours of content, including the “RAW 25” special episode and a compilation of the 25 greatest-ever RAW moments!

And you can get the collection right now — it released to fans in the United Kingdom yesterday (£20.99; Amazon.co.uk) and just followed to fans in the United States today ($18.77; Amazon.com).

If you haven’t picked up your copy just yet, WrestlingDVDNetwork.com is here to give you a first look, and these photos reveal that the packaging on this one is a little different…

“RAW 25th Anniversary” not only presents the memorable “RAW 25” episode in its entirely, it also includes the pre-show that kicked off the celebrations and a couple of unseen extras including The Miz interrupting D-Generation X/The Kliq and The Bálor Club off the air at the Manhattan Center.

That’s rounded off with a lengthy, near-5-hour countdown of the greatest Monday Night RAW moments from the past 25 years (all shown in full) which is called “Top 25 Moments in RAW History”.

As you can tell by the pics, the US release is NOT housed in the usual fold-out cardboard packaging. The switch in packaging style appears to coincide with the Warner Bros. logo now being added to the WWE DVDs and the encoding of the discs changed from “Region 1” to “All Region”.

Information we have access to on upcoming WWE DVDs scheduled for 2018 does make reference to the planned packaging being a mix of “Amaray” and “Digipak”, however we would expect future releases to predominantly follow the same packaging style as today’s new release; this being a plastic “Amaray” case and a cardboard slipcover, making for an overall slimmer design.

Let’s take a closer look – thanks to WDN reader Jordan who purchased the DVD from Walmart.

Someone else asked below, but any info or reason why its not available on Amazon.ca? Actually, they have nothing listed for preorder either (no WM, no Hardys, no Chamber/Fastlane double feature nothing). And no RAW 25 instore either. Is there some sort of distribution change in Canada?

  2. Asaf says:

Why would anyone buy this? It was rubbish…

  3. Suplexbeast says:

Does anyone know if walmart had the road to wrestlemania dvd sale this year like they have had in the past

    • Todd Cash says:

They haven’t done one for this year’s Wrestlemania…i guess with the network they figured why bother…damn shame :/

  4. SRB says:

I’m probably alone here, but i like the new packaging. My fold out packs seem to get pretty scuffed up, but i will miss the artwork

  5. David says:

Next thing you know they will cut costs by releasing DVDs in jewel cases and paper sleeves.

    • LP1 says:

Actually next thing you know there won’t be anymore DVD releases. It’s only a matter of time. Little by little they’ve been phasing everything out slowly.

First they cut back on including the paper slip with the content listing inside the cases, then they cut back on the number of extras included, then they cut back on the number of total hours on these releases, then they cut back on big box sets, then they cut back on blu-rays in the US, then they cut back on digipaks in the UK, then they cut back on including pre-show matches on several PPVs, then they cut back on a lot of blu-ray releases in the UK, now they’re cutting back on digipaks in the US.

Enjoy it while you can, folks.

      • Timothy J Thorpe says:

I’ll gladly go down with the ship when the time comes.

      • Vintage Simon says:

DVDs are definitely being phased out, but not for many of the reasons listed above.

        • LP1 says:

Simon, DVDs/BDs are being phased out because times are changing and technology is changing. I mentioned all the things that have already been phased out, but didn’t say those are the reasons DVDs are going away.

      • whut says:

I don’t understand why people downvoted this.

because I think cost-cutting (which is directly related to the decline of sales) seems the definite reason for decisions like this.

        • LP1 says:

They downvoted it because there’s several trolls that come on here almost every day and downvote pretty much everything. It’s nothing new.

  6. Nicolas Hébert says:

Not available on Amazon.ca… What the Heck?

  7. Matthew Miller says:

The 3rd disc of the 25th anniversary of Raw set has the night after WM last year and they edited out f*** you Roman chants. I was very disappointed. I mostly bought this set for my collection.

    • Robert emons says:

It’s rated TV-14 I’m surprised they edited it out

    • Ruthless.Attitude.Eras.4Life says:

Since they edited out the “Holy Shi*t” for the Lesnar-return back in 2012 on the Best of Raw/Smackdown set for that year, it should not be a surprise that they edited that FU, Roman chants.

Releases like these are targeted a more general and wider range of fans, than for example the specific Lesnar-releases, where the Holy Shi*t chants remain.

A FU chant on the other hand though, is these recent years problaly too much for the softcore product that is WWE, no matter what context is.

  8. KurtK26 says:

Anyone find any Easter eggs yet?

  9. Robert emons says:

They could of put a match listing card in there to let you know what matches are on there

  10. whut says:

the UK/EU releases have switched to plastic cases for quite some time, although they at least used transparent ones (so they could have a double sided inlay, making it possible to have the content being listed on the inside). it’s unfortunate that the US releases kind of “caught up” with them now.

  11. Ruthless.Attitude.Eras.4Life says:

Regarding the free DB DVD: according to the email I recieved containing the newsletter with info on it,it is only a 1-disc edition.

  12. Foley is good says:

Must be a new cost cutting measure.
