Exclusive: The Planned Name of WWE’s Owen Hart DVD, Release Time Revealed?

May 29, 2015 by Daniel Bee

WWE - Bret & Owen Hart

Earlier this month we reported on WWE’s plans to produce an Owen Hart DVD/Blu-ray before the end of the year, slated to include a documentary as its main feature.

“Owen Hart – Hart of Gold” is the title we’re seeing for the Home Video right now.

The latest we’ve heard on a release time is November 2015. We would consider that tentative given the length of time between then and now, in addition to the project being somewhat sensitive in nature, not least because Martha Hart, widow of Owen, has gone on record in saying that she does not endorse the potential WWE DVD whatsoever.

To reiterate again, although WrestlingDVDNews.com had initially been advised that the Owen Hart documentary had “backing and support of family”, Martha Hart contacted us directly to state that herself and her two children, Oje and Athena, are not included in that and in fact were unaware of the project prior to the report and do not back or support it in any way.

The new “Daniel Bryan: Just Say Yes! Yes! Yes” DVD/Blu-ray is out this Tuesday! It will hit Australia one day later and will follow to fans in the UK and Europe from June 15th.

WWE had the Bryan DVD/Blu-ray in stock early on their official shop site for around 24 hours this week. It was then pulled until today and it’s now listed as a pre-order for Tuesday, as you can see here on WWEShop.com, therefore it was probably listed early by mistake.

This is my personal opinion on this I don’t blame Martha Hart for feeling the way she does cause she lost her husband but god damn it’s been 16 yrs since it happened she needs to get the f*** over it bury the hatchet with WWE & move on with her life I’ve been an Owen Hart fan since day one and I’m happy he’s finally getting a DVD and I for damn sure am getting it when it comes out long live Owen Hart

  2. Sid says:

And hopefully what’s best for business? I love to have them Re-release WWE WRESTLEFEST with a lot of Legends including the original Wrestlefest Roster, like Earthquake &Demolition, that was missing from the 2012 game that was promised, instead of just “Canceled it”I think that’s around the time in 2013 when I got that news & then wrestling business started to fall apart like WCW did

  3. Sid says:

I’ve been a wrestling fan since 1984 and to be honest, I know that it had its lows, but as of now it just seems to me that it really sucks.I’ve even noticed that more and more it’s been really hard to watch it anymore because it has sucked for the past few years. And 3 hours of Monday night Raw,we only get to see 4 till 7 matches with compared to the past, between 2 hrs.we got to see 6-8 matches. Of coarse the wrestlers who I liked either left, injured, or have a slim amount of days they work now..CM.Punk,Undertaker, Brock Lesnar, Daniel Bryant, A.J.&Sting who should of won his 1st.match at Wrestlemania instead Triple H had to be like Hogan and made sure he won with pointless interference that made no sense at all because I think everyone that follows wrestling knows that HHH & the clit kliq are good friends and everybody knows how Sting stands. Nobody cares about what’s best for business? If they really did they would be more “Wrestling on the WWE NETWORK “instead of Crappy non related shows.I thought by now. They would have filled up Raw,Smackdown, TNT.,Primetime Wrestling, WCW NITRO all other NWA./WCW,Programs AWA,UWF,SMW,WCCW’& Other Classic Wrestling TV.programs that is making me feel like cancelling the WWE NETWORK &watch YOUTUBE, because that’s how bored I am with WWE turning into WCW’s dying days. And Cena like Hogan, I hate seeing them constantly with everyone trying their best to change us Cena haters, because they wasting time on him. He’s 1 reason why I hate WWE RIGHT NOW. AND ON THE TOPIC OF DVD’S,I WISH WWE WOULD HAVE THESE MADE:JESSE”THE BODY “VENTURA, A MANAGERS WITH THE WRESTLERS THEY MANAGED,NWA,AWA THE EARLY 80’S WCCW, UWF MID-SOUTH, ANDRE THE GIANT,OF COURSE THESE ARE 2ND.MORE MATCHES ,FREEBIRDS,&Lots of others.

  4. Anan says:

Hart Of Gold is a nice title for an Owen Hart set. I hope we get some pranks stories as Owen was a well documented prankster.

  5. Shane C. Montgomery says:

Being a fan of the Hart Family Dynasty I want to own this DVD. I do not see how it would be in bad taste to release this, sounds like his wife is still upset at the WWE but in all fairness, she is punishing Owen’s fans by not letting this be released. WWE will not run out of money because if this DVD never sees the light of day so why not go the route Mrs. Warrior went and honor the memory of her late husband with a DVD?

    • LP1 says:

I’ll tell you exactly why Owen’s wife doesn’t go down the same route as Warrior’s wife. Because Warrior didn’t die in the middle of WWE’s ring. WWE wasn’t responsible in any way for Warrior’s death. Had Warrior died under the same exact circumstances that Owen died, I highly doubt Warrior’s wife and kids would be on good terms with WWE.

  6. Roly says:

    Fair play, sorry man

  7. RabidHeat says:

Not this boring debate again, guys. Look, everybody’s entitled to their opinion regardless of which side you’re on here, but seriously, these threads are so flippin’ boring now. Moaning about something that isn’t even any of your business really – just let WWE and Martha Hart deal with it in their way. All the points below were made on the last thread about the Owen DVD – we don’t need it all again.

  8. josh says:

I don’t think WWE should go through with the Owen Hart dvd. That’s a shame, because that’s one video set that I would like to see be released. If Martha doesn’t approve of it, I don’t think WWE should go through with it. It probably won’t stop them, they’ll end up putting it out anyway. Just like with the Goldberg set they put out a few years back. Goldberg didn’t approve of it and they still put that one out. They didn’t even use him for the video set, didn’t have any interviews with him or anything. I’d like to see an Owen Hart video set get released, but if Martha doesn’t approve of it or back it, I don’t think WWE should release it.

    • Sid says:

That’s your opinion but the majority of the WWE fans want to see this set because they deserve it.

      • David says:

Deserve what exactly? Martha has every right to hate WWE and not approve this DVD…its not her problem fans can’t separate fiction from reality. She lost her husband and the father of her children due to an avoidable situation but WWE still went ahead with that stupid stunt. I don’t think she will ever forgive WWE and she has is not wrong in doing so.

I think an Owen DVD will be great no doubt, but without his wife and children’s approval it doesn’t seem right for WWE to continue releasing it.

Yes, they are respecting is legacy but also going against his family’s wishes and i don’t mean Bret, Bruce, etc, i mean Martha, Oje and Athena, his real family…the comment about the fans being Owen’s second family was the stupidest thing i ever read.

        • Sid says:

The fans deserve a owen hart dvd set, they’ve clamored for one for years now and it’s about time they get what they want. what happened to owen was tragic but she needs to move on as its been over 15 years since his death. life is too short to hold grudges. bret hart made amends after wwe double crossed him after 10 years with the company, the poffo family made amends with wwe after the years of bad blood between them and savage. fans will be happy with a owen hart dvd, with or without martha’s support. the hart family dvd did just well without her and so will this. btw, i never said anything about the fans being a second family but they don’t wanna see owen’s legacy buried.

          • attitude.era.4life says:

comparing the issues of Bret and Savage to the Owen tragedy, that takes the price in here, I have to say…if one can put them up as equal issues, you might as well have the Benoit tragedy in there too.

If they release it, so be it.. and I might get it..but, the legacy of Owen is in all the matches that already are out there involving him..what some say in here, that we the fans need this release to cement Owen’s legacy, is just plain rubbish..it already exists on physical medias and on the Network.

            • Sid says:

wwe didn’t intentionally kill owen, it was an accident. wwe however did intend to screw and double cross bret. but bret realised life is too short to hold grudges and didn’t want his matches and legacy to be kept locked in a vault and made amends with wwe … wwe paid the harts and martha millions of dollars over the accident and martha needs to move on from this accident. not all of owen’s matches are on the network or youtube. there are heaps more unreleased matches of his locked away in the vault and wwe’s upcoming dvd is another way for them to release those matches and another avenue for martha’s kids to get to know their father.

          • LP1 says:

“She needs to move on as its been over 15 years since his death.” My god. Go tell his children, that never really knew their father, that it’s time to move on. THIS is probably dumber than the second family comment.

            • Sid says:

their children are old enough to speak for themselves. i don’t see how this dvd stops them from getting to know what their father was like. the documentary, matches and hart family members speaking on it. they might avoid it but sooner or later they’ll eventually tune in. if anything’s dumb, it’s you have a dumb sook mate.

              • Roly says:

It’s posts like this that make me wonder why i use this site.

I understand why wrestling gets a bad press and why advertisers want to stay away from it now.

  9. Roly says:

    My twopenneth:

    1. To anybody who thinks WWE are releasing this set for any reason other than to make money…well, do I even have to point out the obvious?

    2. Nobody is saying that Martha has any legal right to stop this set being produced. It’s a matter of taste, not legalities.

    3. Martha has always felt the same about how WWf/E use Owen’s image, and has never changed. She blames (rightly or wrongly) them for her husbands death. As the legal owner of Owen’s estate she is the only Hart family member who matters when it comes to such things. So Bret can be interviewed all he wants, he wasn’t Owen’s wife.

    4. And at the end of the day, Owen was a huge family man. Regardless of how we as fans would like to see the footage, we all know that he would have backed his wife in any decision she made about this. To claim that the fans were his second family is one of the strangest comments I’ve ever seen posted on this site.

I personally beleive that WWE should 100% take Martha’s feelings into account. Not because there may be a lawsuit, but because this is dealing with real people and real feelings.

Forget the $’s for once and do the right think Vince, pull this set.

    • LP1 says:

Roly, you’re using logic and common sense. You’re going to have to stop that.

    • J says:

No go forward with this Owen set WWE. Owen damn sure would not want his wife erasing all his matches and footage from the fans regardless of how she views the business

      • LP1 says:

His wife isn’t erasing anything. There are tons of Owen’s matches, including every one of his PPV matches, on the WWE Network right now for fans to see.

        • Zak says:

Exactly what do you think the internet’s for? Just because WWE isn’t handing you a set of Owen matches doesn’t mean that fans can’t go looking for the stuff themselves

    • josh says:

I totally agree with Roly. I feel that this video set shouldn’t be released. As I said, however, they’ll probably put it out anyway.

  10. Zak says:

I voted no myself. Reason being that I am under the firm belief that if Martha doesn’t approve of it then it would just be opening up more hassle than its worth going through with it. By asking her first it means they take her into consideration (which they have done a poor job with since 1999) and if she says no at least WWE would put her input before their own and thus take a small step forward in repairing the relationship between the two parties

  11. Mark Markson says:

I see this release as a tribute to Owen. A set that fans of his can enjoy, and remember him for the great person and wrestler he was.

Wrestlers get royalty checks when their matches are included on DVDs. The money Owen would have gotten, goes to Martha. So it’s not like there is nothing to gain for her or her kids from an Owen Hart set.

I could see her being furious, if it was a release a la The Self Destruction of the Ultimate Warrior.

  12. victory73 says:

I voted No. Without the support of Martha this release would be in poor taste. I don’t need a set on Owen that bad.

  13. Brad Attitude says:

Of course she does not support the project. God forbid the fans get something of Owen finally. Really irks me because had he not did what he did for a living, She would never have had the lifestyle she had for so many years. The Fans Loved Owen too, and its BS that she would keep him from them in anyway shape or form. Purely selfish is all I can say…..

    • LP1 says:

Wow. The ignorance here is at an all time high. This isn’t about Martha keeping Owen away from his fans. This is about Martha not wanting the company that is partially responsible for her husband’s death making any money off of him. Why is that so hard for so many people to understand?

      • SRB says:

LP1, why does it always need to get personal with you? Calling people ignorant and telling people it’s hard for them to understand things? Making fun of people on this site because they care about cover artwork? Why can’t you accept someone else’s opinion? You know that we all sit here and listen to yours. Quit being a bully just because people don’t agree with you. What’s next? Gonna steal our lunch money?

        • LP1 says:

This isn’t about accepting someone else’s opinion. When someone calls a woman, who’s husband(the father of her children) died while working for a company, that she wants nothing to do with, “selfish”, yes that’s ignorant. Until you’ve lost a loved one in a tragic incident that could’ve been avoided, like I have, then you have no right to call anyone selfish. That is an absolutely ignorant comment.

      • Scott says:

She didn’t have a problem taking 100% of what was left on his contract though. VKM went above and beyond what his legal team requested. she must also think about his second family which was the fans he performed in front of. Its not about her or even the fans. Its about preserving his legacy

  14. J says:

Screw Martha. Keep moving forward with this project WWE. I like the name of the DVD and look forward too hearing the content and seeing the Artwork for the DVD

  15. Justin F says:

I smell another Owen Hart lawsuit coming.

    • Kenny says:

She can’t stop WWE from using their own property. She’s already been told (at least once) that they’re within their rights to make these DVDs.

Hopefully they remember to send her the royalties this time. Lol!

  16. R&REXPRESS#1 says:

Sorry it’s off topic but I have a question about the Jerry Lawler dvd…has anyone else had trouble finding it in stores? I’ve not seen it at all in any wal mart or fye in my area, not even early on the day it was released…it know it’s a popular dvd but I didn’t think it was gonna be THAT big of a seller lol

  17. SRB says:

I doubt Martha cares what I think, but WWE is certainly NOT attempting to make money off of Owen’s death. In fact, they are trying to celebrate his career, which is exactly the opposite. Lots of wrestlers over the years have passed, and they are still in sets. Look at guys like Bam Bam, Yoko, Savage, and Warrior. These careers have been celebrated not for financial gain, but for the benefit of remembrance.

Perhaps Martha feels the way she does because Owen had a long career ahead of him and died so tragically and because the show went on. I’m sure it’s hard not to blame WWE, but they are not attempting to profit from a death. I find that hard to believe.

    • LP1 says:

The only way WWE doesn’t profit off of this is if they give the DVD away for free. Unless they specifically make a note saying all revenue will go to charity, the whole point of selling DVDs and BRs is to make money.

Also I don’t remember any documentaries on Bam Bam and Yoko. Unless I missed something. Also the Savage and Warrior documentaries had the backing and support of their families. Big difference.

      • Joe Stone says:

the Macho Madness dvd didn’t have full support of Savage or the rest of his family.

        • LP1 says:

The Macho Madness DVD came out when Savage was still alive. Again, big difference.

          • SRB says:

I’m totally shocked that LP1 came by just to give me another spanking. You are obsessed with my posts man! Get a life! Telling people on this site they’re ignorant. Why? Because they don’t share your opinion? People don’t need to think like you.

I won’t be commenting on this site anymore since LP1 stalks me night and day, always trying to hit the owners of this site with his 85 year memorized WWE history. Why don’t you hit us with more house show dates of Razor/Diesel. Or wait, maybe that match never happened?

            • LP1 says:

God forbid I express some common sense on this site when it’s sorely needed. You not commenting anymore is your decision to make. Don’t blame anyone else.

      • Justin says:

The closest thing to a Yoko/Bam Bam documentary thats been on a release (that i can think of) would be their character profile on the Greatest Stars of the 90s/True Giants releases. I know a documentary & a profile are two diffrent things but those are the only two things that come to mind as even a touch on them.

        • LP1 says:

Even if WWE decided to make a documentary on Yokozuna, he’s part of the Anoai family and I’m sure they’d have no problem with it. Especially since his kids were there to induct him in the Hall Of Fame.

As for Bam Bam, I don’t know one way or the other how his family feels.

Also keep in mind that neither of those guys died on the job while working for WWE. That’s the key to the whole Owen controversy.

  18. Indyfan says:

Someone posing as me??? Or is there another Indyfan?

The Owen Hart set will most likely be chalked full of repeats. WWE shouldn’t be doing this set if Owens family isn’t behind it.

  19. GEOLINK says:

    Wait… It’s still coming out?…

    • Daniel Bee says:

We never stated it wasn’t coming out.

It’s on a schedule or two we’ve seen – this is the name and release month – so it’s happening (at least on paper).

Martha and her children are however NOT in support. It’ll be WWE’s call I assume.

  20. INDYFAN says:

    Oh that sucks..
