Sadly true. But even then I don’t see the point of this set. A causual fan is more likely to pick up a mysterio DVD, but are they really going to buy 2 of them?! Especially when they are very similar. A documentary was done before but not very well, so I really thought the idea was a true STORY of Mysterio’s career. Why on earth would they do the exact same format twice? It seems like another lazy money maker with very little thought put into it.

On a side note, Rey Mysterio has always been fantastic int he ring, but his character has not developed over time. Being the small man is only a good story so many times. Its not like most other great main eventers where there has been an evolution that makes for a great retrospective. Mysterio’s character has no depth, but he is doing his job as a child super hero and making money in the mexican market i believe and its probably always going to stay the same. His matches are incredibly exciting, but his career story isn’t on the same level as most other top guys.

  3. LP1 says:

Something you have to remember. WWE doesn’t cater to people who buy every single dvd. When they make dvd’s they want dvd’s that will sell to the casual fan. Rey, Cena, DX, etc. keep getting repeated dvd releases because they sell merchandise. While it would be great for an older fan like me and many others to have more rare stuff released, WWE is in the business of making money. And they would sell a ton more of Rey dvd’s then they would a “History Of Georgia Championship Wrestling” dvd for example. There are kids who really don’t care whether or not the same matches have been released already. All they care about is getting a Rey Mysterio dvd. And when you look at WWE’s numbers when it comes to dvd sales, the dvd’s that sell the most are the guys who currently sell the most merchandise. As great as it would be to have a completel box set of every In Your House or King Of The Ring or any other anthology, those sets just don’t sell that well outside of a niche market. That’s the reason the Best Of Raw Season 2 dvd was shelved. It may not be a popular decision amongst hardcore fans, but this is just how it is.

  4. Banjo says:

I dislike documentaries, so I’m glad to see this is jampacked with matches. I watch a documentary once and I hardly ever see it again. but I don’t mind seeing matches multiple times, especially if they’re really good.

this has more matches than the last two John Cena DVDs combined!!

  5. Nate says:

While I like Rey Mysterio, he is no Shawn Michaels when it comes to deserving three DVD’s. This probably will be one of those “If I find it for $10 at Wal-Mart in a year” purchases.

The unmasked era of Rey Mysterio in WCW will probably stay burried since it take away some of his mystique in WWE (the DVD cover being a prime example). We probably won’t ever see it until Rey retires and we get the documentary DVD, if even then.

  6. Ryan William Harris (Esq.) says:

Some odd choices on the last couple discs. The Morrison match is already on Morrison’s DVD, they could have had one of Mysterio’s TV matches with Jericho instead. The only good match he had with Kane was the Street Fight from Cyber Sunday, and yet the pick the one that ends with a non-finish. Instead of the 4 Way match, they should have picked the Swagger match from Money in the Bank that was 10x better. Why have the match with Cody where he lost? Why not include the Falls Count Anywhere match, where he WON? The match with Orton I was hoping would be on Orton’s DVD, but it might still be considering how WWE loves to recycle and reuse these matches over and over.

  7. 3:16 says:

All the WWE PPV matches on this set I already own

  8. 3:16 says:

I wish there was less WWE matches and more WCW and ECW matches

The first Disc looks fantastic, lots of WCW Saturday Night & Nitro footage. WCW era Mysterio was gold & he rarely ever had bad matches there (excluding his fued w/ Nash). Disc 2 is pretty meh w/ the obvious gem being Mysterio/Morrison from SD, an easy MOTYC in 2008 & maybe the best free TV match of that year. Disc 3 has some very good matches if you dont own those PPV’s on DVD already. Wish there was some more stuff from WCW, considering shows like – Thunder/Saturday Night – havent even been really tapped into yet. Looks like a decent supplement to his previous DVDs if nothing else.

  10. Austin says:

No Mysterio/Guerrero Halloween Havoc 97? Haha just kidding :p

  11. indyfan says:

looks awesome. Can’t wait to get it. They already released a documentry. And you can get it cheap.

  12. I was hoping to get a documentary too, I think this is just a release for younger Rey fans and whilst its a good line up, I was hoping for something a little more interesting.

  13. Anonymous says:

damnit i thought this was gonna be a documentary.. now its just filled with boring matches -.-

  14. Anonymous says:

Damn! I was really hoping the ECW matches were gonna be rare. You can easily find those two matches on Youtube. Ah whatever, both matches are amazing, I recommend watching them. Listing seems pretty good, would’ve liked to see his match with Jericho from Bash 09. Might check it out for the WCW matches as they look very good.

  15. straightedge47 says:

I think it looks awesome, only 2 of the matches I already own(thats good for a WWE set these day) looking forward to it.

  16. SRB says:

Rey has been wrestling for a long time and was on ECW TV, Nitro, Thunder, RAW and SD for a VERY long time.. I’m so sick of these mexican lucha libre matches i cant even tell you. I know thats what his career is mostly composed of, but THATS THE PROBLEM. so anytime you release anything on him thats what youre getting. No variations, no stipulations. Just the same old match with juvi to see who can do the best hurricanrana.

  17. Vincenzzzzzo says:

why do they keep making dvds of wrestlers we already have dvds of? i wanna see legends of wrestling dvds, wcw dvds, ecw ppv dvds, etc, etc. Somkey mountain wrestling dvds. whatever.

  18. Mark D says:

To be fair there ain’t that many ECW matches with Rey not already released, off the top of my head I can only think of 2. One is vs Mikey Whipwreck which aired on Hardcore TV (which was fan cam footage and only a couple of minutes of it) the other is a tag match from House Party 96 (w/ 911?). Although I do agree about repeating PPV matches. Like why not have the Rey/Kane no dq match from the UK Raw, Rey/Jericho IC match from the (3forAll?) RAW. Plus he had some v.good tag matches on Raw with Evan Bourne vs MIz/Morrison and there was a good match vs Kofi in the IC #1 contender torney in Dec 08.
Also I think the date is wrong on the SD match vs Alberto should it not be Oct 8 (the first show on Syfy) not ’18’.

  19. Steve Giordano says:

WWE will never truly get what fans want with these DVD sets. The people who buy there DVD’s buy the PPV’s also! Stop putting ppv matches from the last three years on DVD sets! We have them already! Put matches that aren’t on a million DVD’s already! This set should be majority ECW and WCW! Yes he has had great moments in WWE but we want to see old Mysterio matches. They always tease us with great titles and then the content is piss poor at best. Just like the cage match DVD, more crap we have seen already and i on other dvd sets. Maybe while they are at it they should put the Steamboat vs. Savage match on a few more DVD’s! Better yet they should just make a set and documentary about that match ad repeat it 15 times. I almost wish they would just stop making 3 disc sets with repeat matches and just make documentaries only.

  20. SRB says:

not a big fan of Mysterio in general. If I’m correct this is his 3rd DVD release (619 set, biggest little man, and now this) it’s amazing to me that WWE continues to release these 3 discs on DX, Mysterio and Wrestlemania sets where the footage can easily be found. Yet, they completely ignore much needed sets for guys like Rick Rude, British Bulldog and Andre The Giant. I cant believe that to this date there is not a 3 disc on HHH. To me, Mysterio’s entire career was the same moves and the same fueds with the same guys. Chavo, Eddie, Juvi and Psicosis completely make the set as they make Rey’s other sets as well. I’m glad there are about 30 matches here. But, Mysterio going against the Guerrero’s in WCW is like Hogan vs. Savage on a set.. Give me a break.

  21. Skyler Jones says:

It looks like we might never get any of his late WCW stuff when he was unmasked.
