  1. Robert says:

All I’m gonna say is it is a good set of matches, but do we really need another DVD set of John Cena?

  2. The Panda says:

What I worry about is that like the last Cena Blu-Ray set and many old Cena matches on other people’s sets and in new WWE videos is that for pre-’09 matches they’re going to edit out any reference to his moves being the “F-U” and “STF-U.” Besides what an overall annoyance it is as a sheer concept, the fact that they go the extra mile to edit out ENTIRE SECTIONS OF DIALOUGE to achieve this is what kills me. It’s the finish to a match and it’s 30 seconds of unnatural silence. This won’t be a problem for his matches with Rock or Punk, but it can be a huge hinderance for his Triple H, Edge and Jericho (if he’s in it) matches. I’m dead serious, this is the only thing that would keep me from buying this set, and I would seriously consider not buying it for that reason alone. It’s the verbal equivelant of the old blurring of the scratch logo.

  3. Wonderllama says:

The WrestleMania 23 main event should have been here instead. That match is really underrated for some reason, and has also not been included in any compilation set. It’s shorter too, so the extra time could have been used elsewhere. It was a signature victory in John Cena’s career.

    • Vintage Simon says:

Pretty sure it was on Mr. WrestleMania, released just five months ago. But I do agree that this is a really underrated match.

  4. Roly says:

Looking forward to this set tbh. One of my fave Cena fueds was with Edge and particuarly their TLC match at Unforgiven 06. Would be nice to see that in HD on the set.

    • Vintage Simon says:

If you’d rather not wait, you can find this match in HD on Edge’s career retrospective Blu-Ray (You Think You Know Me?)

      • Roly says:

Cheers mate. I can never keep track of which matches are on which sets.

Don’t suppose anybody has ever made a spreadsheet with match listings of all the dvds???

        • Vintage Simon says:

          No worries.

Not quite a spreadsheet, but I’ve got separate Word docs for every year, listing each match and segment in chronological order and a note with which release it’s on. Took a while to put together, but definitely worthwhile – especially if you want to go back and indulge in a specific year.

FWIW, the longest list of the lot is 2006. I’d put that down to the sheer volume of TV matches from The New & Improved DX set.

          • Roly says:

Don’t suppose you’d be willing to share it?

            • Vintage Simon says:

I can email you some examples if you’d like, but I don’t own every DVD, so the lists only contain matches on titles I own. It’s pretty comprehensive, but not watertight, so they’ll need adding to (or subtracting from). Maybe if there’s enough interest, this is something I can work on with Daniel to add onto the site somewhere.

        • worst episode ever says:

It’s no spreadsheet, but there’s a massive results page at http://www.thehistoryofwwe.com/ringresults.htm

If you look up a specific match it usually has a link to any DVDs it’s appeared on.

          • Roly says:

            Cheers guys looks good.

Daniel, have you thought about adding something like a match to dvd database to the site? Would be an awesome addition, and might not be too hard to pull together if guys like Simon and websites like the above have done the donkey work?

  5. Justin F says:

Skipping it. I might buy the DVD when it’s on sale.

  6. TheManInBlu says:

I’m more and more tempted with this set. Say what you will about Cena, but he’s had tons of great matches and made a lot of wrestlers look good. I wonder why they’re revealing matches at a trickle. Why not give us the full list?

    • attitude.era.4life says:

Imagine it is Christmas evening day..the build up, slowly revealing all the goodies.. or something.. 😉

  7. Travis says:

I wonder if the match against Michaels from Raw will be unedited (i.e. include the portions that were interrupted by commercials). Is that how it was on the HBK DVD release “The Shawn Michaels Story – Heartbreak & Triumph”?

    • attitude.era.4life says:

both on the Michaels release and on the extra for Live in the UK October 2007 the match is interrupted with commercials.. If it turns out, that on this release it will be an uninterrupted version, I might consider to get it just for that.

  8. attitude.era.4life says:

Regarding HHH match selection, I am disappointet that they choose the “safe” pick with the WrestleMania 22 match.. it is okay, but I agree with David that noc 08 or a raw match would make a better figure in that rivalry..

The Michaels match from UK is epic and way better than their WrestleMania 23 match, no doubt about it.. But the runtime of that masterpiece – together with the total runtime of the set – makes me guess, that the Iron man match against Orton will not be on there, as it is highly unlikely that wwe puts on 2 one-hour matches on one set. (unless of course, if it is a Iron man anthology, which would be great in my opinion).

Since I already have the Michaels match on 2 releases, I likely pass on this one, but, you’ll never know.. 🙂

  9. David says:

I thought Cena vs. HHH from Night of Champions 2008 and on RAW in October 2009 were better, but i guess they just wanted include the one from WM where Cena won.

The WM22 match is still really good though.

Nice that they included 55 minute classic with HBK.

    • Kenny says:

How in the world do you remember that Cena fought Hunter on a random Raw in 2009?! I’ll go one further… how in the world do you remember how it was?!?! Lol! You’ve got a better memory than me! I don’t remember a match from Raw 2 weeks ago.

      • attitude.era.4life says:

Raw in 2009 was way better, thus more rememberable than it is today, could be one reason. 😉

        • SRB says:

Agreed Kenny. I’ve been watching a long time, but am always impressed when people say something like, “Man, I wish his match with Davey Boy from Philadelphia Spectrum was here.” I’m like, what? lol

          • attitude.era.4life says:

it’s problaly what you call Die Hard fans.. 🙂

I remember in sleep several matches and promo segments from favorite ppvs, shows or sets, that have influence to why I love wrestling.. some segments “speak to me” more than other.. example: Punks Pipe-bomb for one of the later.. really groundbreaking and out of the ordinary..

another from a different era: wrestlemania 7: davey boy vs. the warlord.. for me visually totally awesome that match.. I could go on.. but, I won’t, don’t worry.. lol

  10. Domenic Ricci says:

The Shawn Michaels match is worth the price alone!!

  11. SRB says:

John Cena vs. Shawn Michaels – Another classic Michaels performance. Excellent match.
