Breaking: WWE SummerSlam 2011 Blu-ray Cancelled?

August 17, 2011 by Daniel Bee

Having just checked the WWE Home Video schedule that we have access to, it appears the entry for the SummerSlam 2011 Blu-ray has been removed.

This does NOT confirm it has been cancelled and it does seem unusual. However, keep in mind when this occurred for Capitol Punishment and Money in the Bank those two titles did not make it to Blu-ray.

A planned 2-Disc DVD edition of SummerSlam was also dropped from the same schedule recently

Our information relates only to North America, and we know SummerSlam is available to pre-order on Blu-ray in the United Kingdom right now.

  1. Daniel Bee says:

Ha, thanks Nate. I always seem to do that.

  2. Nate says:

    lol u guys put 2001 instead of 2011 😀 but a damn shame….

  3. LP1 says:

    Epic Fail!

  4. Michael says:

Just checked Best Buy’s site and now they only show pre-order for Summerslam on dvd. I guess they already got the memo saying no blu-ray.

  5. JFR_WWfE79 says:

How come it is still on their site then?

  6. Steve says:

“I just got a notice from amazon saying it was no longer being offered and redirected me to the DVD listing, so yeah, I’d say it’s cancelled.”

    same. oh well

  7. Eric says:

I just got a notice from amazon saying it was no longer being offered and redirected me to the DVD listing, so yeah, I’d say it’s cancelled.

wwe is really pissing me off

I liked the idea of them just doing single disc blue rays as it hardly raised the price and would make me much likely to buy them. They should keep doing that.

  10. Anonymous says:

Gonna buy it on DVD as always but I have to say blu ray is going down for Wwe maybe they should only keep it on the best releases they have 🙂

  11. Anonymous says:

If this appears to be true, I won’t buy it on DVD. I also pre-ordered the blu ray version and I am not making the change. IF they do cancel it however, they might just consider stopping their broadcasts in HD and remove all references to WWEHD, at ringside as well as in the upper left corner of the television screen. If at WWE, they make (ridiculous) choices, then they should at least be consistent.

  12. Steve says:

guess if it’s cancelled it’ll save me some money. already have it preordered on bluray, not gonna get it on dvd though

  13. Anonymous says:

Sucks for ppl that buy blu rays

  14. Mac says:

When you say 2 disc dvd edition that was also canceled do you mean a different version that they were going to release (but arnt) or are you still refering to the blu ray?

    • Daniel Bee says:

Mac: A different version. First of all a single disc DVD, double disc DVD and single disc Blu-ray were down on the schedule. Now, only the single disc DVD is on there.

Maybe there’s an innocent reason for it but last time this happened it meant the Blu-ray was cancelled.

  15. APD says:

Yes Dave, how very dare people not upgrade to blu ray to please you, how very dare they indeed.

  16. Mike Elmo says:

Good. Blu ray should be reserved for memorable 5 star events… like MITB ’11. SummerSlam sucked.

  17. JFR_WWfE79 says:

Well, this totally sucks. I’ll agree with Daves quote comment. At my local Walmart they have a Vizio BD Player for $88 and for about $30 you can get a Vizio 3D BD Player. I hope SummerSlam 2011 will get the Blu-ray treatment.

  18. Voelkster says:

This is why I am not ready to make the switch to Blu-ray yet.

  19. Dave says:

Damn that sucks…stubborn people can’t handle the fact blu-ray is the future are ruining it for people that would love to have WWE ppvs on blu-ray. First Capitol Punishment, then Money in the Bank and now possibly Summerslam.

The whole “well bluray players are expensive” can’t be an excuse anymore, you can get a good one for at least $100 and your DVDs are still playable and even upscales them.

  20. Joseph L says:

Bummer! Just picked up MITB at Wal Mart for $15. Can buy online and they ship to the store for you as well.

  21. John31 says:

Really, No Summerslam on Blu-Ray, Noooo. Sucks we didn’t get MITB on Blu-Ray, but come on at least Summerslam. They should have Best Buy Exclusives!
