News has been making the rounds of late that WWE is producing a documentary on the late Randy Savage, which could end up as a DVD/Blu-ray or a WWE Network feature. Word is that several wrestling personalities have already been interviewed for the production.
Adding to the speculation, our own Aaron Carnevale sends along this note:
I was listening to my local radio for the Cincinnati Reds baseball game. The announcer was talking about Macho Man (who played 2 years of minor league ball with Cincinnati), and he said that WWE came to Great American Ball Park to interview Marty Brennaman for a future Macho Man DVD.
Below is another look at the Payback 2014 cover artwork, as revealed yesterday.
As of now, the Blu-ray version will be released only to fans in the UK and Europe. That can be pre-ordered here on WWEDVD.co.uk and releases on August 18th.
The Batista “Animal Unleashed” DVD officially hit stores across the United States yesterday. Look out for it in the UK from June 23rd and Australia from July 2nd.
For reasons unknown, the new DVD/Blu-ray is “temporarily out of stock” on Amazon.com.
Speaking of Amazon, the WWE “Men of Mayhem” DVD is still listed here on Amazon.com, and the release date of June 17th (next week) is still planned.
It is unknown what this title is but speculated to be a double pack of previous WWE DVDs.
WDN reader Rick Velazquez sends word of some price drops on TNA Home Video downloads on the Playstation Store. HD versions are $3.99 each, while SD versions are $2.99.
It’s also noteworthy that the Playstation Store has a few of the more recent WWE DVD releases available too, such as the Greatest Factions set and Signature Sounds: The Music of WWE.
I hope these matches are on the Savage DVD.

Almost all of those matches listed were dark matches at TV tapings. Most likely none of them even exist on video. There’s a common misconception that just because dark matches took place at TV tapings that they were filmed. That’s not true. WWE only filmed matches they planned on using for Coliseum Video releases. Very rarely did they film anything else.
Hope the randy savage dvd will go into detail about his time in Memphis and his long feud with Jerry “the King” Lawler.
did anyone have any iusse’s getting Batstia’s new dvd from Amazon? I pre ordered mine and have not gotten it yet. They said they need to time to find it.
In my town, where we have 3 Best Buys, there were literally 2 copies of the Batista set available and this was only at one store. The other stores did not have it. I’m glad I got one, but have no clue why it seems rare.
Not in very high demand I imagine 😉
At the Walmart by me they have 2 slots for the Batista DVD & 2 slots for the Ultimate Warrior DVD.
The 2 Batista slots are crammed full & the Ultimate Warrior slots are restocked daily, they can’t keep it on the shelves.
I even asked a clerk who worked the home video department & he said they have yet to sell a Batista DVD.
BUT he said they sold 9 copies of the new Ultimate Warrior DVD in the last day & a half alone.
Anybody know what the men of mayhem DVD is?
I hope if there is a new Savage DVD is not only a documentary but has like maybe 10-15 unreleased matches included some of his stuff from MSG with Tito in Spring of 1986, Savage/Adonis vs Bruno/Tito Cage Match, Savage vs Steamboat from Maple Leaf Gardens in Feb 1987, Savage vs Dibiase from Philadelphia Spectrum from Sept 1988, Savage vs Warrior from Feb 1989, Savage vs Duggan the match where he won the crown and then his defense of the crown from 10/89, Dusty vs Savage from SNME, Savage vs Flair from Superbrawl 6, Savage vs DDP 3 from Havoc 1997, Savage vs Sting from Spring Stampede 1998, amoung others.
another set with the über-happy Dusty Rhodes hosting, talking jibberish.. or am I the only one, that does not get half of the sentences he speaks on sets like Wargames and Clash..? not, that he has’nt knowledge..I know and respect that..I just do not think that he in the role as a host does that great a work.. hope it is possible to skip chapters– 🙂
I agree that we could see a HOF and a Ultimate set on The Undertaker next year:
– This year is 30 years since he (Mark) debuted in wrestling –
– 4 days prior to WM 31 Undertaker turns 50 –
– I gotta a feeling that he will compete one last time at that WM…and win..in a untraditional way.. my guess is he faces Cena.., so the streak record will state: 22-2… 222! do not know what the numbers will mean, but looks and sounds cool in a way, in the Undertaker style way..
dumbass me.. Undertaker should loose, if my numbers mystery shall fulfill.. 🙂
If Undertaker wins next year at Mania it doesn’t ADD to the streak. The streak ended at 21 and can never be added to.
A Undertaker documentary would be fine but what matches could be used that haven’t already been released could they use,
Savage project is def planned as Meltzer is reported it weeks ago. Forgot to post it here since I hardly visit anymore.
Like how Meltzer reported that Paul Heyman’s DVD will be centered around Brock Lesnar breaking the streak? — Which it actually isn’t. …and I’m still waiting for the Mysterio DVD he reported was going ahead.
I subscribe to the Observer and never remember reading about the Heyman DVD being all about the streak. Also he did talk about the Mysterio DVD. It was being put off because of Rey’s contract status with the company. Rey hasn’t been on the best of terms with WWE lately with all the injuries and also not signing a new long term extension to his contract.
Well on May 12th I read him state the DVD would be “built around Heyman as the guy who managed the guy who broke Undertaker’s streak”.
What was the “hardly visit anymore” shot all about? There’s a better place to get WWE DVD news, seriously? 😀
I’m very surprised that in the recent DVD poll there was not even an option to encourage an Undertaker DVD, which would document his life and career. After all of the releases and suggestions and polls over the years, Taker has had lackluster releases. A documentary on Taker is far more needed than a Sting set, especially because Sting has been heavily featured on many sets in the past few years. Why Taker needs to remain such a mystery is beyond me.
Just my opinion, but I think they might be putting ‘Taker in the HOF next year & are waiting to include this to make the dvd complete….just a thought.
I would love to see another Randy Savage set. He is one of the all-time greats. OOOOO YEAH!
