Update on “Best of WWE Eras” DVD Series – Each Volume a 4 Disc Set?

March 1, 2012 by Daniel Bee

Thanks to Thomas, below is a look at the Cue Entertainment magazine article (Feb 2012) which mentions “Best of WWE Era” type DVD releases in the works.

As you can see it reveals four volumes (Best of 1985-1989, 1990-1994, 1995-1999, & 2000-2004) planned by WWE, and refers to each as four-disc sets. The article appears to suggest all four will be released to the UK in June.

We’ve read the article in it’s entirety and whilst the theme is planned releases to the UK market, the titles referred to are all worldwide WWE DVD and Blu-ray features, and not UK exclusives. There may have been some schedule changes since this article was written because it infers Best of WCW Clash of the Champions will be released after these “Best Of WWE” volumes, but we know that probably is not the case because the Clash DVD follows the new Edge set.

Nonetheless, it’s some valuable insight into what WWE has planned.

Well, did anyone hear any news regarding these previously scheduled items? 🙂

  2. Daniel Bee says:

We have a later post on the site which says much the same thing, that they are/were under discussion and not confirmed.

It’s all a bit odd if you ask me, since “just something being discussed” is now the verdict after somebody there stated to a DVD mag that four volumes are on the way, at the same time (month given), each a 4-disc set and they cover the years 1985-2004? Very specific info to share, in with mentioning the likes of The Rock’s DVD, Edge and Clash of the Champions also on the way.

Perhaps they jumped the gun a little and plans have changed since then. We’ve seen first hand having WWE’s full year schedule for 2011 that titles frequently change.

    Thanks for that link Arnold….
“is it true that Best of WWE Era DVD volumes are coming out this year to silvervision ?”

Silvervision.co.uk Afraid not. Just something that was being discussed.

“Silvervision – That’s not the plan at the moment, no.”

It’s probably planned at some point to re-issue some classic old footage, but its all about finding new ways of presenting it.

Will be uk exclusive. Tuck it back in your pants

  5. Justin says:

Looks like an awesome collection, But what about The Best Of 2005 – 2009? I’m most looking forward to 1995 – 1999 years (the attitude era). Hope this gets released in Canada too.

  6. Vincenzzzzzo says:

I think these may be the WWE Vintage Collection shows that air on TV somewhere, I don’t know where, but I watch it on youtube all the time. Mean Gene Okerlund hosts the shows. That would be cool if this was it.

  7. Harry Faversham says:

Thats like saying nevermind what Jack The Ripper did, he was bloody good at his job. I was a big Benoit fan before but you people are either sick or have no moral conscience whatsoever. Nevermind life and death. Doesn’t matter unless something comes between you and your wrestling footage. I know Benoit was sick in the head, but most psychopathic murderers are. It might be easy for some of you to overlook and its not for me to think for you, but maybe you should think about what you are saying and what it really means.

  8. Featherbeak says:

i’m curious how wwe will do 2000-2004, hopefully they will not fuck it up. i wanna see some chris benoit footage, even if they wont add matches

  9. attitudefan says:

How do I get a region free dvd or blu ray player. I’ll want to finish my own survivor series anthology and the only way to do that is to get 97-00 on dvd. Any help would be appreciated

  10. Simon says:

Have all the superstars mentioned had their own dedicated Vintage Collection specials on Sky Sports since the show started? If so, it’s those I’d imagine.

  11. Jerry says:

Looks promising, I do think they should redo the years they put on each set. It doesn’t make sense to have 1995 (and even some 1996) on the set that represents the Attitude Era.

  12. Harry Faversham says:

The Vintage Collection shows are usually a mix and dont usually feature matches all from the same era. The ‘attitude era’ DVD might be the last 2 ‘era’ dvds. Who knows. But I can’t see WWE releasing DVDs on the same ‘era’ twice within the same year whether you call it ‘attitude’ or 1999 or whatever.

  13. Andrew says:

When they list each star, do they mean they will each get a disc?

  14. GSK says:

Might just be the wwe vintage programmes on sky sports put onto DVD

  15. Harry Faversham says:

It has the potential to be one of the best things they’ve ever put out, but as you said its best not to get our hopes up. Personally if it was the legit biggest matches I would like it if it was done well. Its not like you can buy a complete collection of wwe like most other tv shows with it being so vast and I like that idea of a year by year collection. They tried it with Raw but just gave up on it which was a big shame. Whilst a big main events collection would be good there is a lot of stuff from Superstars and things like that which would mix in nicely. I think its a great broad and flexible concept for a dvd release and I hope this is something big and serious for all markets, not just a budget cheap buy for the casual fan. Let’s say someone wants to buy a certain amount of wwe, but not every release, this could be perfect for a casual collector. A bit like the title history dvds maybe, and hopefully like the season 1 & 2 raw dvd.

  16. RabidHeat says:

“Targeting the casual/lapsed fan” is NOT a good sign though.

That probably means each disc contains a few of the biggest matches from the era i.e. simply a selection of the matches we already own on our Tagged Classics/Anthologies. If you’re targeting the CASUAL fan, you tend to not pile on the content and just put the cream of a crop, as a taster of the VERY best of wrestling, to make them a fan, or make them a fan once more after some time away. They need to be able to see the greatness without the fluff, and I just worry that SilverVision are making yet another series which doesn’t appeal to the collector here; well, what is said in that article implies just that.

Too early to say for sure though, obviously. I just wouldn’t get excited if I was you though, otherwise you’ll just be let down when they release sets that simply don’t make use of the run-time of a DVD and contain about an hour of content each.

It will probably be the type of deal where, really, they could fit all the content from one set onto one disc, but since discs hardly cost them anything, they release it as a four-disc set just because you’ll see that there’s four discs and think it’s epic, and buy it without thinking. 🙁

  17. SRB says:

For some reason I can see this being a UK exclusive. And yes, I’ve heard the suggestion about getting a region free player (I have one now) but in the past the UK in general just seems to get better releases with more vault content. I say to myself all the time, “If I ever travel to the UK I am going to every DVD shop I can find.” I’m somewhat confused if WWE is releasing these to the UK only or if this is going to be another Tagged Classiscs situation where the DVDs are put out by a 3rd party. If WWE puts them out then buying them on Amazon won’t be a problem. If it’s Silvervision then those of us in the states might have to go hunting

    • Daniel Bee says:

The article is basically about the upcoming schedule of WWE DVD releases, and I can’t imagine one of that list is UK exclusive, nor that Silver Vision would do exclusive 4-Disc sets. It has no mention of Blu-ray.

I question it a little because it suggests all four sets would come at once, and that they will be released before the clash DVD, but the article is legit with information coming from Silver Vision.

  18. Adam says:

I think it’ll be the Vintage Collection TV show or something like that with Gene hosting.

  19. neverAcquiesce says:

Does the article mention whether these are DVD only, or Blu-ray as well?

  20. HHHfan1999 says:

Really hope they let it hit U.S. I will SO buy it!!!
