February 11, 2012 by Daniel Bee

Thanks to WWEDVDNews readers Steven, Don, Vince, Jamie, Billy, and Richard for passing along this news.

WWE’s planned WCW themed DVD release for later in the year, which we previously reported will feature Dusty Rhodes as host, now looks to be confirmed.

Amazon have put up listings for a new Best of WCW Clash of the Champions set, revealing it will be produced on both DVD and Blu-ray formats, released on May 22nd.

The NWA/WCW Clash of the Champions show format was around from 1988 to 1997, and the main focus of this DVD compilation will most likely be match picks from World Championship Wrestling’s Clash events which ran from 1991 to 1997.

Pre-order Best of WCW Clash of the Champions DVD/BD on Amazon.

We expect to have some exclusive details on this title and the planned Home Video editions of WrestleMania 28 early next week.

With the new Amazon reveals the US schedule currently looks like this:

The Epic Journey of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson [DVD/Blu-ray] – February 21
Royal Rumble 2012 [DVD/Blu-ray] – February 28
Elimination Chamber 2012 [DVD] – March 20
You Think You Know Me – The Story of Edge [DVD/Blu-ray] – April 10
WrestleMania 28 [DVD/Blu-ray] – May 8
Best of WCW Clash of the Champions [DVD/Blu-ray] – May 22
Extreme Rules 2012 [DVD] – May 29

We guessed a Best of War Games DVD, but Clash of the Champions is on the way. So what are your thoughts on it? Leave a comment below!

i think this will be awesome

  2. DX27 says:

I wonder if they will include where NWO was having their 1 year Birthday party and Sting’s bird crashed it and Sting too if I remember correct.

  3. Mark says:

Long overdue, but I would prefer a Anthology release of Clash..There was 35 Clash events, and if you used Double-Sided Discs, you get fit 4 on each dvd. That would mean a 9 disc set for every Clash ever done. Thats how it should be done.

  4. NWO 4 Life says:

He should’ve been in a long time ago. He deserves it more than anybody.

  5. Vincenzzzzzo says:

    @NWO 4 Life

What you, and alot of others DON’T understand is that – Macho Man WILL eventually be in the Hall of Fame. Just because he hasn’t been inducted yet means nothing. WWE cannot induct every wrestlers every year. They have to stetch things out. I wish people would shut up about Macho Man already. HE WILL EVENTUALLY BE INDUCTED!

  6. NWO 4 Life says:

I saw your post on the Facebook page of this Brett and I totally agree with you. Macho Man is way overdue for the Hall of Fame and it comes down to Vince not liking him or Triple H. We might not agree on a lot of things like Bret and Shawn Michaels but we both agree Macho Man was one of the best and needs to be in the Hall of Fame.

  7. NWO 4 Life says:

One match I hope is on this set is Macho Man and Scott Hall vs DDP and Lex Luger from the last Clash of Champions.

  8. R L says:

As much as I dislike repeats I think you have to include Sting vs Flair on this because its only on the Flair dvd from about four years ago Plus it was the main event of the first show and set the tone for what was to come

  9. Brad Attitude says:

i would like to see Ric Flair vs. Sting from the first Clash of Champs. However, I do not wanna see Flair vs. Steamboat II from 1989 as its already on their dvd sets already.

  10. Daniel Bee says:

There is no confirmation of a Best of Wargames DVD also coming, no matter what you are reading. It’s Clash of the Champions and they will probably keep WCW themed releases to one a year.

  11. Isrs4life says:

There will also be one on Wargames, hopefully a Summer release.
I sent news about it but didn’t take a good look on the front page
for Clash of the Champions, Sorry…

This is exciting. But they’ll need to work extra hard (something they seem incapable of doing lately) to make this a worthwhile set. SO many of the great Clash matches have already been released on other sets (GOOD sets that are worth owning), they’ll need to dig deep to come up with a great set.

One repeat I wouldn’t mind is the tag match from the Stone Cold Truth because that DVD sucked.

  13. levister says:

yes need to get i hope they do the best of war games
    the best beach blast
    halloween havock
    fawl brawl

  14. NickP says:

I am really hoping for any Rude vs Sting, or Rude vs Steamboat matches. Also any Stunning Steve Austin or Hollywood Blonde matches.. Please WWE, dont disappoint.

  15. Anonymous says:

I HOPE TO SEE STING VS BLACK SCORPION,STING AND RICKY STEAMBOAT VS RICK RUDE AND STEVE AUSTIN,RICKY STEAMBOAT VS MR WONDERFUL FOR THE TV TITLE,RIC FLAIR VS JUNKYARD DOG,LEX LUGER VS SCOTT HALL,AND LEX LUGER AND DDP VS SCOTT HALL AND MACHO MAN WITH THE CLASSIC STING PROMO AT THE END.

  16. m.blier says:

the match selection should start in 88 not 91 as writen in the above report.if they go with 91 to begin the set ,nothing confirmed yet ,that will exclude the sting vs r.flair 45 mins classic and r.steamboat vs r.flair at coc 6 .hoping for the c.jericho vs e.guerrero at the last clash in 97.

  17. Lemo says:

This set must contain the following:
    Midnight Express vs Fantastics
    Ric Rude vs Sting
    Windham vs Scorpio
Hollywood Blondes vs Steamboat & Douglas
    Vader vs Dustin Rhodes

Also we don’t need repeats such as Flair vs Steamboat for the millions time , or Sting vs Flair or Funk vs Flair ,

  18. Dave says:

    @ Lemo

For bigger releases they haven’t been cutting Ventura’s commentary. Hopefully this will be another big seller so wwe can release more ‘best of’ compilation sets, hope they release wargames, Halloween havoc, great American bash, thunder, etc.

  19. Anonymous says:

hope they include both title matches of hulk hogan vs ric flair in 1994 and 1996. rare classics that’s forgotten.

  20. Lemo says:

Let’s hope they don’t cut Jesse’s commentary out

  21. Jeff Copeland says:

personaly i wanted the best of halloween havoc or great american bash since i did not watch alot of the clashes but this will be good depending on the matches but they should continute with this every year release a wcw like dvd since alot of fans acually miss wcw when it was really damm good

  22. SRB says:

Any WCW release is a major hit in my book. Nice job.

  23. Anonymous says:

    Just great news!

  24. Harry Faversham says:

Would have preferred a best of WCW ppv’s or War Games set, but this will be great too.

  25. vincenzzzzzo says:

Awesome! I can’t wait, especially that it’s coming out on blu-ray too. That’s great. I wish the Nitro set was blu-ray, but. I’m very much looking forward to a Clash of the Champions set…

WWE already has some great DVD sets coming out this year. Can’t wait to see what else they have planned.

I really, really hope WWE eventually releases the Legends of Wrestling roundtable discussions as a anthology. I love that show on WWE Classics.

  26. Daniel Bee says:

I don’t believe they are John. One could assume Silver Vision decided on making them region free behind the scenes because they know of the situation with the PPV Blu-rays in the US, and can reap the benefits with extra sales. Just speculating though.

  27. John Service says:

Quick question here. Does anybody know whether WWE’s North American Blu-Ray releases are region free. I know that the UK exclusives ones from Silervision are, and was wondering if this was was the case with the US Blu Ray discs

  28. Daniel Bee says:

I think it’s a good call by somebody in the comments of the “fantasy cover” article that if the Triple H DVD is really not coming this year, it might be because he’s a part of the Greatest Rivalries set.

For the record JR did say Austin/Rock is absolutely not planned (we made an article about it), and with all due respect to Rocky, I doubt WWE can get him in a room long enough!

  29. scsa says:

yeah it sounds like it, but it also sounds like the Triple H set n the Austin Vs Rock – Greatest Rivlaries is off 🙁

  30. John says:

Sounds like it is going to be a pretty cool set!

  31. NWO 4 Life says:

Also when Daniel and Brett gets the match listing for this DVD and blu-ray, I see if the matches sparks my interest of buying it.

  32. NWO 4 Life says:

I hope they put some NWO matches on this DVD from 1997 Clash of Champions.

  33. regal is underrated says:

Yay! This is going to be fantastic!
