We have now received confirmation and first details of the next WCW themed DVD release that WWE have planned this year – The Best of War Games.
As planned, the release date will be June 25th, 2013 to the United States. We can confirm it will be produced on both DVD and Blu-ray formats.
Below is the official synopsis for The Best of War Games, provided by WWE.
“BITTER RIVALRIES. MONUMENTAL MATCHES.
THE MOST DANGEROUS BATTLES IN SPORTS ENTERTAINMENT.”Take one part Royal Rumble, one part Survivor Series, add in two punishing steel cages- and the result is a battle that spanned two rings and cemented a legacy as one of the most unpredictable and unmistakable matches of all time: War Games. WWE Hall of Famer Dusty Rhodes – the mind behind the mayhem – introduces some of the most famous War Games matches (featuring Ric Flair, Sting, the nWo, and more) and gives viewers a comprehensive look inside NWA/WCW’s most innovative concept that revolutionized sports entertainment.
Expect to see it go up for pre-order on retail sites in the coming weeks.

on the vhs tape of best of wcw/now fall brawl tape (1998) says it features Goldberg, not 1 single match includes him through out the entire tape, the photos on the back of the tape are also photos of wrestlers that do not even appear in the tape, now I am starting to wonder how wcw didn’t go out of business ALOT earlier.
Comparing WCW and ECW and the fact that ECW went out of business only 1 month earlier then WCW did proved ECW was better because Paul never had money to run ECW properly and he wouldn’t even pay the wrestlers for over a year, where on the other hand WCW had a huge pocket of money that seemed limitless
Talk about a worthy DVD in your collection this is one
I Say add them all war games was special no matter who was involved I cant wait for this release some many hidden gems I will be reserving a copy of both speaking of dvds i currently have some WWF/WWE dvds and vhs on Ebay feel free to take a look and bid with confidence with a seller with a sale with a 100 percent feedback

If they are going to do this set right then the first two from 1987, 1989, 1991 and 1992 have to be on there.
1997 should be on there too even with CB. Give me those and I can skip over the crappy one from 93 and all the later ones.
There is one from 1988 that was on either the Dusty DVD or maybe the Road Warriors one, I can’t remember which.
only ones are rise and fall of wcw = 96 war games pillman dvd has i think 92 or 91 nwo revolution has 98 with 3 teams nitro vol 1 has 2000 one horsemen dvd has one from 88 to 90 maybe and i think thats it as far as known war games on other dvds
It doesn’t say ‘anthology’ but I’m pretty sure they would all fit on a 3 disc set. Won’t need to pick and choose.
I will buy the War Games Blu Ray just to have all these matches in well BLU RAY! Yes they may be included in some older sets but the majority of these matches are seeing Blu ray for the first time…
Am i the only person holding out for a Battle Royal Blu ray that has ALL the World War 3 matches on them…
Any matches recorded prior to WWE’s 2008 HD transition, it really doesn’t matter whether they’re released on DVD or Blu-ray. It’s gonna be the same quality either way. All wrestling companies recorded their shows on tape. Tape can’t be digitally remastered to HD. While older movies from 50+ years, for example, can be digitally remastered to HD because those movies were recorded on film. Film is capable of being upgraded while tape can’t. Wrestling companies used tape because it was a lot cheaper. Any matches released on DVD will have the same exact quality as a DVD release if played on a Blu-ray player.
*Meant to say any matches released on DVD will have the same exact quality as a Blu-ray release if played on a Blu-ray player.
i am still hopeing for a best of havoc like they showed on here in there fantsy dvd set that would be sick and a instant buy for me if not then i would asum great american bash be next or havoc if they wanna do one out of the blue could do spring stampede or slamboree or bash at the beach any wcw best off will sell reguardless as far as war games i mean only really wanna see 97 one and maybe 1 other the rest would just repeative after a bit like the cage match dvd u know but people been crying and begging for war games so here u go
One match that will be on it is nWo vs 4 Horsemen and they better show the entire match with Curt Henning slamming the cage door on Ric Flair.
I Hope War Games ’97 is included even though it does have “He Who Shall Not Be Named” in it.
Shoot I was hoping for a best of Fall Brawl with loads of matchs from the event
If you add up the minutes of each professionally recorded War Games match, it totals less than 5 hours. As a result, it’s reasonable to assume that every War Games match should be included in this set.
However, if for some reason every match doesn’t appear on this set, then there are two that simply must be included. The first War Games match from 1987 and the last traditional War Games that took place in 1997 have to be on this. The first has to be there because it was arguably the best and, well, it was the first. The 1997 match was the last time they had a War Games match featuring the traditional two team format. Even if there are only two matches on the entire set, for historical purposes, THESE MUST BE THERE!
Problem with the 97 one is Benoit. They might put it anyway, like the Chamber set, but until we see a listing we won’t know for sure.
If they include every single match except the war games 2000 match that would be truly awesome!!! I will have a reason to complete my wcw dvd collection then!!!!
that nitro one is on vol 1 of nitro dvd 96 war games is on rise and fall of wcw and 98 one made it on the nwo revolution dvd hmmm i think theres 1 on pillman dvd and horsemen dvd so theres still few more to be released but ehh i rather see like best of us title or another best of ppv keep it going u had starrcade then clash of champions i want HALLOWEEN HAVOC >.<!!! or great american bash or superbrawl i think those would sell better but i think personaly wcw dvds are more best sellers i think then same old ecw bla bal stuff i rather see more wcw dvds dispite how bad it was at times wcw dvds i think sell better then most do
True, but a key Wargames match (1992) has yet to be released on DVD. That is considered to be one of the greatest of all time. Also, some of the orginal matches from 1987 and the the one from the GAB ’89 have not been released. I think the demand is there.
Hopefully, it’s like the Chamber set and we get all the nonhouse show ones. That’d rerelease a few, but I’m fine with that.
i hope they dont show the final war games from wcw nitro .. that sucked balls.
There have been plenty of good WCW DVDs up to this point. Rise and Fall of WCW, Starrcade, Clash of the Champions, Best of Nitro Vol. 1 & 2.
But War Games doesn’t need to have its own DVD. I would rather get a “Best PPV Matches of WCW” DVD to fill in the gaps that the other WCW sets don’t provide. It would also include the best War Games, which for most people seem to be the ’91 & ’92 matches. That’s what I would want to buy.
I hope the squeeze benoit in like they did for the elimination chamber dvd
The difference is the Elimination Chamber set was an Anthology. This just seems to be a Best Of. If this was an Anthology then Benoit’s one WarGames match(1997) would have to be included.
I hope the WCW War Games DVD has a mini documentary too. Kind of like the Starrcade set.
wcw rules!
I’m wondering also if some of the great american bash war games matches will be shown that were essentially house show’s, when the g.a.b. was the name of the summer tour that jim crockett promotions put on in the mid-late 80’s before it became a stand alone ppv show
I know War Games matches and that abomination pictured, sir, is no War Games match.
I guess the set won’t include the majority of the less famous War Games matches I’ve noticed alot on here are clammering for?
