Dusty Rhodes today tweeted out “Working on new DVD @Wwe #teamrhodes“, which raises speculation that WWE may be producing a Rhodes Family DVD.
In September of last year a fan survey mentioned this DVD idea for Dusty Rhodes, Cody Rhodes and Goldust, hinting that the format would be a documentary plus matches.
A final reminder that today only here on WWEShop.com all WWE DVDs and Blu-rays are up for grabs 50% off! The only exclusions are the newly released WCW PPV Matches DVD, the upcoming Music of WWE DVD, and the larger Anthology sets.
My voting looked like this:
Raw: 20th Anniversary Collection
The “True Story of WrestleMania” DVD was a waste in my opinion. It was just a big fluff piece with no actual substance. The big 12-disc Raw collection sold out quickly, and was going for an insane amount of money on the secondary market. This was a ‘no-brainer’ to me.
Heartbreak & Triumph: The Shawn Michaels Story
I get people’s love for Mania X-Seven. It was a great show, and it was the pique of the “Attitude Era” boom. I love the show too. However, the matches that took place at Mania X-Seven, with a couple of exceptions, were okay at best. Compare that to the matches on Shawn’s DVD and there’s no contest, in my opinion. THEN, to add insult to injury, you also have a great documentary on one of the biggest icons in WWF history, and in my mind, there’s no rational or logical reasoning to vote for Mania.
The Rise & Fall of ECW
This is the one I figured since the beginning would be in the finals, and possibly win. This disc was incredibly popular, was the most honest, and was about a topic that so many people look back with rose-colored glasses with. I was never a big fan of ECW, but I thought this doc is one of the best the WWF has ever done. Plus, the one thing that it has over every single DVD in this competition is the fact that it sparked the revival of the ECW letters. No other DVD in this competition has had the impact and legacy of this DVD.
Bret “Hitman” Hart: The Best There Is, The Best There Was, The Best There Ever Will Be
As much as I love the Macho Man DVD, the biggest issue I knew it would have later in the bracketing was its lack of a full career documentary. Unlike last round against Hunter’s DVD, now it’s up against a DVD documentary with a more comparable personality. Also, with all respect to Mach, the matches on his DVD don’t touch the matches on Bret’s DVD.
My Quarter Final Winners are the following..
Bracket 1
The True Story of WrestleMania
Bracket 2
WrestleMania X-Seven
Bracket 3
The Rise & Fall of ECW
Bracket 4
Bret “Hitman” Hart: The Best There Is, The Best There Was…
Why the WrestleMania DVD over the Raw 20th Anniversary?
Completely off topic, but newsworthy, 2 days ago WWE Network took down Backlash 2002, Judgment Day 2002, King Of The Ring 2002, Vengeance 2002, No Way Out 2003 and WrestleMania XIX. I found that to be bizarre and pretty random. Now it makes sense why. They put them all back up today and the one thing all those shows had in common was Hulk Hogan coming out to “Voodoo Chile”. WWE originally left the song in tact when the Network launched, now the song has been removed and dubbed over with an instrumental knockoff of Voodoo Chile.
At the moment WrestleMania 27 has also been removed. I wonder what songs will be edited when it pops back up. Also Insurrextion 2000 is still not up yet. Hasn’t been put up since the launch. Not sure what the story is there. Other PPVs that have disappeared over the last day or so are ECW Heat Wave 2000 and Massacre On 34th Street. Massacre was missing on the day of launch, but went up within a couple of days. Also WCW Bash At The Beach 1994 is gone. I’m guessing all of these are also being edited for whatever reason.
I noticed that too. Kind of makes me glad i kept the original DVDs.
Someone on another message board said they also took down Barely Legal 1997 and Anarchy Rulz 1999 but they’re back up now when i checked. Not sure what they took out, probably New Jack matches and more theme edits. Glad i kept the Pioneer official releases of those events and the rest of the PPV and supercard shows from 96-00 RF Video versions. Quality is pretty good and everything is intact, some of the 2000 ppvs even have the pre-shows which is pretty cool to have.
Look how close the voting was for this one….Bret “Hitman” Hart: The Best There Is, The Best There Was… [50.47%]
Greatest Rivalries: Bret Hart vs. Shawn Michaels [49.53%]
This was the hardest one for me to pick also.
Has anyone went back to their collection and starting watching some of these finalist all over again? Or am I the only one? Having too much fun with this.
it still bothers me that the stone cold/bret hart wm13 match has an audio track that is off from the footage. how can one of the greatest dvds have such a huge mess up like that?
Hardest match up of the tourney – ECW vs Punk, so hard. Hart vs Macho is pretty hard too.
Wow, CM Punk got a terrible bracket seeding. If he didn’t face Rise and Fall of ECW, he would have to face the Stone Cold DVD. Did The Authority create this bracket?
Oh man, you people are so predictable. All you want is your intensity and your workrate and your violence. No appreciation for the total entertainment package. WM17 even being on there let alone that far is just ridiculous. It’s just another PPV! ECW and Punk being that far is soooo predictable. ECW beating out Austin and Punk beating Attitude Era is just absurd. Austin could do everything. ECW could just do shock value. Smart marks are part of a hive mind. Nitro losing in round one is just sad.
BTW, Rhodes could be working on Great American Bash. I’d really prefer Goldust get his own set like was rumored in 2010. Dusty has had one and Cody does NOT need one this early in his career. He’s not even a big name.
I might be the only one on this site, but I voted for True story of WrestleMania..I’m from Denmark and I don’t import region 1/A sets.. there for I never voted for Raw 20.
I might had, if it was released in Europe as it was intented and advertised, when first announced.
I really hope ECW Rise and Fall goes all the way.. my favorite at this point, now that Bottom Line is out of the race.. a huge schock indeed. Let the semi-finales come.. brutal like Abdullah the Butcher, but cool like Disco Inferno…no, wait.. something’s not right there.. LOL
love this feature.. more stuff like that, please guys.. 😉
Rhodes Family set? Yep. Nice one. I’m ready for it.
Bret Hart best there is best there was and best there ever will be
I think is wwe’s best dvd set i remember it had a magazine for it also
and made bret harts return.
I agree, the Bret Hart DVD would be my ultimate winner.
For me it was easy: Raw 20th, Rise and Fall ECW, WM 17 & Bret Hart. Only dissapointed with Mick Foley hardcore edition, it’s my favourite match compilation set and I liked Edge’s set over true Story of WM.
Wow. Punk vs ECW. Tough call, but I went with Punk.
I agree, i went with ECW though. The Punk doc was great but i enjoyed the ECW much more.
Both over-rated. One was way too long, and one was just listening to a cocky @**ho|e talk about how great he was for 90 minutes. True Story of mania and Heartbreak & Triumph all the way.
I’m with SD. I couldn’t find it in myself to vote for Punk for many reasons. Not the greatest set and not the greatest person.
You mention Punk being a “cocky @**ho|e” and then say you voted for Heartbreak & Triumph. THAT is what you call irony.
