According to Shock Entertainment’s website, the official WWE Home Video distributor in Australia, there will be a new ECW themed DVD scheduled to be released later this year.
Whilst there is no indication of this title on our schedule or Amazon at present, Shock has listings for WWE: Biggest Matches in ECW History.
According to them it’s to be released on both DVD (3 Discs) and Blu-ray (2 Discs) format to Australia on June 6th, 2012. If it’s true, it will be released worldwide around the same time.
All new 3DVD set, collecting The 25 greatest matches in ECW History! Extreme Championship Wrestling ran from 1992 to 2001, founded in Philadelphia. Their weekly TV show ‘Hardcore TV’, ran from 1993-2000, and they also ran 21 Pay-Per-View events from 1997-2001.
ECW was known for its hardcore and irreverent style, and it’s rowdy and raucous audiences. It launched Sports Entertainment legends such as Paul Heyman, Tommy Dreamer, The Sandman, Taz, Terry Funk, Sabu, Rob Van Dam, Dean Malenko, Eddie Guerrero, Cactus Jack, Raven and more.
What are your thoughts on what would be the fourth ECW themed DVD released by WWE?
Leave a comment below! Past sets include The Rise and Fall of ECW, Bloodsport: Most Violent Matches, and ECW Extreme Rules.
This is a 100% first day purchase for me…. Regardless of what is on it (although I only want original ECW content)…. It will be hard for them to do a complete set without any repeats… I mean there is bound to be a few… If it’s the “biggest” matches wouldn’t they have appeared on one of the 3 already released DVD’s… Think about that before you start bitching cause it would be near impossible to have a biggest colection without some repeats at this point…
The fact that this set will be on Blu Ray seals the deal for me… and I’m sure they will throw on 4-6 extra matches on the blu ray release as extra content versus the DVD release… Can’t wait….
I’m looking forward to this release but I’m also not too hopeful either. As it’ll be the greatest 25 matches in history I can expect Cena vs. RVD for one match on the set already. I hope it is released like ‘The Essential Starrcade’ set with a countdown of somesort. But as long as the set has any Masato Tanaka vs. Mike Awesome or Super Crazy vs. Tajiri vs. Little Guido (FBI & Unholy Alliance included) matches and RVD & Sabu vs. Hayabusa & Jinsei Shinzaki from Heatwave 1998 I’ll be happy. I just hope it isn’t a disappointment.
Brandon, I honestly think you might be the only guy who wants WWECW stuff, lol. I don’t think many people care for all that, or really see it as a different brand, certainly not when the set and entrance because the same as the SmackDown rig but with different images projected onto it, and Extreme Rules matches all but disappeared. I don’t need the Ezekiel Jackson vs. William Regal anthology, lol.
I just think this set will be lame and uninspired, and done in crappy “countdown” style rather than chronological order once again, probably with an annoying hip-hop theme over it. Surely the list posted below regarding ECW matches released by WWE is enough to satisfy most people. If it doesn’t, go on Amazon and purchase used copies of the original ‘Hard Hits’ series, containing some of the best matches from certain PPV series’. Or ECW PPV DVDs themselves (which in most cases will at least have less entrance music edits than a WWE release will have).
I’m just so over WWE releasing ECW stuff; especially after the whole revival ultimately bombed. I’m surprised they’d released an ECW set now anyway, considering all the TNA talent that will be present on it.
I think I’m the only one here who does not want ECW WWE matches on this set. If youre going to release a top ECW match set do it correctly. Can’t we all agree that CM Punk/Kevin Thorn was not a great match? You really want to see Show/Flair? Some of those matches were horrible and I wouldnt want WWE stinking up this set because they failed at filling an hour on TV every week. The new ECW was as successful as the XFL.
Joey Styles tweeted on this also

It’s slightly out lf nowhere but i’d be well happy having some classic ECW on Blu Ray! Here’s hopeing they choose the right matches.
I bet they ignore the last two ECW sets and repeat a lot of those matches on here, since this is the first ECW release in the HD era
Disc 3 will be entirely WWECW matches. that’s not a bad thing though, since there were actually a lot of good matches during that era. here are some of my favorites
John Cena vs. Rob Van Dam – One Night Stand 2006
John Cena vs. Sabu – Vengeance 2006
ECW Originals vs. New Breed – Extreme Rules Match
Kane vs. Mark Henry vs. Big Daddy V vs. The Great Khali – Monster Mash Battle Royal
Big Show vs. CM Punk vs. John Morrison vs. Chavo Guerrero vs. Tommy Dreamer – Singapore Cane Match
Christian vs. Ezekiel Jackson – Extreme Rules match (last match in ECW history)
The synopsis has no mention of WWECW though.
i would like to see some more jerry lynn matches.
The business changing revolution is still alive and well! This is Eastern/Extreme Championship Wrestling ONLY, not that parody WWE BS.
Is this The DVD Mick Foley was talking about
This DVD is a compilation of ECW matches. Foley specifically mentioned “Attitude DVD” on Twitter, and that he talked of Austin being the man of that era.
This is going to be a great year for DVDs
Best of SD & Raw
The Rock
Clash of Champions
CM Punk
ECW
Attitude Era
Edge
Triple H
I am really looking forward to seeing what matches they put on this. I hope it’s not ones that they have already put on DVD. There are plenty of classics left to be released.
no 2006 matches on there plz! or all old classic stuff if they do that omg as joey styles i say they should put some benoit matches on and they need to put on eddie vs benoit at one night stand 05
I have a feeling this one is going to be awesome! And from Joey Styles breaking news I have a feeling we may not have to worry about repeats!
@JoeyStyles
Coming this summer, a home video release unlike any other you have seen before. Please RT and spread the word of Extreme. #ECWDVD
There have been tons of gems yet to be released. I’m surprised the 3-Way Dance from Night the Line Was Crossed has not been on any WWE produced DVD.
I ended up getting the RF Video release of that event from Highspots. Quality is pretty good, basically VHS quality, but was a pretty damn good match and a fun show.
People are forgetting that RVDs dvd is almost a ECW DVD as well. Im looking forward to it. I want more ECW content to become available. I hope the match listing is good. but im betting its going to be full of repeats.
the wwe should continue to release wcw and ecw themed dvd sets to give the fans what they want.would be nice to include some wwe ecw matches from 2006 to 2010 even if the product had highs and lows.the match selections will probably have some repeats but still can be a good dvd.

Part of me really wanted some WWECW stuff on there – I can’t be the only one looking for a collection of that stuff.
I always like watching ECW for great matches from RVD and seeing Elektra’s hot body, she was damn sexy.
What stinks about this is all 25 were more than likely released on the two previous compliations. They need to keep the compliations going and have new to DVD matches only. It would be less expensive for the consumer to purchase the previous releases.
I just hope there something new on them .I wish they would have made one of Just Taz I mean he had so many great matches in ECW
It does seem like a really great year for DVD releases. We can expect another WCW DVD (Clash) another Greatest Rivalries and now another ECW!!! I was just thinking the other day about how we could use another ECW set. Very interested to see what WWE does about the blood and adult language factor. But, if they’re planning to release an Attitude Era DVD this year as well then it looks like they can just have a rating on them. I’m thinking Blu-Ray for this one without a doubt. Very nice!
I think they need to do a compliation of the ECW WWE show, because it was wrongly cancelled.
Just kidding, but it should be great to see what they pull out of the hardcore fault…….That is EC F’N W
If this is true…things just keep getting better and better for 2012 releases.
The match collection and BluRay extras would have to be superb to interest me in buying this release.
I wouldn’t mind some WWECW matches being on a release such as this, either.
Awesome you’ve gotta love some ECW. Hopefully they include some gems and not to much from 2006-2010!
Hope they include The Night the Line Was Crossed 3-way dance, arguably the match which put ECW on the map!
will this include WWE ECW Matches?
So far this years DVDs are looking great can’t wait
ECW will never die! Looking forward to it
Awesome!!!!
