CM Punk introduced Colt Cabana’s latest podcast (uploaded yesterday), in which he revealed his WWE DVD project is officially on the way and that he’s heavily involved.
The 3-Disc DVD was first confirmed as being in the works back in November, and CM Punk’s big announcement on Colt Cabana’s podcast was that the release has officially been “given the green light” by WWE. On there he spoke of not wanting to keep the DVD a surprise because of his desire to make it extra special in every way for the fans, his chance to tell his story and do all kinds of wacky stuff at the same time.
Regarding the DVD’s format and content Punk says it will be, “the old documentary/life story/follow me around with a camera to find out what I’m really like behind the scenes”. Sounds to us like The John Cena Experience or Randy Orton: Evolution of a Predator. He confirmed he’s the one picking the matches, which personalities are to be interviewed for the documentary portion and that he was told by WWE he’s in charge fully.
Whilst most WWE Superstars who get the DVD treatment often say they have creative control, it looks like he is really going for it. “I’ve already made a lot of people angry with the decisions made with the DVD”, says Punk.
He recalls the story of setting aside time to watch the recent Randy Orton and Chris Jericho sets (supposedly the first WWE DVD superstar documentaries of his co-workers that he has ever watched), and then sending a “ridiculously long” email to the WWE employees assigned to the project about what he wants for his.
The first thing on his list was hating the usual narrators heard in the background and the choices of music. For his own DVD, Punk says he is refusing to have any part of his life or career highlighted with a soundtrack from “crappy bands like Switchfoot”. Instead, he intends to be going with music from bands he actually likes and is friends with.
Expect the new CM Punk set to be released on both DVD and Blu-ray formats later in the year. As soon as we hear further details on it we’ll be posting them up here on the site.

Bet he says NOTHING about what REALLY happened. Can’t wait.
I would like to Have The 3-disc DVD in All Stores in New York.
would be fun if they have a promo section on the extras. love it if they could get the “i am a snake you stupid old man” promo from roh
awesome
Wouldn’t it be amazing if WWE struck a deal with ROH to put some of Punk’s ROH on here?
since he’s in full control of what he does with this dvd set, i wonder if he’ll make any mention of chris benoit, like triple h did in his king of kings dvd several years ago.
Not many people know who Colt Cabanna is, I thought it was Carlito. Punk needs to accept that he made it big and Colt did not or Luke Gallows there was a reason he got fired from WWE, he wasn’t that talented or good of a wrestler same goes for Brian Pillman.
Accually it be nice if they could put 2 or 3 indie matches of his on
there. But there are already plenty of CM Punk indie dvd’s out there.
Would be nice if he picks atleast one OVW match…
Here’s one I came up with too:
CM Punk vs. My Dad (Family get together match)
CM Punk vs. Hulk Hogan (brother, brother, brother)
CM Punk vs. Undertaker (Wrestlemania 34)
CM Punk vs. Snitsky (60 minute iron man match)
CM Punk vs. Brodus Clay (Take me to funky town match)
CM Punk vs. Jim Duggan and Kharma
Here is a match listing I drew up that would be pretty good IMO
CM Punk vs. Justin Credible (Debut) – ECW 8/01/06
CM Punk vs. John Morrison – ECW 9/4/07
CM Punk vs. John Morrison vs. The Miz – Survivor Series 2007
Punk cashes in MITB on Edge – RAW 6/30/08
CM Punk vs. JBL – RAW 6/30/08
CM Punk vs. Batista – Great American Bash 2008
CM Punk vs. Rey Mysterio – Armageddon 2008
CM Punk vs. William Regal – RAW 1/19/09
CM Punk vs. Edge – Smackdown 5/01/09
CM Punk vs. Edge vs. Jeff Hardy – RAW 6/15/09
CM Punk vs. John Morrison – Smackdown 6/26/09
CM Punk vs. Jeff Hardy (TLC Match) – SummerSlam 2009
CM Punk vs. Jeff Hardy (Steel Cage Match) – Smackdown 8/28/09
CM Punk vs. The Undertaker – Hell in a Cell 2009
CM Punk vs. Rey Mysterio – Over The Limit 2010
CM Punk vs. Randy Orton (Last Man Standing Match) – Extreme Rules 2011
CM Punk vs. Rey Mysterio – Capitol Punishment 2011
CM Punk vs. John Cena – Money in the Bank 2011
CM Punk vs. Alberto Del Rio – Survivor Series 2011
CM Punk vs. Alberto Del Rio vs. The Miz – TLC 2011
@matthew S WWE putting out DVD’s for their current talent is actually what their lacking. WWE has put out hundreds of DVDs over the couple of past years of different promotions (ECW, AWA, WCW), alls you gotta do is look for them. They’ve also put compilation DVDs from other era’s in the WWE (Monday Night Raw 1993-1994 Box set, Best of KotR, OMG Moments, etc.) And if they have put out doc. DVD’s for superstars it’s been wrestlers from the past (Rock, Austin, etc.)
Knowing Punk, he’d probably want Easter eggs that include classic (yet to be released) Randy Savage matches.
As soon as saw “I’ve already made a lot of people angry with the decisions made with the DVD”, says Punk. I immediately thought of Chris Benoit for some reason
This is one I will not be buying, unless I find it in the $5 bin at Wal-Mart. I wish they would put out more classic Superstar DVDs rather than current stars, I want DVDs that have matches from different promotions and a time line of more than just 5 years.
hating the idea of wwe making studid DVDs like this one, like Rocky ones…
make a single DVD with matches some years later and then make the last DVD when he retires not now.
btw hate CM Punks character.. better with the Jeff storyline of before MITB
CM Punk is currently my favorite, hell yes I’ll be getting it
@Keith Van Hor myay not be too big a Punk fan if you don’t know who Cabana is
Nice! Definitely one to have in the collection. Love Punk.
@Keith Van Horn44
Colt Cabana is a wrestler who is average at best in the ring that the IWC sheep think belongs in WWE just because CM Punk works there.
He’s CM Punks friend.
this did not shock us here at wwedvdnews but i for one am very happy we will get the type of dvd we wanted
This is fantastic news. The Jericho doc sucked serious balls (and the set had a horrible match listing) so the fact that Punk is using it as a reference of “what not to do” is exciting.
I was probably buying this anyway but now I’m actually looking forward to it!
CM Punk is great and I’m a fan of his and I will probably get this when it comes out. But who the hell is Colt Cabana?
the year is young but this will be a dvd of the year candidate.
Sounds good, looking forward to the release.
Screw first day buy, this is track down the delivery truck and steal material.
Classic Punk at his best. Just like his persona on Raw you can expect the DVD to be very original and nothing like what we have seen before. I really can’t wait for this and am hoping we get a lot of his independent stuff (if that’s possible) as well as his ECW work and the documentary sounds like it’s going to be a class act. I can’t wait for this one
This is Awesome and I really hope they do the documentary like the John Cena and Randy Orton DVDs that were film around Wrestlemania time.
