Fantasy Concept - WWE DVD

Firstly I would like to wish everyone a very Happy New Year. Let’s hope 2014 is as kind to us as 2013 was with wrestling DVDs! Now as we begin the new year the latest Fantasy Concept will look at another new beginning – the re-launch of ECW.

While some will always groan whenever the “new ECW” is mentioned, there is a very interesting story behind the re-launch and subsequent bumps in the road it faced. published an intriguing article on the ECW re-launch quite a few months ago; check it out.

This 2 disc Blu-ray (3 disc DVD) would explore the rebirth and closure of the new ECW from the Rise and Fall of ECW DVD set through to the final ECW on SyFy broadcast. So without further ado, let’s look at… ECW: After the Fall

  1. Josh h says:

I would’ve added punk vs chavo for the ecw title the night edge helped chavo win the title and the south Philly screw job…rvd vs big show from July 4th 2006 to this DVD set as well

  2. Josh h says:

To me, ecw was ecw and I was a lifelong fan and would love to get my hands on this DVD set if the wwe put it out.

The wwe had put out the superstar collection featuring current wwe stars, now, how about some superstar collections on some ecw stars like rvd, sabu, sandman…etc? Would these DVDs sell well or are they not worth the money to even buy one of them?

  3. Fabio says:

    Great concept !

  4. Michael says:

I would of included any of the Jimmy Wang Yang & Shannon Moore vs. Miz & Morrison matches imo.

  5. King Shabazz says:

This “version” of ECW was about as exciting as women’s golf. Definitely keep this one a Fantasy. Nice artwork, though!

  6. Anan says:

I don’t mind this set. What it does feature is great. However the word Fantasy suits this best because since most don’t really speak highly of WWE’s ECW, can’t see WWE pursuing this.

Personally I’d much rather see a documentary on WWE’s developmental system from how the death of the old territories affected the industry, to OVW, getting talents from the Storm Wrestling Academy and other schools, talent scouting, FCW, NXT, WWE’s awesome PC, with the last chapter being the future.

The matches would be great as we’d get to see talents like The Wyatts, Cena, The Shield, etc who are big time now back when they were just beginning their WWE careers before hitting the main roster. I think it’d be an interesting set.

  7. James says:

I’d buy this in a second. A doc about the reboot of ECW would be kind of fascinating. I mean, it wasn’t a business failure at all if compared to the original ECW, but it would be a little tough to call it a “success” given comparisons to the original as well. Plus, just hearing Paul Heyman & Vince McMahon debate the Lashley victory in the chamber would be a classic doc moment.

  8. Scott says:

Big Show defeats RVD for the ECW belt (Paul E Turns) July 4 2006 should probably be included too. Great concept, I would buy.

  9. Rude Bastard says:

Some people don’t know how to accept that this garbage is gone forever.

  10. Anthony says:

Wow, some people have a lot of time on there hands.

  11. Steven Jackson says:

Interesting concept here. I was never fully invested in ECW (due to its affiliations with the real ECW) yet it did produce some good matches. I would probably consider buying this set, simply to hear the story in the documentary and some of the matches do look appealing.

  12. Aaron Park says:

And I agree with Richard, where’s the Extreme Rules Match between Hardcore Holly vs RVD?!?

  13. Aaron Park says:

What about Kane vs Chavo @ WrestleMania 24 or the debut of Yoshi Tatsu vs Shelton Benjamin?!?

  14. Jeff Copeland says:

Now this I would buy before another uncensored zzzzzzz ecw vol

  15. Ray Cornwall says:

This is the best fantasy concept in a while. Lots of fresh content. I’m in!

  16. NickP says:

A cool blu-ray extra would be the Wwe vs Ecw head to head show.

  17. Ryan says:

The E better take note here. This has some great matches & moments here.

  18. captain planet says:

Terrific concept, but I’d expand upon it to include a few Hart Dynasty and Goldust matches, and matches from other non-ECW shows that featured ECW talent (like Superstars, Goldust vs Sheamus), just to flesh out the set more and depict a full picture of that era. Anyway, love the idea, glad to see some forgotten cool matches (like Flair teaming with Punk!).

    • Derick says:

I agree with you there. At the very least the Goldust vs Sheamus matches. Those were awesome for how short they were. I would even add the Ric Flair match from when they were doing the storyline that if he lost he would retire. I think one of those happened on ECW anyway.

  19. Sake Joe says:

Awesome job sir. While I was skeptical off New ECW at the time, I grew to like it for what it was. So I would definitely buy this.

  20. Richard says:

As ECW represents (for the most part) a creative failure on McMahon’s part and the fact that it was Heyman’s creations or ideas that stuck, this is an unlikely release.

The documentary is a great idea but there are too many matches listed here, some scraping the bottom of the barrel. Did I miss something or was the RVD-Hardcore Holly match omitted from this collection? That was a memorable TV match that epitomized the ideals of the original ECW.

A doc with 15 of the absolute best matches from the ECW PPV events and TV show would suffice.

  21. Steve says:

As usual a terrific concept. It’s a shame we don’t get releases like this. Instead we get lazy releases like “Mr. Wrestlemania” with a million repeats and an omitted match. Throw in HD footage released only in DVD format. WWE Home video should seriously hire the contributors of this site.

  22. Steeve says:

A Braden Walker match ? Definite Buy !

  23. DFidler says:

While I thought WWECW was a hit and miss. This set seems interesting and would be a pick up for me if real.

  24. Brandon says:

If someone can go ahead and green light this, that would be great.

  25. ALK says:

A no holds barred interviews/discussion about the horror behind December to Dismember with all parties involved would be worth the purchase alone. XD

  26. @IMDJLUIS says:

I wish WWE would consider this, this would be a very entertaining release. And if anything else, they can just sell it off the ECW name alone, and I think people would pick it up. It’s a very important time in WWE history that is worth documenting like this.

  27. Domenic Ricci says:

Awesome job as always, Mark. However, I think I can do better than you. What do you say? A little challenge. Reply back please
