Video Preview of WWE Greatest Cage Matches, Huge DVD Project Coming?

June 18, 2011 by Daniel Bee

WWE The Greatest Cage Matches of All Time DVDAmazon have released a preview video of WWE: The Greatest Cage Matches of All Time DVD. Check it out below.

This 3-Disc DVD hits stores in North America on June 28th, and follows in July to the UK & Europe via Silvervision.co.uk.

We’ve spotted a mistake at the end of the video. They indicate the feature will be released on Blu-ray but that is not down on any schedule, only a DVD edition is.

In JR’s latest blog he hints that a major WWE DVD project is in the works. Our guess is this is a title to be released in 2012 that we’ve not yet heard about. Here’s what he had to say:

I’m planning on being a part of the biggest DVD project that I’ve ever been assigned next week. This project has been years in the making and could be ground breaking. If it comes off we envision, it will be a huge coup for WWE and will be ‘must see.’ That’s all I’m going to say on this matter but I am legit pumped to be a part of this project.

  1. I agree that if JR is involved in the project its going to be something with much more meat than simply a collection of PPV matches. I think something like the history of professional wrestling would be a great idea and would be a little different. I could see him involved in a Jerry Lawler collection, I doubt there would be a Sting or Kurt Angle set while they are still under contract with TNA.

  2. SB says:

Comprehensive History of Professional Wrestling series. It’s been slated for years. WWE has had the library assets to pull it off for close to a decade now.. Such a series is overdue.

  3. MrV says:

Who cares….wrestling is dying in the @ss, cant you all see that. MMA will eventually take over, for the simple fact….it’s real!!

  4. m.blier says:

the monday night war anthology or the history of wwe on tv and ppv by year or decade

  5. zach says:

damn it…. i fucking hate the things at the side of the screen

  6. jordan says:

Kurt angle DVD? Maybe sting? Probably not. I’m thinking it’s gonna be a like a best stipulation matches DVD? I have no idea

  7. Could he be talking about Rock vs Austin?

    • Daniel Bee says:

Like I said, this is probably something beyond the reveals we know of for 2011 and I agree with Mark – it’s not going to be an Anthology of sorts. That wouldn’t be a big project involving JR and other’s input and interviews.

  8. Mark D says:

I really think everyone thinking any kind of ppv/tv anthology is wrong (sorry) as why would WWE need JRs help to pull together a set of complete PPVs? This is going to be something history related.

  9. The Prophet says:

I’d guess a Jerry Lawler DVD. JR may be doing the commentary on the matches or something?

  10. Matt says:

    It’s the Sting DVD

  11. Alan says:

How about individual superstar anthologies of all their pay-per-view matches, with comment and analysis thrown in before each match? Would certainly be an extensive project for the longer-serving superstars, and if successful, would indeed be a huge coup for the WWE in terms of the future possibilities.

  12. SRB says:

Agreed. A top 50 of anything sounds weak to me. Saying its groundbreaking also means its a risk. A risk would be an anthology from WCW or ECW

  13. Steeve says:

King of Hearts : The Owen Hart Story …if only it could be that , i would probably cry.

Maybe a Jerry Lawler DVD or the Top 50 Matches. Or the History of the Tag Team Titles.

  14. Guest says:

JR says groundbreaking, years in the making, huge coup and must see. It sounds like it has to be either some form of documentary or either sitting down with someone/producing something that they didn’t have access to or the ability to sit down with. A simple anthology of videos they already had in the vault would be none of those. What about a History of MSG ala the title history DVDs? That would involve a lot of archive footage and until the early 1980s, would also essentially serve as a History of the WWWF DVD

  15. richie says:

If the entire WM anthology 1-21 is released on Blu Ray I can live with that.

  16. John23 says:

”Years in the making” I can’t think of anything besides an Anthology Set. It sounds much bigger than the ”TOP 50 of anything”. To me the most ground breaking DVD so far was the Anthology of Wrestlemania. I don’t think JR would be this excited about ECW or WCW project, but it would be Great.

  17. captain planet says:

I’m going to guess it’s a history of WWE video. That, or maybe even a history of the business entirely. That’s definitely something that needs to be done by WWE (I’ve seen the 90s one made by another company – it’s good and I highly recommend it, but I’d also like to see WWE’s since they own the bulk of history now).

  18. Awesome One!!!!! says:

    In Your House Anthology

  19. Mr WWE Universe says:

my guess is a top 50 matches of all-time,a Gorgeous Jeorge DVD set,a WWWF DVD set, or a Mid-South wrestling DVD set.

  20. matthew S says:

I would love to see the 50 greatest PPV matches of all time, or a 3 disc set of the best of Clash Of The Champions.

  21. James Weaver says:

I think they either are working on one of a few things. The best matches in wwe history, best of nwa/wcw that was rumored in 07, they purchased the mid-south collection or are working on the new network or best matches of all time covering all the footage they have.

  22. CD says:

I am hoping for a DVD that will look at each Territory. Have a doc about each territory and have some matches. Or a Greatest Feuds dvd.

  23. Anonymous says:

I Hope It’s Mid South Wrestling Matches For Jerry Lawler’s Overdue DVD

  24. indyfan says:

    *Groundbreaking

  25. indyfan says:

JR says its groudbreaking. What is so ground breaking about box sets for Starrcade, KOTR or Survivor Series or a Gorgeous George set. They would simply be regular news.

  26. ECW Mark says:

If they do a ECW PPV Anthology my life will be complete

  27. Anonymous says:

The Green Lepercaun that overcame the odds: The Story of Hornswoggle

  28. Guest says:

    Sammartino

  29. Bryan says:

My guess is the Raw 20th anniversary set or the Gorgeous George set

  30. Mark D says:

    Here’s what I think…
It could be a Mid-South/UWF set if WWE have finally secured the rights to the Mid South/UWF archive. Or it could be an ‘Attitude’ era style set, a Raw 20th Anniversary or as Marco said a History of WWE set.

  31. Dave says:

Maybe it’s a complete Starrcade Anthology…WWE started with the Wrestlemania Anthology so makes sense for them to start with WCW’s biggest ppv if that were the case. I think the Rise and Fall of WCW and Best of Nitro sold very well so WWE could see cash flow with a complete WCW Anthology boxset.

If the Starrcade one does well, we could see Beach Blast/Bash at the Beach, Halloween Havoc, Fall Brawl, Great American Bash, Slamboree, Spring Stampede and Superbrawl in the future.

  32. Anonymous says:

Id love ANYTHING from WCW… Also, it’s been a while since they released any box sets.. Give me the rest of the Survivor Series or KOTR anthology.. give me something!

  33. Marco says:

History of WWE – 10 disc set?

  34. indyfan says:

PLEASE PLEASE be old shows in their entirety or tagged classics in their entirety. I can deal with blurred logos but taking out moments and wrestlers is too much. Give us all old ECW ppvs and WCW ppvs and all 1996-2001 WWf PPVS and all RAWS and Smackdowns and NItros.

If it isn’t something like this.. its just not big news. Unless they allow fans to pick the matches of dvds that they buy. Kinda like a create a dvd idea.

  35. Roberto Callus says:

The rise and fall of TNA? hahaha just joking. the Best of the Invasion? that would be pretty cool.

  36. David says:

    Probably some WCW PPV package?

  37. Ricky Schmidt says:

    I think it’s the Top 50 moments DVD/Blu Ray.
