Mark’s Fantasy Concept #5 – Greatest Rivalries: Rock vs. Austin

February 10, 2012 by Mark D

WDN Fantasy Concept

With the word coming out from J.R.’s Blog earlier this week that WWE is working on another ‘Greatest Rivalries’ DVD, I thought it is only right that we see just how one of the most anticipated and requested DVDs in this series would look: The Rock vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin with this ‘fantasy concept‘.

Here is how I think WWE Greatest Rivalries: The Rock vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin should look and the content which I think should be included:

This set has been on the schedules in the past and was eventually replaced with the Bret vs. Shawn set and then followed by the Stone Cold Steve Austin set. This release was also a run away winner in our Greatest Rivalries Poll and also very popular in our 2011 DVD Poll.

It’s great to hear your feedback, so please sound off in the comments below!

I hope to bring you more fantasy concept DVD sets in the coming weeks and months – so stay tuned to the site.

They forgot a rare pretty good match from rebellion 2001 I have it on DVD rock does Austin’s Lou thress press and his middle finger chops and Austin does the people’s elbow with doing the middle finger and I think they also copy their finisher’s i only seen it once I need to check it out again and rock and Chris Jericho vs Kurt angle and stone cold Steve Austin from smackdown 2001 3 days before survivor series where if you go on YouTube it says it’s SmackDowns best ended and everyone involved in the survivor series match hit each other’s finisher’s or rock and Austin vs Jericho and angle from smackdown 2001 days before vengeance 2001 and in the end rock and Austin have a beer bash or even rock and Austin vs Booker t and big boss man from raw 2002 or rock vs Scott hall from smackdown 2002 just because Austin saves the rock there’s so many rock and Austin moments I could remember cus I grew up watching them rock and Austin vs Kane and undertaker from raw 2001 or 1998 2001 rock gaves Austin a Stunner and drinks Austin’s beer and 98 we see the return of big boss man or six man tag team match rock Austin and Vince McMahon vs hhh undertaker and Shane McMahon with hbk as special referee I know there’s so much more those are just my opinion

  2. SCSA says:

I am so upset that this set never made it 🙁

The Top 25 Rivlaries wasn’t as good as I’d hoped it would be & I really think that the WWE should have carried on with individual Rivlary DVD\Blu-Ray sets after they had bought out the ‘Greatest Rivlaries’ set on Shawn Vs Bret!

Starting with none other than, Austin Vs Rock! I’d also like to see:

    – Austin Vs Vince
    – Undertaker Vs Shawn
    – Triple H Vs Mick Foley
    – Rock Vs Mankind

  7. I think The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin are the Greatest Rivalries ever in the WWE.

    • Scsa says:

I AGREE! Though with the ‘Top 25 Greatest Rivlaries’ coming out soon, I don’t think that the WWE will bother releasing this set of Austin Vs Rock 🙁

  8. Scsa says:

Is there ne news on this set yet?

  9. Scsa says:

WHEN IN THE HELL ARE THEY GONNA BRING OUT THIS SET? WHEN I TURN 50 ?!

  10. Anan says:

This would be awesome for sure. But I also think WWE should do a set on fantasy matches that never happened. They did a countdown of this where matches like Bret Hart/Kurt Angle, HBK/Rock, Taker/Sting, etc were on it. Have all the guys involved in the rivalry comment on what it’d be like to face off, how they feel the crowd would react, how much of chance do they have of the match happening now, when the best time and event would have been to have it and why, etc.

Anyway, back to Austin/Rock…..it would certainly be a seller. But this rivalry was covered to some extent on Austin’s Bottom Line set which may have been one of the reasons why they went with Bret/HBK instead. Still, I feel a Austin/Rock set should be done.

Just some rivalries I’d like to see documented….Foley/HHH, Mankind/Rock, Rock/HHH, HBK/HHH, Austin/HHH. Once they are able to be involved on the set, I think sets on Sting/Flair and Sting/Hogan would sell too.

  11. Eric says:

    This one would be awesome

  12. Scsa says:

Ne word on when this set is to be released or has been cancelled forever?!?!

  13. Scsa says:

Please try and find out when the next ‘greatest rivlaries’ set is due! Right now I just wanna c an ‘Austin versus rock’ set!

  14. Dizzy says:

I would buy this the day it comes out. These rivalry series are ones I wanna see more of. HHH/Rock, Hardys/E&C/Dudleys, Austin/McMahon, Jericho/Mysterio etc.

  15. Anonymous says:

    I would pay for this!

  16. HHHfan1999 says:

They need to do it! I don’t see why they didn’t start off the series with this one and let the rest of the rivalries follow? But, I guess we don’t have a lot of perspective on what happened in this rivalry, so maybe they thought we needed the true story as soon as possible? Hmmm…

  17. NWO 4 Life says:

I wasn’t pleased with the matches and moments on HBK vs Hart set, I wanted more Attitude stuff from Shawn. Not saying seeing classic Rockers vs Hart Foundation matches was not good but I wanted to see HBK and Triple H against any combo of Bret and Owen or Bret and Bulldog or Bret and Jim Neidhart.

  18. Brad Attitude says:

    thats an awesome f’n cover.

    great stuff.

  19. George Schire says:

Hopefully this happens. I usually don’t care for stuff past 79, for some reason this has got me excited.

    The Authority (George Schire).

  20. vincenzzzzzo says:

Again, nice job. I forgot how many matches they had together and I wondered how they’d fill 3 discs worth, but after seeing this, I know they could easily. Great cover.

  21. Anonymous says:

Incredible concept art. My only nitpick is that WWE would have to put “the” and “stone cold steve” above Rock and Austin respectivley (in small leters). Copyright reasons. Also I lovee the picture on the front cover, but I can only imagine WWE not using it because you cant see enough of Austins face.

Disc three offers little in the segments, but just because all those moments are whores out on DVD as it is.

  22. Jamie says:

This dvd would be fucking epic hope they do release a dvd on their fued

  23. NWO 4 Life says:

Mark’s idea of matches and moments totally killed the Hart vs HBK matches and moments on the DVD, should had DX and Hart Foundation moments where Shawn said Bret your a zero my hero lol. Rock vs Stone Cold will be a top seller no doubt because they both were popular.

  24. Isrs4life says:

This could be sweet but the DVD cover could be black or red.

I am not gonna bother to buy Austins newest DVD because i’m
waiting for this one to come out.

It just feels more different and I hope Mark is right about every
piece of content when the real deal comes out.

  25. scsa says:

GREAT COVER! I have been waiting for this Blu-Ray to come out for months!!!! Although they changed it with Hart/Michaels. That was good but Hart did most of the talking and got a little boring later 🙁 Ne ways, I think there should have been a pic of the Rock on the back of your cover doing a rock bottom or peoples elbow on Austin as there’s a pic of Austin doing a stunner on the rock.

  26. Geolink says:

Wow the amount of work in this DVD is incredible. If WWE releases something as good as this concept, I would honestly cry with joy.

  27. Harry Faversham says:

Rebellion 2001 and their tag match against the nWo would be good additions too, except for the fact that they lose that one. It looks amazing! But I think they will show more of Austin’s face. Rock’s picture is perfect.

  28. JamesS says:

@Anan Since when did WWE DVDs have every match and every promo on them? How many promos did Bret v Shawn have??? :p

  29. Geolink says:

    God, that cover looks ballin’!

  30. Anan says:

I think you missed one. RAW 2001 (forgot date) where Rock & SCSA defeated Taker & Kane (with HHH’s help) in which after Rock stunned Austin & put a beer next to him. ALso missing is Rock/Austin vs Taker/Kane October 16 1998

But yeah lotd of promos, segments and stuff are missing it seems like.

Also Steve Austin and The Rock on….
Being fans of the business growing up
Who they were fans of and why
    Breaking into the business
Who they learned from before and after arriving in WWE
Their legacy/what they will be remembered for and what they want to be remembered for
    Communicating with fans on Twitter
What being inducted into the HOF meant for Austin and Rock (if he’s inducted by the time this is released) or what it would
mean for Rock (if he is not by then)

  31. Mark D says:

The promo list is not definative – its quite hard to find promos, matches aand some promos are listed on sites like HistoryoftheWWE.com (great site BTW), but I’m not sure there is a breakdown of all the segments of Raw and Smackdown anywhere. So I’m going to admit there will be quite a few promos I’ve missed, sorry.

  32. SRB says:

I think you did an amazing job with this and thank you for continuing to do this. PArt of me thinks we may get this DVD later this year and the other part of me thinks it would be too difficult to get these guys to sit down and agree on scheduling. Although the artwork looks great and this match listing is absolute perfection I think I’m the only one in the world who is still living too far in the past to want to see this, plus the Rock DVD is coming out soon and Austin’s DVD is only a month or two old. I’m guessing next on the list for greatst rivalries might be HHH and someone else. Not too sure who yet. Wonderful work and please keep them coming!

  33. Roaster says:

All it needs is their promo before Survivor Series ’01 where they keep taking the mic from each other and they end up singing then fighting. It’s perfect other than that. Awesome job!!

  34. Jerry says:

Awesome cover, and great content! I do hope this dvd isn’t the greatest rivalries they’re coming out with later, Austin and Rock just got a new dvd set. I think it’s going to be something with Triple H, which would explain his dvd getting pulled.

  35. neverAcquiesce says:

Great work, especially within the very limiting confines of them most likely matching the art of the Shawn/Bret set. Fantastic listing too, as I’m ready to purchase it today!

  36. ratedrpoed says:

if they are gonna put the first 2 austin/rock WM matches on dvd again then they need to do alternate commentary for them or something cos those 2 matches have been on far too many dvds already.

  37. Mark D says:

@Adam Thanks. But your videos look… INCREDIBLE! Check them out everyone: http://www.youtube.com/user/DragoSteelers.

I know what I’ll be watching later 🙂

  38. Adam says:

I bow to you. VERY classy looking cover. Although I didn’t like the Bret/Shawn oen, it’s only be right to have this one look the same and what a job you did with that!

    And great choice of images.

I REALLY hope they release this set one day.
