WWE Night of Champions 2011 to be Released on Blu-ray in Europe

September 16, 2011 by Daniel Bee

WWE Night of Champions 2011

As you may have heard, Silvervision announced yesterday that the upcoming WWE Night of Champions 2011 PPV will be released on Blu-ray format to UK/Europe.

The change was a sudden move, illustrated by orders being taken since Tuesday for the DVD version only. As of writing there is no entry for a Night of Champions Blu-ray on the North America schedule but we’ll let you know if we hear any changes.

This looks to be the same situation as for SummerSlam 2011, where only the DVD was released to North America yet Silvervision received a HD master for the event. Pending updates, there is no WWE PPV planned for Blu-ray in the United States all the way through to Survivor Series.

So if you’re in the UK or elsewhere in Europe, you can pre-order the Blu-ray now over here.

Night of Champions is released on October 18th 2011, and follows to the UK in December.

UPDATE: According to HMV.ca, Kitchener (ON), Sudbury (ON), Rocky View (AB), Grand Prairie (AB) & Richmond (BC) all have copies of SummerSlam 2011 on BD! I will get back on physical copy availability @ my location later today. Just got off the phone w/ the Kitchener location and they DO have 1 copy in stock.

As of today, the BD for SummerSlam 2011 is still listed as available in Canada, both on HMV (our version of FYE) and Amazon.ca. Not sure if this disc will include the extras on the UK version, its schedualed for release tomorrow. I will have a further update on its availability then!

I highly doubt Canada will get a Blu-ray if the US don’t. There are no differences anymore between either region’s WWE DVDs, from what I can see. Keep an eye on it though.

  6. Daniel Bee says:

Thomas. I said that’s fine to disagree with me, but why aren’t you explaining it? You are essentially saying DVD and Blu-ray formats will last forever.

  7. Thomas says:

@Daniel Bee, I still totally disagree with you

  8. Rocko says:

@Simon. The comment about Michaels/Hart was mainly sour grapes. It just boggles my mind that such an important event in both their feud and the history of the company is a bluray exclusive. That’s assinine. And I meant to say that most of the time the exclusives aren’t worth it. I didn’t mean to make a blanket statement for all blurays released.

And for the record, I am not a bluray hater. If they packed the regular dvd releases to full capacity and then included extras on bluray due to extra space, I’m all for it. But when they’re releasing dvd sets that clock in at 7-7.5 hours instead of 9 and then adding extra to the bluray, it seems like a sleazy tactic to move more blurays.

  9. Simon says:

@Rocko: You’re contradicting yourself. Firstly you say that the Blu Ray exclusives aren’t substantial enough to warrant the purchase, and when they are (Michaels/Hart SS97), you just say it’s “bullshit”.

  10. LP1 says:

As for Night Of Champions being released only in the UK, I just don’t get what WWE’s mindset is regarding this. Over The Limit 2010 gets a blu-ray release in the US, but not the UK. SummerSlam 2010 gets a blu-ray release in the UK, but not the US. There’s no rhyme or reason for these decisions it seems like.

  11. LP1 says:

Again, the people hating on blu-ray sound just like the people who hated on VHS when VHS started taking over Betamax in the early 80’s. And they sound like the same people that hated on DVD’s when DVD’s started taking over VHS in the late 90’s/early 2000’s. Hate all you want, you either change with the times or you get left behind.

  12. easy c says:

blue ray is the bomb why have it if you dont sell the discs. After high def i will not go back to buying crap dvds.Your getting alot more for the extra 5 bucks.

  13. Rocko says:

But to each their own. I’m not completely anti-bluray. I just don’t see the point in buying it unless the bluray special features are must own.

  14. Rocko says:

@vince. I’m not cheap, I’m savvy. I once bought 7 used WWE dvd sets on Amazon for about $20 including shipping. All were in original cases and in perfect condition. How many bluray sets could I have gotten for $20? Definitely not 19 dvds worth. If that makes me “cheap”, then I’m happy to be that. Sorry I don’t have piles of money to spend on the most expensive stuff. Student loans are a bitch.

@Simon. This is actually something that pisses me off. Oftentimes, the extra footage is take or leave. For example, the Greatest Superstars of the 21st Century dvd has a handful of more recent matches as bonus features that I don’t have as much interest in as those on the regular dvd set. But when they only include the Montreal Screwjob on the bluray of Michaels/Hart, that’s bullshit. That would be like releasing a McMahon/Austin dvd and only including the first Stunner on the bluray. And a match or two from Raw the following night doesn’t justify spending extra, at least not in my eyes.

  15. Simon says:

@Rocko: I’m generally not a technology fan at all. My mobile phone is a flip phone from 2004 and I’ve no interest in Smartphones and such like. Additionally, I’ve no interest – sexual or otherwise – in seeing Cena’s beefy arms in crystal clear quality.

But having seen WWE HD, it’s hard to resist. It just looks awesome. Funnily enough, the primary reason I bought a Blu Ray player is because WWE is loading its Blu Ray discs with so much bonus content (especially in the UK, with the extra Raw/SD episodes). Picture quality aside, you’d be a fool not to take advantage of all this extra footage.

  16. vince says:

The only F’n reason why people keep hating on wwe blu rays is because 1. They don’t have a HD tv or 2. They’re just to cheap!

  17. Jesse Lanning says:

    well said Rocko

  18. Rocko says:

I have 20/20 vision, thank you very much. I see the difference… but it’s not the huge leap like vhs to dvd was. Yes, the picture is a little clearer. But if an ultra clear picture is vital to the enjoyment of said movie, I’m probably not interested (save for a few rare exceptions). Besides, I prefer pro wrestling not be super ultra clear. A little grain adds charm and I don’t really need to see every vein protruding from Cena’s arms in crystal clear clarity.

But again, I’m in the minority because I don’t get a boner for every big new advancement in electronics.

  19. Simon says:

@Rocko: You don’t see the difference between DVD and Blu-Ray? You might want to head down to your local opticians young man.

  20. billy con carne says:

stop the bluray hatin, you don’t like it….. don’t buy it

  21. Rocko says:

Bluray is basically a high definition dvd with better picture and sound quality. I personally don’t see a big enough difference to pay an extra $5-10 for it over regular dvd but may people HAVE to have it.

  22. Anonymous says:

Wow. Surprised some people are so anti-bluray. I mean, it’s a BETTER format than DVD. That’s inarguable. Why wouldn’t you want a product you love to be available on the best format possible? They’re BARELY more expensive than DVDs these days too. Really mind-boggling to read some of this in the year 2011.

  23. Anonymous says:

Seriously what the fudge is bluray

  24. Daniel Bee says:

That DVD/Blu-ray will both become obsolete in time? Elaborate then 🙂

  25. Thomas says:

    I totally disagree Daniel Bee

  26. Brett Mix says:

I’m not advanced with the blu Ray either but know one day I will jabe to be. OH well I’m fine for now

  27. Daniel Bee says:

Your DVDs AND Blu-rays will both become obsolete one day, just like your VHS tapes and your old brick sized mobile phone did. That’s the way it goes. If “Best PPV Matches” is replacing all PPV Blu-rays going forward, this one wouldn’t be on the format.

So that’s not much of an argument, Al, despite the 5 or 6 comments you wrote. 😉

  28. Simon says:

@Alvaro: Doesn’t it work the other way though? If WWE released all PPVs on Blu Ray they’d get 12 purchases a year, whereas by just releasing the ‘Best Of’ Blu Ray it’s only the one purchase a year.

@Anonymous: Your DVDs won’t become obselete because Blu Ray players play DVDs.

  29. alvaro says:

the reason wwe ppvs are only going to be release in dvd format is because wwe is going to do the best of ppv matches every year so fans buy the best of the year matches on bluray cause we wont have the matches on bluray

  30. al says:

stop inventing shit, dvd is just fine. If it aint broken dont fixed.

  31. Anonymous says:

bluray sucks, stop inventing shit, dont want my dvd collection to become obsolete. Please stop inventing shit dvd is just fine. If it aint broken dont fixed.
