NXT! NXT! NXT! – WWE’s New ‘NXT Greatest Matches Vol. 1’ DVD Released Early… And Edited?

March 9, 2016 by Daniel Bee

The next upcoming WWE DVD, “NXT Greatest Matches Vol. 1” (a new preview clip of which is shown above), has been released early to fans, seemingly worldwide!

In what may have been an error, Amazon Canada’s listing for the Blu-ray edition had its release date marked as yesterday, March 8th, and customers have begun receiving their orders this week. The DVD version remains listed with the official March 15th street date and is yet to ship.

The UK is also being treated to the NXT compilation early, as confirmed by this tweet:

And we’re hearing that fans in the United States aren’t being completely left out – copies of both the DVD and Blu-ray have been found on sale early at selected stores:

An edit has been spotted in the “NXT Greatest Matches Vol. 1” DVD/Blu-ray content.

In the first match featured on the compilation, Seth Rollins vs. Jinder Mahal from 2012, Rollins’ Curb Stomp (Blackout) finishing move has been edited out. That part of the match has not been completely omitted, but as the move is being delivered a crowd shot is shown instead.

The replay of the match ending then shows Rollins covering Mahal without the Curb Stomp before hand, and therefore the music playing in the background doesn’t quite match up correctly.

Rumor has it the move was ‘banned’ by WWE management last year.

Just went to my local fye they had 1 bluray copy and 2 dvd copys. lets see how it turns out :O 😀

  2. RabidHeat says:

I really don’t have the energy more to complain about anything as it’s something different every day, lol. I’ll just accept the edit; I fold.

  3. Johnny W. says:

Editing out the Curb Stomp sets an odd precedent. There have been many moves and incidents “banned” before, but DVD releases have been left mostly untouched regarding edits to remove actual moves. How many times have we seen Owen Hart’s piledriver botch to Steve Austin, that actually DID injure him? If anything, it makes more sense to censor that. What’s odd though, is the fact that nothing has been removed on the Network. What’s to stop them from removing the Curb Stomp to Reigns at WrestleMania when Rollins wins, just like they have done with the replay packages?! But they have left the actual match and all others intact.

You can edit/remove commentary. You can edit promos. You can cut out certain shots. But flat out omitting the finishing move of a match seems wrong. It was the damn finish! Why even include the match at that point?

Still looking forward to this awesome dvd though and checking out some pre-Network NXT that is STILL not available on the Network!

    • Ruthless.Attitude.Eras.4Life says:

Sadly, edits and cuts are more and more to be and come.. Blood turned black and white (Monday Night War volumes), Lesnar giving the middle finger to Undertaker, which tells such a great story in the story is blurred..

Never in a million years will it make me stop buying the sets I feel for..but still an annoying attitude from the WWE imo.. I just hope that the up coming Lesnar release has the Summerslam 2015 match on, uncut and unedited..after all, The Beast was allowed to give the fingers to the MSG crowd and Austin at WM XX on his “Here comes the Pain”-release. 😉

  4. Donald says:

Early is good, but gee… maybe instead of editing the DVDs, they should edit their product instead. Lolsmh. It’s still a good pick-up for me because I don’t have the WWE Network to watch NXT due to no Wi-Fi. They could’ve edited the opening match to have the other Cesaro/Zayn match on there or Sasha Banks vs Becky Lynch – both were incredible matches based on what I’ve seen highlights of and what I’ve heard from.

  5. Joseph Napolitano says:

There is a match between Seth Rollins vs Jinder Mahal from FCW 2012 on Youtube where Rollins does the curb stomp to Mahal setting up a different finisher that is free to watch

  6. Tommy D says:

Yeah, I got mine yesterday at FYE. I was so excited. Love it so far.

  7. LP1 says:

The reason WWE stopped Rollins from using the curbstomp is because of the ongoing concussion lawsuit brought against them by several former wrestlers. It’s not because they didn’t like the move anymore or because they thought It was “too violent”. It’s legal maneuvering. Once this lawsuit is over you’ll see the move being used again.

Now with that out of the way, I can’t wait for this NXT blu-ray. Probably my most anticipated BR release this year. If anyone says they’re not buying it because one move in one match isn’t shown, then they had no plans to buy it in the first place.

  8. Justin F says:

The Piledriver was banned for a long time but WWE kept the move in archival footage. The Curb Stomp is no different. Stupid WWE.

    • Ruthless.Attitude.Eras.4Life says:

Only difference is, that no brainless idiots (to my knowledge at least) have found it “cool” to piledrive each others….yet! If…and I’m afraid I have to rather say When, since how things are evolving these days…some braindeads will do that, and its blown out in the publicity, rest assure, that move will also be erased as it never happend.

  9. John says:

What a dumb edit but it will not keep me from getting it

  10. Ian says:

Did they edit it out of the ppv match collection dvd set where Seth wins the WWE title at Wrestlemania

  11. Ruthless.Attitude.Eras.4Life says:

I’m so sick and tired of these stupid cuts..worse than the blurring..

some stockholder saw American History X..a movie from freakin’ 1998.. and told Vince: “Uuuuh.. that’s just too violent, erase it from your history as it never happend, or else..” or what ever the reason is for this ban..

WWE really needs to stand by, what they deliver.. is Seth curb stomping his opponents so they get their brains bashed.? ehmmm, no! A clothesline should be banned then too, cos gods know, what else could happen, if the performer taking that hit lands wrong.. same with supplex, you name it..

Finally a cool move for long time, reality bites, in form of some few idiots that can not tell REAL reality from fiction and just have to try what they do in movies and entertainment ring …and again..WWE re-writes its own history.. Sad..

  12. Patrick R says:

I was happy to come home yesterday to see my copy of “NXT’s Greatest Matches” in the mail. Haven’t watched it yet but I don’t like that the WWE have edited out a move but what can you do. Does anyone know of any pre-WrestleMania sales that any US Retailers have planned?

    • Jeff Copeland says:

well… we just had one in jan wwe walmart sale so maybe ?. normaly every before or even bit after wm we get a walmart sale wwe wise so who knows.

  13. Eric says:

I’m buying it, but that edit is dumb. I would have rather them have left the match off completely.

    • Jeff Copeland says:

its kinda hard cause it crowns first nxt champion but they did leave off benoit vs guerrero from u.s title dvd coming out to crown 1st wwe us champion so i could see your point
