Here’s an interview we conducted with Andrew Ho of ordervcd.com to clear up debates on the authenticity of these WWE DVD’s.
Whenever we post photos of the Sendi Mutiara WWE DVD’s from Malaysia here on WWEDVDNews, we get lots of comments from people who pass them off as fakes. Can you put that theory to rest by explaining how they are released so fast and why they often look different?
Sendi Mutiara has to sell WWE DVD’s fast in Malaysia. Just imagine, Sendi Mutiara sells WWE DVD’s in Malaysia Ringgit (currency), but they have to pay expensive licensing fees to WWE in US Dollars, and furthermore Malaysia has a small market compared to the USA and the UK. Through it all, Sendi Mutiara is facing the huge problem of pirated WWE DVD’s in Malaysia. The artwork is different from the UK or USA, but that’s understandable as Sendi Mutiara nor WWE can wait too long because of pirated DVD’s in Malaysia.
I heard from Sendi Mutiara that there is a special arrangement in place between WWE and themselves because of the pirated WWE DVD in Malaysia. Due to that problem, if Sendi Mutiara were to release WWE PPVs on DVD 1-2 months after they originally aired, the whole market share will be captured by pirated WWE DVD’s.
That makes sense. To actually release them that quick, what process is involved?
Usually WWE uploads the video via high speed internet to one of our TV stations in Malaysia, which I believe is TV3. Sendi Mutiara will collect the WWE video files from TV3, then it will take 2 to 3 days for Sendi Mutiara to prepare printing and to get the WWE DVD’s into the market.
So how do you tell which WWE DVD’s from Malaysia are genuine and which are not?
For the pirated copies in Malaysia, there is no address printed on the back of the artwork, and no hologram attached in front of the artwork. There will be no round (light cream color) sticker attached to the back of the artwork either. Compare them and you will see the difference.
