Recent UK Exclusive WWE PPV Blu-rays Confirmed Region Free

January 23, 2012 by Daniel Bee

Following the recent updates here on the site that the WWE SummerSlam 2011 Blu-ray (released exclusively in Europe) looked to be region free, many of our readers located in the United States have took the task of importing a copy to try it out.

They’ve reported back to us that this and the following WWE PPV released on the Blu-ray disc format, Night of Champions 2011, are both indeed working on their Region A BD systems, whether that be the Playstation 3 console or standalone players.

Ryan: Got summerslam โ€™11 in from Amazon uk yesterday, played fine on my Sony blu ray player. Iโ€™ve already ordered Night of Champions and Hell in a cell. Iโ€™ll update as soon as I get both and test them out. I hope everyone continues to update the region free discs as they become available.

Dave: Received Summerslam 2011 and Night of Champions 2011 from Amazon uk. I can also confirm both worked flawlessly on all three of my region A Blu-ray players (160GB PS3, Sony BDP-S580 and BDP-S380), all connected via HDMI and quality and sound are amazing. No PAL to NTSC framerate issues, since HDMI fixes all that.

Cody: Just got my Night of Champions 2011 blu ray from amazon uk and it is region free. I checked it on my US PS3, and a Sony Region A player, and it played fine on both players.

Geolink: Got my SS โ€™11 Blu-ray! It works! Holy &#*! Survivor Series 2011 here I come!

Without doubt this is good news for collectors outside of Europe, as it looks promising that going forward each release will be region free. If you can get your hands on them (one way is Amazon.co.uk), so far they play identically to typical WWE Blu-ray’s released in the US.

If you’ve followed the situation lately you will know WWE is currently only producing Blu-ray editions of the major events of Royal Rumble and WrestleMania in the United States, whilst the UK now gets each PPV on Blu-ray disc format for the foreseeable future.

    Summerslam 2011 blu-ray is legit cheap at Amazon.co.uk right now – 7.25

  2. pmdmf says:

I saw some tagged classics on ebay I would like but they are region 2. My PlayStation 3 is region 1, but the word all appears next to 1. I’m wondering if that means that they would play anyway. Any help is appreciated.

Got my SummerSlam ’11 Blu-ray from Amazon.co.uk, and that couldn’t have been easier. Used my same Amazon login, shipping took a bit longer than I thought, but I was thrilled when it played perfectly on my US PS3 (thin).

If the trend continues, I’ll get every blu-ray I can from the UK that isn’t available in the US. I just bought the remaining 3 that have been released (Vengeance, NoC, HiaC) so I’ll confirm here that those 3 also play on my PS3 when they get here!

Got my SummerSlam blu-ray, awesome that it’s region free, really enjoyed the extras. I hope Survivor Series is region free too.

Vengeance 2011 is coming out Feb 6 on Amazon UK

  6. tickc317 says:

i can ship to the usa if you guys want…my email is joejeep123@hotmail.com

  7. Vincenzzzzzo says:

I’m pretty sure it is, but, can anyone confirm if Vengeance 2011 is also region free? I don’t even know if its been released in the UK yet.

  8. Geolink says:

@Daniel Yeah, your right bro. I’m still excited LOL. WWE is just taking my money like always ๐Ÿ˜‰

  9. Geolink says:

Can we please have this post stickied somewhere on the main page if it’s possible?

    • Daniel Bee says:

It’s unlikely they will suddenly turn Region B again that quick Geolink, but if anybody emails or comments that the latest one anytime is actually not region free then I’ll make an article alerting everybody. No posts get stickied, sorry. You and others are welcome to bookmark this page.

Pity I’m not in the UK right now. If I was I’d set up some system of buying from Silver Vision and myself shipping on to WWEDVDNews readers in the states who want them quicker than Amazon offer.

  10. Ryan says:

I can confirm that both night of champions ’11 and hell in the cell ’11 both play fine in my region 1 Sony blu ray player.

Also the symbol with the letter B in it denoting region is not on the Hell in the cell packaging. Hope this trend continues with future releases.

  11. Geolink says:

If only U.S. can order from Silvervision… I’m shuddering at the fact that I have to wait till March to get Survivor Series ’11 on Blu-ray… Already pre-ordered, but jeez the wait is gonna be long!

  12. Dave says:

    @ Cody Schields

Nice! thanks for the update…looking forward to getting my copy.

  13. Cody Schields says:

Just got my copy of Hell in a Cell 2011 on silvervision blu ray and it is region free as well. Played fine on my US PS3 and region A Sony player.

@RMPunk – I’ve paid in the range of $19 to $23 on imported blu rays from amazon uk with shipping. Hell in a Cell was $23 when I ordered, but I also got a $3 refund due to amazon’s preorder price guarantee.

  14. RMPunk says:

So what price did you guys who imported it from Amazon UK pay?

  15. WWEBluFan says:

Has anybody checked on WrestleMania 27? IIRC, the UK got a better set than did the USA (specifically the preceeding RAW & Smackdowns).

  16. JFR_WWfE79 says:

Just got my copy of SummerSlam 2011 imported from Amazon UK and it plays great on my Panasonic DMP-BD80 Blu-ray Player. I’ll have to get Night of Champions 2011 imported soon and hope Hell In A Cell 2011 to TLC 2011 will be region free too.

  17. SRB says:

@Dave. Right. Just bought a region free player from Amazon and bought a few tagged classics while I was at it. I’m gonna save up a bit and grab some more. Great Christmas gift to myself.

  18. Vincenzzzzzo says:

My blu-ray player is region free as far as DVD’s are concerned, so its time I also started collecting Tagged Classics.

  19. Vincenzzzzzo says:

Excellent news…. I too hope that the updates will keep on coming as far as which new releases are region free. There should be a special thread made where updates can happen exclusively to regin free blu-rays.

  20. Dave says:

    @ SRB

Correct, Silver Vision decides on whether they want to have them region free or not. Region free DVD players are cheap and you can easily import them from Amazon uk which is what i did.

I completed all the In Your House events, King of the Ring 93-99, Survivor Series 97-99 and select ppvs from 1999 to No Way Out 2001.

I don’t think WWE will ever release these in North America, so this is probably the only way.

  21. SRB says:

I wish every WWE DVD was region free. It sure would make tagged classics easier. but, i know WWE doesnt have much say in those

  22. Brandon says:

Are the UK versions of SummerSlam 2010 through Extreme Rules 2011 region free or Region B locked?

  23. Dave says:

    @ Cody Schields,

I also should be expecting Hell in a Cell any day now (i ordered Jan 15 and shipped next day)…will also confirm the results…but definitely looks promising.

  24. Geolink says:

I wonder if Documentaries will also be Region-free.

  25. Cody Schields says:

@Skyler – yeah, rumble 2009 is not region free. I believe the region free started with SummerSlam 2011. I have rumble 09 and summerslam 09 on silvervision blu ray, and they are both region b locked.

  26. Skyler says:

I got Royal Rumble 2009 last week from UK and it will not play on my PS3.

  27. Cody Schields says:

Should be getting Hell in a Cell this week, and I will let you know my results on that.
