About once a fortnight (sometimes more often) we are asked by readers of the site if there is any news on WWE continuing the Survivor Series Anthology DVD set. So to make things easier for everybody this article is to clarify what we know on it.
Back in January of this year we asked WWE directly about it, via an employee in the relevant Home Entertainment field, and received this response:
“Hopefully this year for the Survivor Series Anthology but I am not too optimistic.”
Throughout the year there has been no further update on it, nor any indication on any schedule that the Survivor Series Anthology will continue. Given that it has been several years now since the original volumes were released, and that WWE apparently now favour releasing “Best of” compilations rather than complete collections, it would seem unlikely the series will be completed.
Volumes 1 and 2 (1987-1996) are still being produced, available to buy at Silvervision.co.uk.
When is the survivor series anthlogy vol3 coming to nz and when are the summerslam anthlogys coming to nz
It’s not because of Chris Benoit, look at the Royal Rumble anthology Vol 4, they showed the match Benoit won! its not about chris benoit!
Tell me when its coming and ready to write down the matches on my pad.
dolph ziggler’ı örnek alıyorum. ama wwe’deki bütün güreşçileri seviyorum
A few things for IF they ever release the rest of this set.
1) Chris Benoit will NOT be removed from the Survivor Series shows he was involved in. His removal from 24/7 and other dvd releases are a seperate issue. Forget the Mania/Rumble/Slam anthologies, you’ve overlooked the fact that the 2005 Elim Chamber he was involved in WAS included on that release. These Anthology volumes run 40-50 bucks,he won’t be removed from them.
2) McMahon doesn’t have to fork out extra money to pay someone to blur logos or overdub music. He all ready has his own video staff that does that. DVD production is cost effective for his company. Since he owns all of the source material his only real costs are menus and packaging/distribution. With relatively low production costs the WWE doesn’t have to sell a quarter of a million units to make their money back
Other than the normal blurring of logos and dubbed music,Vol.3/Vol.4 would be released as there were. Period.
As for consumer cost being a reason for non-release…lol,please. Uh,how much are the WWE pay-per-views these days? $50 for the go betweens and $55 for the bigger shows? Does that sound like they worry about comsumer cost? Have they slashed prices? No,and they won’t be doing so anytime soon. As long as people pay what they are asking for their shows/tickets/merchandise,those prices aren’t going to take a slide.
like wwe
I am collecting of all the wwe pay per view events on dvd with a representive HMV and I’m asking to bring WWE Survivor Series Vol. 3 1997-2001 if you can.
@Dave
I justed watched Starrcade 99 on WWE Classics and I thought Jarrett wrestled Dustin Rhodes?
@ Simon
I don’t think blurring and editing is an issue. Those events were shown on Classics on Demand in the last couple years and the the WWF logo and references are edited…also matches involving Benoit are completely removed.
WWE aired Summerslam 2005 few months back and Benoit vs. Orlando Jordan was removed and started with Edge/Matt Hardy. No Way Out 2003 was also aired and they removed Lesnar/Benoit vs Team Angle.
Currently WWE is airing WCW Starrcade 1999 and Benoit/Jarrett ladder match is removed as well.
Thats right we want Survivor Series anthology vol 3 and 4!
WWE please release the complete survivor series anthology, i’n dying for it.
I guess it’s a combination of poor sales and the fact they can’t be bothered to pay staff to blur out the entire 1998-2001 shows (that must be a seriously time-consuming process).
I agree with the petition. It will complete the Big 4. They shouldn’t have started if they had no intention of finishing. All it does is tease us. At least give us volume 3. If I have to, I’ll search ebay for the rest.
It sucks that this anthology will more than likely never be finished.I really wanted volume 3 just for 97-99 cause I have 00-06 on the original DVD.Benoit shouldn’t be a problem cause if volume 3 would have been released,He would only be on the 2000 Survivor Series since in 01,he was injured. But its wishful thinking at this point
@oldschool–agreed–why should we not have all ppvs available to us?
i can understand over the edge 99 being buried away but the rest should be available.
and lets see some WCW ppvs too.
wee needs to release tagged classics here, survivor series tag them up already
@ SRB
Good point, i really do hope some day they do release the rest.
Also was hoping a King of the Ring Anthology since it would have been perfect to fit in 2 Volumes;
Volume 1 – 1993 to 1997
Volume 2 – 1998 to 2002
And as a bonus they could have added the 2006, 2008 and 2010 tournament matches.
@SRB I couldn’t have said it better myself.. PLEASE WWEDVDNEWS.com start a petition to get WWE to finish the set
@Dave, i feel like the consumers are real fans anyways. To me there are 3 types of WWE collector’s. 1) the person who gets random releases based on their own reasons for buying one over the other. 2) people like myself who pretty much buy everything to add to the collection. 3) people who buy sets and not pay per views. Either way, the real fans will buy what they want and the ones who dont simply wont, but WWE needs to realize that the release of box sets might encourage fans that were once casual fans into becoming die hard fans like myself and maybe like you. In the world no one wants half of something and no one wants to buy something that is incomplete. If i were a new WWE fan and saw the entire Wrestlemania history box set on the shelf i would be very interested in buying it to add to my collection and to further educate myself since I’m new to collecting. Releasing half of something, especially in the DVD format from WWE is just plain dumb. If WWE decided to release the rest of the series tomorrow and put a $300.00 price tag on the rest of the collection, believe it or not i would start saving my money, thats what type of fan i am.
I’d be fine with them releasing just 97-99 snice ive got 00-02 on VHS anyway
It’s just a shame. Survivor Series 97 is so rare, 98 was fun with the Deadly Game tournament, 99 and 00 were meh but still fun, 2001 was very good, 2002 was epic, 2003 was also great.
Only reason I could think of is cost for the consumer…WWE probably wanted to test the sales for Volume 1 and 2 before completing…and most likely those didn’t sell as well as WWE hope to continue.
I can imagine the complete Anthology boxsets probably did not sell well because to real honest fans won’t spend $150, i remember stores had maximum of 2 boxsets, some even 1…also volumes costs about $40-$45, which is above a standard 3 disc release, which is likely out of budget.
The Wrestlmana and Royal Rumble set’s were already out before Chris Benoit died. And the Sumerslam set was in post production after the fact. Was why Benoit was intact on both set’s. The Survivor Series Anthologhy was not relesed before.
I think the Benoit thing has played a factor in it. And also why we never seen a histgory of the US title yet. The other resion is I think WWE was going to srap Survivor Series in 09. But changed there mind about it later in 2010. I think they should release Vol. 3 to get the attude era and the get 97-98 out in the US. As far as benoit go’s. I agree with WWE as far as not showing him. But sometime’s you can’t get around it with the Anthology’s. But Vol 3 should came out atleast.
I have a feeling that I’ll order Tagged Classics sets or individual Survivor Series DVD’s – then they’ll release the rest of the anthology making me waste my money.
Survivor Series 1993, 1994, 1995&1996 were recently aired
on WWE Classics on Demand within the last year frame. I watched
a few of them bits and bits there of top matches from the cards
but dont mind if there not released.
Survivor Series 1997-2002 were
very much different and they seemed less careless about the event it’s
self that is why we only see 1 survivor series classic match each year now.
@WWEguy Even so, region free DVD Players can be brought for cheap, or even better, you can make your DVD Player region free by looking for an unlock region code. ;P
@ ALK Yes some are region free but not all im not too sure though,
Tagged classics are way to go or just download the PPVs online but make sure u find good quality ;p
More to the point, stop putting up with WWE’s edits and import the UK’s Tagged Classics! They’re unedited, some come with extras, and I believe they’re region free. 😉
Thats a shame it would have been good to have the complete collection,
Volume 4 would have been ideal for me 2002-2006 as those ppvs would be the original airings and would have not been edited heavily maybe with the exception of benoit but who knows,
Volume 3 would be good 1997-2001 but would be edited heavily with the blurring of the scratch logo, from 98-01, how would they edit the survivor series 2001 ppv with the wwf vs alliance situation, would they dub the commentary to say WWE vs alliance etc, 1997 event would have been good to own it would have been available to america for the first time on dvd all though you can purchase it on tagged classic along side survivor series 1998 here in the UK/Europe but the picture quality on the 1997 event on tagged classic is not good, you have a jump frame rate and u can see the vhs lines go down the middle of the screen, so in a way i was looking forward to the 1997 event on dvd with the better picture quality despite it might being edited with the WWF words and that.
Another reason that it could be is because of Chris benoit but i highly doubt that as the volumes 4 for royal rumble and summerslam were released when the benoit situation happened so really he is not a problem, i just guess WWE think its better to release best of sets which aren’t that good anyway.
Praying one day hopefully there will be a chance and they will release Volumes 3 and 4 🙂 but WWE never are kind.
Too much Benoit.
Yes, I know they released the Summerslam sets with him intact, but it’s only reason I can think of, in case they changed there minds.
That, or they’re cutting down on Attitude era sets for their PG era…
Honestly, after how minor SurSer has come off the past several years, I wouldn’t be shocked if the Anthology sets sold poorly. I can imagine WrestleMania, SummerSlam, and Royal Rumble all did well because, well…they’re projected as being important while Survivor Series just isn’t anymore. Collectors might want them, but how many casual fans want to buy a set of DVDs for a PPV that isn’t even special anymore?
WWE needs to realize that true DVD collectors and fans will never get over this and i am one of these people. The questions and complaints will continue until this is released and fans often wonder why this out of all the big 4 sets was the one that got the shaft. Does anyone really know why they only chose to release the first half? You really cant release half of something and expect people not to notice, especially the WWE universe. If they want to edit out Benoit then go ahead, just release it. At this point you can release volumes 3, 4 and 5.
