Since last week you’ve been hearing of WWE’s plans to release a new DVD on The Rock for 2012. We can now say for definite it’s on the way and exclusively reveal some first details.
We can confirm the new release will be a 3-Disc DVD collection, and for the first time WWE will produce a feature length Blu-ray of The Rock, which will be a 2-Disc set.
WWE have not yet made a final decision on a name for the production, so as of now it’s listed on the schedule as simply “The Rock”. That will change later.
Unlike with his previous WWE Home Video release, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will this time be involved in terms of filming new footage to be included on the set.
We can also confirm the previously revealed release date of February 21st, 2012 – on the road to The Rock vs. John Cena at WrestleMania 28.

He electrified a generation of sports entertainment fans with his brash style, superb athleticism, and uproarious interviews. He held the WWE Championship a record seven times, and was known for legendary battles with “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, Triple H, Mick Foley, Undertaker, and more.
And at the peak of his popularity, he made a move to conquer a new industry, becoming an enormous movie star. Now, he’s back in WWE, ready to main event the biggest WrestleMania in history, “The People’s WrestleMania.”
In the exciting buildup to WrestleMania XVIII, fans can, for the first time ever on DVD, relive the exciting life and times of the Rock. Packed with brand new interviews as well as a selection of the Rock’s biggest career-spanning bouts, moments, and promos, this DVD/Blu-Ray set will electrify every member of Team Bring It!
Quoting WWE Home Video on Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s popularity,
“The Rock is a significant name in both the world of sports entertainment and film. His last 3 films (Fast Five, Faster, Toothfairy) generated over $293 in the box office and on DVD sold over 1.1MM units in the first week. The Rock “Brings It” in 2012 with Journey 2: The Mysterious Island in theaters and WrestleMania 28 – Rock vs. Cena on PPV. “Team Bring It” revitalized The WWE as WWE Raw sees 13% lift in viewers following Rock’ss return, and WrestleMania 27 reaches 1MM pay-per-view buys with Rock as host (a 30+ % lift).”
Judging by the details we have at present (the synopsis above and related media info) it appears that as of now The Rock’s involvement with this WWE project will be for interview pieces related to content shown. That seems to rule out this particular DVD being the final biographical release.
Since there is no mention of a career spanning documentary, and given that the DVD/Blu-ray is released prior to the WrestleMania 28 event, it would appear right now that it will be a new collection of matches and moments with The Rock’s comments on these and his life in general.
Amazon is already taking pre-orders for the February 21st, 2012 release here.

I’d like to see rock’s match with hogan for no way out in 2003. And his 2002 match with Ric flair. The 3 way with rock HHH and brock lesner. The only other matche’s that Rock had that have not be released are of with chris benoit. Nothing of Benoit will ever be released.
@Dave: The picture quality of Tagged Classics I’ve found to be rather poor – by far inferior to WWE’s footage archive. Additionally, TC’s don’t feature TV shows (ie. Raw or Smackdown), so no, not every match out there is already covered by them.
As to your last point, no – nobody is telling me to buy every single DVD. However, I *want* to buy certain DVDs, and can be frustrated when the line-up doesn’t live up to expectations.
Dave that is exactly what is going to happen. Too many repeats.. no buy. I use to buy every dvd. Now i pick and choose because its a rip off if you own all the other dvds. And its not so bad if 3 or 4 matches are repeats but 9 and up out of 22 is bullshit. They should try and get fans to buy the other dvd sets aswell. This will maybe boost their dvd sales.
What’s wrong with people in repeats, that’s all people complain about here (as well as how crappy a so and so cover looks)…if you live in the UK, about every ppv is released in tagged classics so whatever DVD they release will be repeated.
Get use to it…WWE will use repeats…simple…nobody is telling you buy every single WWE DVD just because it has their logo on it.
@captain planet
totally agree captain.
All they had to do was wait a few months, film a doc, and then have maybe a small handful of brand new HD matches (at the very least, 2, but realistically he’ll probably have a few tag matches or something leading to WM28). Throw in some major match repeats, do some left off ones from the previous DVD, and there you go – a complete, modern, Rock bio with all the matches you could want.
Not to excited about this one, I mean they have already released a ROCK dvd, why another one? And they are not going to include his survivor series (return) Tag team match and one of the biggest matches of his career vs John Cena at mania 28. No point of releasing this if they won’t include those 2 matches plus The Rock vs Triple H – Iron Man Match
and The Rock vs Steve Austin from Rebellion 2002, we’ll have to see. THIS IS JUST MY OPINION PEOPLE. 🙂
They will screw this up. Hope they put him and Austin’s WM matches cause they aren’t on any other DVD. Sarcasm
I just hope if they put promos they put stuff when he first joined NOD and began picking up steam. His last set had such dumb comedy promos. i watched them once and never watched them again. Im not that excited for this. Its going to be full of repeats anyway.
There has been some good stuff in his career that has not yet been released on any compilation set. Hopefully this beats the trend of having 75% repeats and putting the rare stuff on blu-ray only.
SRB
I disagree. Having promos from cetain wrestlers, like The Rock, is a great addition to any DVD set. Some wrestlers’ promos are classic and should be included.
I really cant stand when they do an entire disc (Usually the 3rd disc) dedicated to promos and interviews. I dont think too many people are really gonna sit there and watch 3 hours, or by the new WWE times on a disc 1 hour and 49 minutes of mic work. I fear that will happen here.
just like the upcoming stone cold release, i dont own any of the previous sets. so i can see myself picking this one up
No documentary, thumbs down. I like the rock do not get me wrong. He, Mick foley and Triple H need a documentary dvd.
@Brad Attitude
Sadly, that’s about as likely as the Boogeyman being on the set… 🙁
Well it sounds like its all matches 🙁 No Documentary will b added 2this 1 from the start of Rocky Maivia-The Rock’s career 🙁 I was hoping 4 it2b like Austin’s latest blu-ray cos i only watch old matches – the time Shawn left. After that i stopped watching it n only by the blu-rays with old matches/documentaries now.
If Benoit vs. The Rock from Fully Loaded 2000 is not part of the match listing, then I’m not gonna bother with the dvd then 😉
The Rock returning to Toronto in February 2003 is also required.

What new “classic bouts” can be put on this set that haven’t been released on his previous DVDs? Sounds like I’m going to pass on this one.
I meant The Rock vs Steve Austin from Rebellion 2001
Matches that need to be on this DVD:
The Rock vs Triple H – Iron Man Match
The Rock vs Mankind – I Quit Match
The Rock vs Steve Austin from Rebellion 2002
