Breaking: WWE Producing New DVD on The Rock for Early 2012?

November 3, 2011 by Daniel Bee

Amazon have put up for a listing for a new WWE DVD release on The Rock over here.

The page reveals the scheduled release date of February 21st, 2012 to the USA.

Given Dwayne Johnson’s return to WWE this year and ongoing working relationship with the company for TV and other projects, this seems very feasible. No surprise either that the release would be timely, on the road to Rock/Cena at WrestleMania 28.

If the DVD (mostly likely Blu-ray too) turns out to be legit, and it’s looking that way, we should have official details on it in the coming days. Stay tuned.

I pretty sure it’s Like they included Austin matches in Rock DVD. because The Austin and Rock Rivalry is legendary. Also i don’t know some of you already complaning about the upcoming Stone Cold DVD coming out by the end this month. We haven’t even yet seem. You should know it’s possilbe Stone Cold DVD could turn great since it’s a Documentary. The Matches don’t matter the extras like his promos well. Plus The Rock DVD i agree with you on some what you say. I think it’s the best Rock should be release ever Wrestlemania 28. That way his match with John Cena would be in it. I sure maybe his survivor series match coming up this month should be include since it marks his WWE in ring match wrestlemania 20. I look forward to this DVD hopefully it’s good.

  2. consider this paid for

  3. Roaster says:

It’s not like the Rock/Cena match is going to be a classic so I’m happy with it coming out in Feb. Hopefully no Austin matches since they’re all (except Backlash 99 and Rebellion) on the new Austin set.

  4. WWEBluFan says:

I kind of understand what you guys are saying…. if Mania 28 really is the end of his career. If so, then YEAH, wait and do this after so you can have a FINAL Blu/DVD that caps his entire career.

However, I kind of take Rock at his word that he’s not leaving. I mean, the people that misunderstood what he was saying and really did think he meant he’ll be at EVERY RAW & Smackdown for the rest of his life will be disappointed. However, those of us that took it to mean he’ll wrestle a match or two here and there for the next couple years (or at least make a half dozen or so speaking appearances each year) will probably want ANOTHER Blu/DVD collection that encapsulates this new chapter in his wrestling career.

I would definitely buy another collection in 2014-15 that covers this Survivor Series, Mania 28, the inevitable Cena rematch, a later feud with the Miz or somebody, maybe matches at Manias 29 & 30. Throw in a few more matches pre-2001 (of which there will still be PLENTY to choose from unless this set is insanely comprehensive).

Bring on more Rock Blus/DVDs I say!

    @Harry Faversham
if u wanna pick up half complete/incomplete dvds then thats fine.

  6. captain planet says:

…yeah, release a career retrospective 2 MONTHS before the guy has one of the biggest matches in his career, in his hometown, possibly a HOF induction, etc. Makes sense…

  7. chrisZ says:

    @Charles

I’m asking that same question myself! It’s all so the same thing they did before mania 26 with the shawn michael’s dvd coming out and not adding the final match of his career. Some times WWE makes dumb decisions.

  8. Charles says:

mmm, I really really want a DVD on the Rock with a documentary of his career but I find it odd that they will release it before WM28. Why don’t they wait until after WM28 so they can add the Cena angle and match to complete his career/comeback in the documentary?

  9. @williamWWE says:

Makes sense to me. I mean imagine the money they are going to get from wrestlemania tickets and now that the rock will be on the event, this will sell as HELL even if it has repeats. I’m definitely looking forward for this one!

  10. Brett Mix says:

It’s more the sound of his voice I can’t stand. The way he yells out everything and speaks so fast. I liked him better with the Nation or the Corporation where he would speak so arrogant and slow that it was cool. But ever since 2001 he just speaks a mile a minute and I just shrug it off most times.

  11. Indyfan says:

I agree Brett. Rock annoys me too. Hes really over rated on the mic( this doesn’t mean he sucks on the mic). He strings together comedy catch phrases now. And they aren’t even funny.

  12. Brett Mix says:

When I watch Rock a lot he kind of annoys me, just relies on the same comic act all the time. I’d really have to like the listing to pick this up. I’m glad I already own the Benoit match FL 00, and Judgment Day as well as Backlash 2000 vs HHH.

  13. Anonymous says:

That would be awesome…another Rock dvd set!

  14. SRB says:

If they can get Rock in a chair for 2 hours and talk about his life that would be great. The last thing I want to see are guys like Cody Rhodes and Dolph Ziggler saying what a big influence the Rock was and how charasmatic he is. I look very forward to this release if it’s legit. He and Austin were both right there with each other as far as popularity, draw and crowd reaction. I know there’s millions (and millions) of Austin fans out there but I personally always liked Rock a bit more. I enjoyed his matches more, his skill and his mic work. Very excited about this set.

  15. Vincenzzzzzo says:

Sounds good. I’m not one to complain about repeats, so it is what it is. I hope they do the Rock’s DVD like the Stone Cold one coming out.

  16. Harry Faversham says:

Excellent! They have yet to do an in depth retrospective documentary of the Rock’s whole career, So I’m really hoping thats the idea. I’ve also got a feeling that he might be inducted into the Hall of Fame while they are at it and Rock is around. Although it might make sense to leave something for the future. It still shocks me that people complain about Benoit not being on DVDs. The whole thing is insane.

  17. Daniel Bee says:

The Fully Loaded match won’t be on it. Not because of WWE, not because of The Rock but because of Benoit and his actions. Gotta live with that.

  18. Brad Attitude says:

If Chris Benoit vs. The Rock from Fully Loaded 2000 is not in The Rock’s match listing for the dvd, I’m not going to purchase this dvd 😉

  19. indyfan says:

Another one? I hope WWE learned something from releasing so many repeats. They just announced that their dvd sales are down 44% from last year. YIKES!!!!!! I’d like to hear fans( the ones in favor of repeats) explain this one. It sure isn’t the economy. It was bad in 2010 aswell Kids don’t buy DVDs. Hardcore fans do. Keep us happy!!!

  20. WWEBluFan says:

Correction: his ’98 Survivor Series tournament matches (with the exception of the final vs. Mankind) haven’t been released either. Every other match he ever had at a Survivor Series PPV has been released though.

  21. WWEBluFan says:

Rebellion & the 2001 Survivor Series all saw entire event DVD releases, but you’re right that the individual matches haven’t made their way onto any compilations. They’re all old, unblurred releases too, so probably hard for most to find.

I’d actually like to see his 1997 Survivor Series match. It’s his only Survivor Series match that has never been released.

  22. Anonymous says:

If this is anything like the new Austin set, it could turn out to be a majore disappointment. The Rocks last DVD was good, but didn’t include a great verity of matches. This set could use stuff like; Triple H vs. The Rock – Ironman, 6-Pack Challenge vs. Triple H, Mankind, British Bulldog, Big Show & Kane, The Rock vs. Steve Austin – UK Rebellion 2001, The Invasion Survivor Series match. All great matches that I don’t believe have seen releases on DVD.

  23. WWEBluFan says:

Just brainstorming some other matches I’d like to see (that have never been on any previous DVDs/Blus):

-his match with Ric Flair on RAW 2002
-his Smackdown match with Jericho from April ’02 that effectively ended their epic feud
-Judgment Day ’98 vs. Mark Henry
-I believe 3 of his 5 tag title wins have yet to be released, including 1 unreleased Rock n Sock title win
-his classic No Mercy 2000 match vs. Kurt Angle is also inexplicably missing

Anybody else have some favorites they’re hoping to see?

  24. WWEBluFan says:

The blu-ray will be a Day 1 purchase for me. I don’t even need any more details!

The Rock/Triple H Judgment Day 2000 Iron Man match would be a great match to include though. AFAIK, it’s never been released, but I’d love to add it to my collection.

  25. ALK says:

Makes sense, would sell tons released so close to his Mania match.

    Better have a Doc though…
