Exclusive: WWE Planning Best of RAW ‘Off The Air’ DVD & Blu-Ray For 2014

December 23, 2013 by Daniel Bee

WWE Stone Cold & The Rock Share A Beer

You may recall that last month a 2014 WWE DVD Survey was issued to fans which contained a new DVD idea named “Best of RAW: Not on RAW”.

The mini-synopsis for that title on the survey read as follows:

Never before released moments after RAW has gone off the air and the cameras keep rolling. Stone Cold singing to the fans, Vince doing a Spinnarooni, dark matches Cena vs. Edge, etc.

We can today confirm that it’s been green-lighted for the schedule next year!

The new DVD of “post-RAW” segments, skits and matches is as of now slated to be a 3-disc DVD set released in April, with a Blu-ray edition also expected.

  1. Domivee says:

Also, who cares if they have commentary on the matches! You have eyes don’t you? Well then why do you need people to tell you what you’re watching? Don’t you what a more personal experience of the moment? Hearing the wrestlers and crowd more?

  2. Domivee says:

I hope they included the Mr. Perfect vs. Brock Lesnar dark match. Curt whooped him! haha, perfect plex and everything. I want to see that and Kurt Angle vs. Owen Hart.

  3. mdax says:

so the off air footage is going to be with or without commentary?

  4. captain planet says:

It’d be ideal if they just made it an “Off the Air” release comprised of any interesting or worthwhile footage before or after a show (Raw, SD, anything). Man, if they have the Shotgun/Raw dark match between Owen and Kurt Angle filmed, and they likely did to evaluate Kurt’s performance pre-debut, that would be so amazing to see just for the name value.

  5. John says:

Congratulations to the winners! I hope you all sell them for a profit since they are too cheap to give out Blu-Rays!

    • Daniel Bee says:

Once again, we gave away a WWE Blu-ray about a week ago.

      • John says:

So what? You should have give away 9 blu-rays instead of 9 DVDs so obviously, you are too cheap to give out 9 blu-rays

        • Daniel Bee says:

          It was 10.

We’ve given away a lot more than 9 Blu-rays in the near 4 years of running the site. The simple fact is that I more regularly have DVDs in my possession to use as prizes. I know you’re trolling like always (that’s why your comments are automatically held in a moderation queue unlike the appreciative folk who visit here) but let’s try to get somewhere, for once.

    • Simon says:

Dude, actually that’s nice of them to do some contest.. why don’t you make some contest one day and we’ll see who’s cheap! you’re propably too cheap to buy yourself some wrestling stuff so you’re hoping to win??

  6. Erik G. says:

Sounds interesting. Most of this won’t have commentary so they could use humorous comments from wrestlers. I’m not completely sold on it but I am intrigued. I can always go for another comedy set.

  7. Wonderllama says:

Well, you can’t say that WWE isn’t listening to its fans. They keep sending out surveys and it seems to be have a real impact on their products!

  8. RCS1988 says:

If this set features most, if not all of these matches, with other matches & segments as well, then I will definitely buy it. Hopfully, WWE uses footage from the early days of RAW.

    • Domivee says:

You left out Mr. Perfect vs. Brock Lesnar, that’s a really rare one I’d be interested in seeing. I hope this set delivers.

  9. Anonymous says:

This Raw set could be really entertaining or could be monotonous for the viewer depending on their approach. They’ll really have to include some main event level matches to ensure that doesn’t happen. With that said, the only match that I really want on this is:

Triple H vs. Ric Flair in their first match against each other from an August 2002 post show Raw taping

  10. John Peterson says:

I’m actually excited for this set.Its something different

  11. Mark says:

I am hoping for some dark segments and matches from 1993 RAWS. Particularly the WWF Women’s Title Tournament final between Madusa (Alundra Blayze) and Heidi Lee Morgan. It aired only on All American but was taped at a RAW taping.

  12. Jake E says:

Been wanting this for so so long.
Can’t wait to buy if it does come out+have good blu ray extras.
So many great segements and dark matches on youtube therefore there must be so many more better ones in their archives.
Excited(new things to watch-never before seen)!!!!

  13. neverAcquiesce says:

Austin’s last set had the awesome post-Raw spat with The Rock, but it (understandably) ends when Stone Cold leaves. I hope this includes the segment in full.

  14. Anan says:

@Justin F: You’re right. Lots of stuff involving DX. But aside from the DX stuff, HBK and HHH will likely get more time. Cena’s bound to get plenty of time. So is Orton.

@Domenic: Love your list. I doubt all of it will make the cut. But hopefully at least some of it will.

Smackdown has had some good off-air stuff too. Hopefully someday, we’ll get a Smackdown off-air set.

  15. Alan says:

I bought that Judgment Day 2002 DVD back then when it came out. It was the first official WWE PPV after the name change. Good show! The Lesnar/Heyman vs. Hardys is my favorite. JR & King’s commentary is hilarious during that match!

  16. David says:

The last couple months WWE have been including off the air footage of RAW from 1999 on Classics on Demand. Seems like a good release and hopefully include some rare matches.

There was a 5 man Hell in a Cell match on RAW in 2011 the week before the HIAC ppv with Cena, Del Rio, Punk, Ziggler and Swagger. WWE.com had an article on it and photos so looks like it must have been taped. Hopefully that makes it.

Also wonder if WWE will include commentary on the matches.

  17. Dashing Dick says:

Another good one! 2014 is gonna rock for DVDs, isn’t it?

  18. justin f says:

Knowing WWE, we’ll get a ton of DX stuff on there.

  19. Domenic says:

Hopefully all of this content makes the cut…….

  20. Nicolas Hébert says:

Finally an interresting WWE Blu-Ray for 2014!!! I’ll buy it!

  21. StevesDumb says:

There’s going to be too many repeats on this. I’m skipping it

  22. Anan says:

Judging by the above pic, Flair’ s retirement ceremony is gonna be there. I agree with Simon that this would be a great opportunity to include the HBK Appreciation Night. There’s another segment I wanna see. I do not know when this segment took place but judging by Taker’s beard look, I assume it’s 1999. The segment is Taker, Mankind and Austin, each with a can of beer in hand, toasting. It’s just I’ve always seen clips of it, but never saw the full segment.

RAW, the night after Summerslam 2002 will always be special to me because it was the first RAW show I ever went to so the off-air segment from that show would be a nice edition for me.

    • Domenic says:

What was the Post-SummerSlam 2002 segment?

      • Anan says:

Taker lost the #1 Contender’s match to HHH, That aired on the show.

The off-air segment was Taker recovering, hitting the Last Ride on HHH (he may have done something to Lesnar too. I don’t remember), did his usual American Badass celebration, and rode his bike up to the ramp. Not the greatest off-air segment. But being that I was there, I’d like to see it. They will probably skip this in favor of something John Cena related as he gets a lot of time anywhere.

        • Domenic says:

I remember that show. Undertaker vs. Triple H was an awesome match despite the cheap ending, but it is a ”Lost Gem”.

  23. Simon says:

Would also be a good opportunity to include the Shawn Michaels appreciation night from August 2012.

  24. ck says:

Do you know if it also include pre-show matches from developmental?

  25. Simon says:

Really hope that the Bret Hart vs. Shawn Michaels vs. The Undertaker dark match from the MSG Raw on 9/22/97 makes the cut.

  26. WWEFan2013 says:

YES! Great way to use all that unseen WWE video library. I think they have scheduled this because of how popular the Youtube “Off the air” video was.

I also remember hearing some dark matches getting tons of praise too. Umaga/HHH dark match street fight back in 2008 was said to be the MOTN so hopefully that gets added too.

    Awesome release.

  27. Mr Hesse says:

This is a must buy in my book.
