10 WWE DVD Cover Designs Made But Never Used, Did AEW Edit The New ‘All In’ 2023 Blu-Ray?

March 3, 2024 by Daniel Bee

Recently with WWE DVDs going away the WWE Home Video UK social accounts have re-branded to WWE Home Video Tribute, and they’re posting some interesting trivia and throwbacks on there.

One post caught our eye — a look at several cover designs that were on the table for the release of “Attitude Era Vol. 3 Unreleased” on DVD and Blu-ray back in 2016.

WWE ended up going with option #2 above, with a little bit of inspiration from option #1.

Interestingly, in 2020 cover artwork was needed for the UK exclusive “Attitude Era – The Complete Collection” (Vol. 1-3 combined) which would resurrect option #4 in these cover designs. If you’re familiar with the final cover that release had, you will notice a few changes to the Superstar line-up, such as the Ultimate Warrior being replaced by Kurt Angle.

How about FIVE MORE never-before-seen covers?!

The Attitude Era reveals got us thinking about other unused WWE DVD covers over the years and had us looking through our archives here at WrestlingDVDNetwork.com.

With The Rock’s return to WWE this year and upcoming involvement in WrestleMania 40, let’s get a look at some Rock cover artwork that WWE created for his “Epic Journey” DVD and Blu-ray back when he returned to WWE to face John Cena, now over a decade ago.

This is also interesting because the designs we are showing for the first time here also suggest WWE had different options for the name of the DVD too; “The Rock: Relentless”, “The Rock: The Great One”, and just “The Rock” on its own.

You might remember the original title we heard running WDN was “The Epic Adventure of…” and this changed to “The Epic Journey of…” shortly after being scheduled.

And with “The Icon” Sting set to retire from wrestling at AEW Revolution 2024, here’s a look at two unused covers Sting had back when WWE made his “Into The Light” DVD/Blu-ray documentary set.

Last year we showed some other unused cover artwork for the likes of: “Greatest Rivalries: Shawn Michaels vs. Bret Hart” (2011), “The Attitude Era” (the first installment in 2012), “The Shield: Justice for All” (2018), and a few others! If you’d like a peek at those too look here or click below.

Speaking of AEW, we reported last month that the company will keep up its Home Video presence but now with a switch from DVD to exclusively Blu-ray releases going forward.

First-Ever AEW Blu-Ray Announced – ‘All Releases on Blu-Ray Only Moving Forward’

All In 2023 and All Out 2023 were both recently released on Blu-ray format. Pictured above and below is the final product for All In 2023 on Blu-ray, with thanks to Mark D.

The All In event from Wembley Stadium featured some licensed music on the night – among the tracks were “Seek & Destroy” by Metallica for Sting and Darby Allin’s entrance music, and “We Will Rock You” by Queen for Saraya. We’re pleased to report all of this music looks to be left intact on the Blu-ray and not dubbed over.

Also noteworthy is the “real glass, cry me a river!” line by Jack Perry on pre-show is still intact too.

All In has the “Countdown to” show included in the contents, not listed on the packaging.

AEW DVDs are basically indie releases and not distributed in proper stores etc. so in theory I guess music rights isn’t a problem as these are just sold via their website directlv (although not to me as there’s no way I’m paying upwards of £25 per DVD from WrestlingStore – it’s ridiculous and the line with a hobby has to be drawn somewhere).

That being said however, why did ROH cut out all of their music as their DVDs were produced in the same way, barring the few KOCH label compilation releases which showed up in stores?

    • DDT says:

I agreed with you before I did nt really collect AEW but now i changed my mind as the blu ray quality makes them not as bad value and also i no longer have wwe dvds to spend my money on. i know the real thing i need to do is to work on my wwe tna and roh collection before all the old dvds dissapear. But yeah i just hope someone proper picks up the AEW license so that we can buy them in HMV at normal price…

    • whut says:

My assumptions: the rights issue is not as clear-cut as you assume it to be.

  2. RDC says:

The missing original ring entrance music for WCCW is a massive hole — since the promotion perfectly merged pro wrestling w/ pop culture.
