Another year is coming to an end, and some would argue that 2012 has been a fantastic year for WWE DVD releases (of course there are those who will argue vehemently against that – you know who you are!).
So here at WWEDVDNews.com we bring you the second annual definitive wrestling DVD poll.
We hope you can all spare a few minutes to vote and make your voice heard. Our poll will close on January 4, 2013 and soon after we will bring you the full results.
Sorry our 2012 Wrestling DVD Poll has now closed.
Check back soon for the results.
Note: The poll may not display properly on the mobile view of WWEDVDNews, if so please click here or access this page via your computer for the best experience.
They should do this poll at the end of the year every year!
Great poll, well put together, made me think and had to scratch my head on more than a few of these questions. It was fun also. Good job guys, well done!
One criticism I have concerning this website is the focus on the 1995-present wwf era. There really isn’t any attention paid to the 1980s-1994 period and not much given to any WCW with the exception to nwo stuff. I understand this is a website based in Europe with mostly European readers, but in North America the 1980s era runs neck and neck with the wwf attitude era/nitro period, so hopefully we’ll start to see that reflected on this website in 2013.
Feedback is greatly appriciated, in what ways could we focus more on the 80s and early 90s? While the Attitude/NWO were ‘my eras’ I am interested in all wrestling promotions from the 60s onwards. Generally we can only focus on the periods where the current DVD news is focused, and recently that has been the 90s boom period.
Also our readership is really not limited to Europe we try and cater for wrestling fans from all over the globe.
I’m all about criticism but really, does this have any merit? Every blu ray/ DVD that has been released by wwe since 2010 has been covered promptly. I hope you understand we only give news on wwe dvd releases, that’s our purpose. We will not randomly start talking about non DVD related subjects. If you want DVDs on these eras feel free to tweet wwe. Rest assure any project that gets released will be covered as much as any other. Also I’m sure you are aware we at times cover the questioned eras in our ‘Fantasy Concept’ section. We can’t really do much more than that. Also the site has a big following in the US and just because we are based in the UK holds no factor to your question. Thanks for the feedback
Make no mistake about it, you guys are doing an excellent job and I certainly didn’t mean to imply anything to the contrary. You’re the ultimate go-to resource for WWE DVD news.
With that said, my post was made largely due to the fantasy concepts being primarily from that era I mentioned while almost completely overlooking the 1980s to 1994 period. Outside of the War Games concept, I don’t see any that have an NWA or Jim Crockett Promotions focus, which is somewhat shocking in light of the fact that all other territories have had an official release centered on them (AWA, ECW, WCCW, WCW). Sometimes WWE needs to be reminded, and this is an outstanding way to do it. Yet, out of 22 fantasy concepts, most of which are good, I only count 4 WCW/NWA themed ones. A similar breakdown occurs when comparing pre 1994 DVD fantasy concepts to post 1995 concepts.
I love the Monday Night War era, and certainly most of the WWF’s finest moments came in that period (though their 1988 to 1993 was also awesome), but the reality is that the NWA/WCW TV footage up to and including 1994 was every bit as good with outstanding competitive match-ups featuring all of the top stars such as Flair, Austin, Steamboat, Sting, Undertaker, etc. Once you get past the slightly lesser production values, the NWA/WCW stuff holds up quite well and I’m hoping it gets noticed more.
OMG what a great poll.. Some questions we’re harder to answer like which dvd concept would you like to see or something like that don’t remember already.. Damn most of the concept you guys did just look incredible to me, the Triple H one, Austin Rock rivalry, IYH concept woww. You guys do a tromendous job and keep going like that!!! \m/ \m/
The Undertakers documentary was one of my highlights, also it was fun to watch all his mania matches on 1 set!
for me rock cena blu ray has by far the best set of extras. easy vote that one
I voted Attitude Era for best cover and CM Punk for DVD of the year. I hope WWE can release superstar collections/match compilations for past stars and divas like Rikishi, Edge & Christian, Lita, Trish, Jesse Vantura, Goldberg, Kane, Eddie Guerrero, and Undertaker without repeating matches that are in other DVDs, which is why I didn’t buy the superstar collections yet. I also hope they put in a lot of good promos as well, aside from matches.
I voted for attitude era for worst cover also. no way out 2012 no.2 in worst cover ever list
The Last of McGuinness
Attitude Era had the best cover art but nWo closed second, I want the Top 20 Divas next year, Chyna is 1 for me then Sable as 2, Miss Elizabeth as 3, 4. Sherri Martel and 5 Trish.
Are you drunk attitude era was the worst cover
You do realize it’s a parody of The Beatles’ “Sgt. Pepper” album cover, right? They did a great job with it as far as that goes.
Punk had probably the best overall release, and the cover is perfect for him, too – right down to the WWE logo being part of the microphone and not labeled on like usual. Nice touch.
Hey Daniel will we get a “What DVD’s will you like in 2013” like last year in 2011? It seemed to work for 2012 as we got many of the high voted DVD’s in 2012.
Very good poll. 2012 was a great year for WWE DVD’s, in my opinion. I didn’t think they would release the nWo and Attitude Era sets in the same year, but they did.
Very hard when picking which DVD/Blu-ray of 2013 I’m mostly looking forward to. There is no way I can pick just one, but obviously I had to. I’m looking forward to the entire DVD release schedule of 2013, lol. Between the Best of In your House and the Mick Foley documentary, the Triple H documentary, Best of MSG, Best of Nitro Vol. 2 and the Wargames set – it’s going to be a great year ahead for WWE releases.
I was really happy to answer these questions, though I have to admit that I wasn’t as happy in answering some due to not having watched some of the ones I really wanted to see such as The Attitude Era & The 100 Raw Moments as I live in the UK and SilverVision was shut down 🙁
Therefore I only answered in accordance to the ones that I had purchased and watched.
Thanks guys for giving the “skip” option for Superstar Collections and WWE Studio releases. 🙂
Oh…and agreed with the others: Punk’s is probably going to win. I actually voted for him for the best doc and the best extras, because I liked how the TV matches included the action during the commercial breaks. Voted for WCW Clash for most anticipated, nWo for best cover, Bret Hart Dungeon for most anticipated, MSG for most anticipated unofficial, MITB anthology to replace, and WarGames Anthology to replace it with. Overall quality is what I look for. Good survey guys.
Wow. Until I started checking boxes I really hadn’t realized how many DVDs and Blu-rays I’ve gotten over the past year. 22 titles off the list, and that’s not even counting older DVDs I’ve gotten cheap when their on sale at various places this year.
That should’ve read: “DVDs I’ve gotten cheap when they’re on sale at various places this year.” I hate typos.
Punk’s gonna win most of them, hands down.
CM Punk Blu-ray 100% best release this year,
The Attitude era favourite Cover,
Most looking forward to Best of In Your House,
What i would replace, The Money in the bank Anthology with
Best of Raw Seasons 3 and 4 1995-1996 4 disc set,
What i look in documentary, Behind the scenes,
Roll on 2013 🙂
Yea, I went with Punk’s for best doc and Edge’s for best extras. Most anticipated was without question the CM Punk DVD. I can only think of maybe 10 or 15 things I’ve ever been that excited about.
If anyone picks “length” for what is most important to them about a documentary, I think I failed in my reviews.
Punk’s DVD Is definitely the best DVD of the year.Edge is a very close second
