BREAKING: First Titles for 2018 WWE DVD & Blu-Ray Schedule – ‘RAW 25’, AJ STYLES, THE SHIELD, MORE!

September 20, 2017 by Daniel Bee

REVEALED: First Plans for 2018 WWE DVDs & Blu-rays!

We told you that the first plans for WWE DVDs in 2018 were expected to be revealed imminently and less than a week later it’s time to take a look at exactly that!

The premium section of PWInsider.com has super-kicked that into action as today they let loose what WWE has slated for their Home Video schedule next year – a “Phenomenal” (no, delightful!) list of titles that showcase the present and give a nod to the past, while introducing some first-time-evers, celebrating anniversaries, and unearthing more never-before-seen unreleased footage.

Your first list of DVDs and Blu-rays that reportedly made the cut for 2018 follows immediately below. Given the time frame, please consider some of the projects to be tentative at this time. It should also be noted that the names of certain DVDs could well change prior to their release.

“The Best of RAW & SmackDown Live 2017”

— Expected, but the series is now confirmed to be back on the schedule next year.

“The Best of NXT 2017”

— NXT will join the year’s retrospective titles for the first time, following some recent speculation that WWE wanted to get NXT TakeOver specials on Home Video.

WWE 2018 Home Video Schedule - RAW 25th Anniversary DVD

“RAW 25th Anniversary”

— WWE will mark the 25th anniversary of RAW the best way we can think of, and that’s with a DVD! Could we have another 12-disc box set like we saw for the 20th anniversary?

“Best Pay-Per-View Matches 2017”

— Another staple series will return, expected to be released worldwide.

“The Shield”

— Does what would be the second Shield DVD mean there’s a reunion in the works soon?

WWE 2018 Home Video Schedule - 'Phenomenal AJ Styles' DVD

“The Phenomenal AJ Styles”

Rumored since early 2017, seemingly then confirmed this summer, the AJ DVD now looks to be a lock! Will he get the documentary treatment or a straight up match comp?

“Shawn Michaels: Unreleased”

— More unreleased content is on the way for DVD collectors and this one’s all about HBK!

And there’s more! PWInsider Elite has named additional titles that WWE currently has penciled into their 2018 schedule. We’ll confirm what those are here on WDN in just a couple of days, reporting back when we’ve done some digging on which titles are definitely coming – and when.

  1. Jose ZENO says:

How about a 3 disc Andre The Giant disc one early beginning 70’s disc 2 The glorious 80’s feuds with Young Hulk Hogan, Killer Khan, Big John Studd, Blackjack Mulligan, Ernie Ladd, and the 3rd His Heel turn fueds with Hogan, Hacksaw Duggan Jake Roberts that would be a GIANT collection.

  2. rejean jacques says:

i ‘m waiting for new Dusty Rhodes with at least 3 dics of nwa matches same goes for Ric Flair Nwa only none of the late wwe years , there’s a lot we need to see , thanks wwe universe .

  3. Jeff says:

Don’t see any titles here worth purchasing. They need to do a Rick Rude, Goldust and Mark Henry ASAP!

  4. ChrisX says:

They should rerelease some of the old HBK dvds, also Stone Cold, The Rock etc. because i‘m not buying anything with the WWF Logo blurred!

  5. WCW FOREVER says:

Another Shield dvd? What a waste.

  6. Christian Robinson says:

I loved wwe unreleased set. I watched it in about two days. I hope we get part 2. I hope Shawns jobber days from mid south will be on there

  7. josh says:

Another Shawn Michaels video set?! What for?! I have a whole list of video sets that I would like to see released. I’m not going to say what they are, I did that several times already and the WWE company isn’t listening. They don’t want to release video sets that the audience/WWE Universe wants to see, the WWE only puts out sets they THINK people want to see. If they put out another Shawn Michaels video set, unreleased or not, I’m not picking it up. I want to see sets out on other superstars/moments/programs.
The WWE unreleased 1986-1995 didn’t have shit on it. I waited and waited to get that set and there wasn’t anything on it. The commentating was taken out and some of the matches looked like amateur videos, like they were videos by audience members who just brought a video camera and recorded the match, they didn’t look very professional.

    • Rich says:

They didn’t remove the commentary , there never was any when they would film matches for later use they would record commentary later so if they never used them they didn’t put in commentary

  8. Ricardo Aguilera says:

Mark henry goldust booker t and Kane all deserve an docamentry DVD/Blu Ray

  9. RCS1988 says:

Shawn Michaels Unreleased might include his 1987 WWF tryout teaming with Jannetty against Jose Estrada & Jimmy Jack Funk.

  10. Rich says:

If they go back to the way they did the Hulk Hogan Unreleased that would be great , unreleased doesn’t have to be unseen

    • Leon Perry says:

Some of the hogan unreleased matches were already on wwe classics on demand or 24/7, whatever it was called so they weren’t exactly “unreleased”.

      • whut says:

but they were “unreleased” in the sense that they hadn’t been released on dvd before.

(and if you only count in the WWF footage of the first two discs, afaik the majority of it was never released on vhs as well)

        • Rich says:

Exactly , you can do raw matches and house show matches that have never been on dvd before and this way most matches would have commentary, and the few that don’t can have Shawn himself with maybe Jim Ross

    • Brandon vendetta says:

Agreed. The Hogan unreleased collectors series DVD was great. Unreleased doest have to be”unseen” couldn’t agree more. And it had commentary too. I’m all for more unreleased sets like that one but unfortunately I don’t think there will be any.

  11. Richard Sturtevant says:

I want another Hulk Hogan DVD set to come out and his cartoon wrestling series to be on DVD.

  12. Vintage Simon says:

Great news about the Shawn Michaels set. On the basis all of his PPV matches have been released, I’d like to see many of the following included:

Saturday Night’s Main Event – March 11, 1989 vs. The Brain Busters

Saturday Night’s Main Event – July 28, 1990 vs. Demolition

Raw – May 22, 1995 vs. King Kong Bundy

    Raw – July 17, 1995 vs. IRS

    Superstars – August 5, 1995 vs. Skip

Raw – August 14, 1995 vs. Jerry Lawler

    Superstars – April 27, 1996 vs. The 1-2-3 Kid

Raw – July 1, 1996 vs. Marty Jannetty

Raw – November 3, 1997 vs. Ken Shamrock

Raw – June 23, 2003 vs. Ric Flair & Randy Orton (MSG)

Raw – June 7, 2004 vs. Randy Orton

Raw – October 4, 2004 vs. Christian (MSG)

Raw – February 7, 2005 vs. Ric Flair (Japan)

Raw – April 18, 2005 vs. Muhammad Hassan (MSG)

Raw – January 16, 2006 vs. Kurt Angle

Raw – March 27, 2006 vs. Triple H (their final televised singles match)

    Raw – May 14, 2007 vs. Edge

Raw – January 21, 2008 vs. Mr. Kennedy

    Raw – February 23, 2009 vs. JBL

    Smackdown – March 20, 2009 vs. Kane (500th Episode)

And also anything else they may have in their vaults, such as the triple-threat dark match with Bret Hart and The Undertaker from Sep 22, 1997.

    • whut says:

Mr. Perfect against Shawn Michaels from the buildup show to WrestleMania VII would be great.

(generally speaking I would prefer more stuff that can’t be easily seen on the Network, especially considering that I assume this will be a dvd-only release)

  13. Mark Markson says:

Looking good. I’d like if they went back, and did 4 discs for the best of Raw and Smackdown. And since it is HD footage, please give us a blu-ray.

Best of NXT sounds good. Here I am also hoping for a blu-ray. I can only imagine this means the awesome match between Asuka vs Nikki Cross from July will be included.

Releasing NXT Takeover shows sounds great. Why not add an extra disc for Royal Rumble, WrestleMania, Summerslam and Survivor Series, and release them with these shows in the future? Or, do a box at the end of the year, that includes all the Takeover shows from the past year?

Bringing back the best PPV matches compilation, is only a good idea, if they do a blu-ray. Since WWE release so few PPVs on blu-ray, I will definitely be interested in such a release.

Unreleased Shawn Michaels matches is a great idea. I also voted for that. I’m sure it will feature many gems.

I love AJ Styles, but wouldn’t mind if they waited at least another year, before he gets a release. Then there are more matches to choose from.

    • whut says:

they are very likely not doing the “best ppv matches” on bluray (they haven’t in past years, why would they do so this year?).

      • Mark Markson says:

You are probably right. Still keeping my fingers crossed. 🙂 I just feels it makes some sense to do a blu-ray of that release, since it is the only way to own these matches in 1080p. But it all comes down to if WWE believe a blu-ray will sell.

  14. Jacob Tully says:

another Shawn Michaels dvd? I’d rather he not get a DVD set for another 10 years. He’s already had a dozen sets released already.

another Shield dvd? Way too soon. I’d rather see WWE Raw: The Best of 1995 & 1996 instead.

    • Mark Markson says:

If the Michaels set was full of repeats, I’d agree with you. But unreleased content is always fun.

      • Jacob Tully says:

Not if the guy has had 50 other dvd sets already.

        • Phil says:

I disagree Jacob. He’s such an amazing performer with a massive fanbase, so releasing lots of hidden gems is a fantastic idea. The DVD will be very well received, I think.

          • Indyfan says:

Damn right it will. Unreleased ( not necessarily unseen) sets are the best bang for your buck.

I’d take any unreleased set over a set with repeats. I hope we get some Rockers vs Rougeau matches on this.

          • josh says:

Well I disagree with you. I don’t think he has a massive fan base, I certainly am not one of them.

            • RabidHeat says:

You are just one person, you realise that, right? Just because you don’t like him doesn’t mean he doesn’t have a big fanbase. You seem to think you speak for the majority.

    • josh says:

I feel the same way, another shawn michaels set?! I could go the rest of my life without seeing another michaels set.

  15. RabidHeat says:

Well if it’s another 12 disc Raw box set we won’t get it in the UK I guess, since we’re not allowed anything that big! 🙁

  16. Brandon vendetta says:

I’m very surprised they are doing the Raw DVD. It will only be good if it’s an episode compilation like the last one and if it’s not totally loaded with repeats. Lord knows I have enough repeats of Raw matches. AJ Styles DVD is to soon but i get why they are doing it. Shawn Michaels Unreleased I don’t know because in the last few years the title Unreleased= No commentary. I would bet that this set will probably be the same. And The Shield reunion is obviously going to happen so thanks WWE for spoiling it.

    • josh says:

I would like to see a Monday night raw anthology, every episode of raw ever released and a Monday nitro anthology, every nitro episode ever released. Oops, there I go again requesting what I want to see released when WWE isn’t going to listen to what the universe wants to see.

      • Indyfan says:

No way should they release raw anthology sets. Just get the network. I’m a wrestling fan and would skip that shit.

      • LP1 says:

Lol You can’t be serious. Every episode of Raw ever. That’s over 1,200 episodes. We’re talking approximately 2,000 hours when you eliminate commercial time. If they fit 3 hours per disc, that’s 667 discs. Good luck with that.

  17. Foley Is Good says:

The best of Raw and SmackDown will be one I will buy. The second women’s MITB match and the Kevin Owens US title matches will probably be on it. NXT sounds good and probably AJ Styles. Like the SHIELD but it was covered adequately on the other release. No interest in Raw 25. Hopefully a Rick Rude or Goldust/Dustin Rhodes (I know it won’t happen) release are in the cards.

  18. BAS says:

Oh and how about since 2018 will be the 20th anniversary of the event, how about a championship (or whatever they’d like to call it) edition of WrestleMania 14? They did the same for WrestleMania 3 since it was the biggest event for its time, so I figured the same could be done for 14 since that was a big event for its time. 1997 might have been the year they started their transition, but 1998 was the saving grace. Plus, WrestleMania 14 was never released unblurred on DVD. The only way to watch it unblurred is on the network, Internet, or the original VHS.

    • LP1 says:

If they do something like that, I think it would be for Mania 17. That was the biggest Mania of the attitude era. And it marked the end of that era. Mania 14 wasn’t the biggest, at least as far as PPV buys go. 15 was bigger than 14. Then 16 was bigger than 15 and then 17 was the biggest. The PPV buys dropped for Mania 18 and then fell off a cliff for Mania 19.

  19. BAS says:

I mentioned a Raw 25th anniversary DVD a few days ago with the concept being an episode compilation. Could it be true?!

  20. Anonymous says:

Here’s hoping the other titles are more interesting. 2018 seems underwhelming so far.

  21. Alex Murray says:

I’ve Never been a fan of Shawn Michaels.ill have to pass on that one.The Raw 25 set sounds good though

    • SRB says:

May i ask why you are not an HBK fan? To each their own, but im very curious

      • RabidHeat says:

I’m more curious as to why everybody likes Braun Strowman, even the marks. As far as I can tell, it’s purely because he is NOT Roman Reigns. At any point in history people would have said he was sh*t.

        • SRB says:

I’m with you. WWE is aware people hate Reigns and want to see him destroyed. Having guys like Strowman do the deed elevates his status. They can make Strowman a heel all they want. Dude is a face without a doubt.

    • Alex Murray says:

Don’t get me wrong.HBK is a great wrestler but I don’t like him enough to get a set of his matches.I don’t like him cuz the way he acts and his personality.I’ve just never been a fan of his

  22. Tommy D says:

I am extremely excited that they are releasing the Best of NXT 2017 DVD. I hope that it comes out around the same time as the Best of Raw/Smackdown. 2 NXT releases in a matter of 4 months? Fantastic.

  23. Paul says:

The ‘Best Of’ sets are favourites of mine and I’m happy to see NXT get the treatment as well

Raw’s 25th Anniversary deserves some sort of recognition but they are going to have to get really creative. I’ll scream if I see Austin’s Beer Truck segment again!

Another Shield release feels too soon even if a full blown reunion goes ahead

An AJ release feels too soon as well although a ‘finally made it to WWE’ documentary might be interesting. An AJ release will be a lot more interesting once WWE get their hands on the TNA library

Who could complain about unreleased Shawn Michaels? The match listing for this one will be very interesting reading

    • RabidHeat says:

They can’t hold on until they own the TNA library in case that never happens. People keep saying TNA / GFW will close but it never seems to happen, so WWE aren’t gonna wait anothe decade to release an AJ set. I realise you weren’t saying that, but just to make the point.

  24. Eric says:

It’s too soon for a Styles DVD. However, I am buying it anyway. I hope they put a few unreleased matches on it to make it worth the purchase. I know his MSG US title win will be on it, but I want more. I want a blu ray, too. I am all over the HBO Unreleased, but I want it to cover more than the mid 90’s. A lot of that has been released lately. I want an Undertaker retrospective and I want it to be 4 disc and 4 blu rays. I want matches from his entire career and don’t skip the American Badass era either.

  25. huh says:

HBK Unreleased i’m in! Hoping for the Ultimate Warrior as well.

  26. Jeff Copeland says:

hbk dvd i am all for, styles eh might be to soon, shield ehh raw set ehh

  27. SRB says:

“The Best of NXT 2017” – My only issue here is that this only covers one year. While I completely realize two other NXT sets have basically happened, those years only received random matches while 2017 is being covered extensively.

“The Shield” – Not sure about this one. With them not being together any longer, I really think they were covered quite well in their first release. This one seems unnecessary.

“The Phenomenal AJ Styles” – Hoping for a documentary. However, not the 48 minute version WWE has been producing as of late. AJ has had plenty of great matches so far in his career, so this one makes sense.

“Shawn Michaels: Unreleased” – The best and most meaningful release on the list without a doubt.

“RAW 25th Anniversary” – Really depends how this is formatted. Personally, I was not a fan of the 20th box set. Picking random episodes seemed odd. However, I’m aware the “best moments” format is stale.
